Did We Stutter, DK Bunny Butcher?

Written by PETA | December 9, 2010

Donna Karan knows about the suffering that goes into each and every fur-trimmed coat, hat, and bag that contains the skins of dead rabbits (we know—we showed her ourselves). You might think that a “Zen, revolutionary designer” such as DK would take a stand and permanently remove fur from her collections, but you’d be wrong. Check out our latest friendly reminder to her that she has strayed from “the path”:

This comes after the recent flooding of Karan’s DKNY Facebook page earlier last week.

DK needs to take a cue from cruelty-free fashion friends Stella McCartney, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Liz Claiborne, who have chosen to leave fur where it belongs—on the bunnies! Please let her know what you think too!

Dear Donna, we take regular yoga classes at yoga shanti and I attend you urban zen . As a yogini and a student of Rodneiy Yee I am ashamed for you. It is not cool and it is not what yoga is all about and I don’t think that our yoga teachers approve or appreciate your conduct. Maybe if I posted adds in and around the studio about your cruelty to animals or if I approached you in person in public in the middle of yoga practice you might be willing to reconsider. If humiliating you in public results in putting an end to your barbaric action I would more than gladly do it although out of respect for you I kept a polite distance all these years. I hope you will not push me in to losing respect for you which will result in an unpleasant public display. We are after all yogis and that is not what yoga is all about. NAMASTE.

    HYPOCRITE!

  • dawn says:

Shame on you Donna Karan (DKNY) !

  • Cassandra says:

As a child, I had a debilitating stutter (got over it) and I am not offended. Doubt anyone else is, either. No worries. DK is definately a hypocrit for going back on her word. She is trying to over-compensate by portraying herself as socially conscious. I was especailly disgusted (and said so) that she recently tried to create publicity for herself by “supporting” singer Jimmy Wayne’s campaign for foster kids. I don’t know what she did besides set him up in a fancy hotel on the beach. I hope not many ppl fell for her compassionate act. Anyone who can watch how animals are killed for fur & not care is someone I can’t understand.

  • carolynne heath says:

dkny?????>??? dead karma now you…. thats what is really stands for……. shame on you Ms Karan… so smart yet so stupid….. surely you are wealthy enuff now without sacrificing bunnies to enrich your stock portfolio… evn during the gfc.

  • AnimalsAreNotOurs says:

Hey DK, whatta you say? How many animals have you killed today???

  • Jen says:

Doesn’t she have enough money?!?? When will these greedy, consumerist driven, so-called designers actually look outside of the box for once and show the public something new…how long do we have to bare witness to continuous massacre just to line the pockets of these horrible people.

  • Jessincali says:

I think anyone using animals carcasses as a form of clothing/accessories is disgusting and shameful! How is this still allowed?

  • Firefly says:

@ Tara, I myself have a speech impediment but did not find that phrase offensive. Maybe some do, maybe some don’t. I laugh at myself when I stutter or can’t pronounce a word correctly, it’s part of who I am and I’m not ashamed of it.

  • Aisha Faluz says:

What about butchering animals in the name of Islam?  Why do you never mention the obscenely cruel method of Halal?  A goat’s throat is slit and he’s left to slowly bleed to death.

  • Janeen says:

May all the suffering you have inflicted on the innocent and voiceless animals find you upon your deathbed!! .. YES! .. What you sew you will finally reap! Lastly may you return to this earth on four legs to relive the suffering that you inflicted upon these poor animals .. & may you experience all the suffering & pain that you put them through .. May you then in the end have learned your great spiritual lesson!!!!!!!!

  • sabita patwardhan says:

Totally disgusting. Hope these kinds of greedy people and those who wear their creations knowing what’s happened to the animals, one day get punished.

  • Liz says:

She is just pathetic. How can you claim to be “new age”, in to spirituality and yoga and support killing animals for vanity??

  • anna says:

    omg i now H.A.T.E her

  • animalslover says:

killing as such helpless creature is wrong!

  • David ahrvey says:

in australia we have thousands of rabbits and they kill hundreds of plants and animals through eating the plants and taking away the food source which then hurts everything in the eco system am i evil if i try to gently kill a rabbit yes she is doing it for profit but face it the world is going to keep turning and i know im going to get flamed for this but people seriously just realise not everyone is a bad guy

  • Soraya says:

It’s a shame that someone who has been in the industry for this long would ignore the cries of the poor animals that are slaughtered just to dress someone. Are there not enought textile choices that fur would not be needed. Unless you are an Eskimo their is no excuse for this.

  • Tiffany says:

I don’t like wearing furs and animal products, but I got a birthday present: a very stylish hat– made out of wool. My question is this: would wearing a hat made out of 100% wool bad? They don’t kill sheep to get the wool, and actually shave them for summer. What do you think?

  • Taylor says:

if your so cruel and all you care about is money, you should be damned to hell. no living thing, animal/human/, /male/female, deserves to be treated this inhumanly.

  • suzan1 says:

These creatures are the Lords Creation, His judiment will fall apon people who do not repend and stop this inhumane treatment upon animals PRAY THE LORD WILL BLESS PETA AND PUNISH THESE OFFENDERS OF ANIMALS

  • Lilla says:

How disgusting. She should be using her power to help stop cruelty and not be the one doing the crime. People like that disgust me, she only cares about how much she makes. She could very well come up with designs that don;t involve killing innocent animals.

  • nancy says:

I don’t think money turns people into idiots as Gala said. I think money gives people more opportunity to express who they are. If a compassionate person had a lot of money they would have more opportunity to help animals. Please don’t use money as an excuse for why someone promotes animal cruelty. It’s not the reason.

  • Betty says:

This so called designer is a major hypocrite! she says one thing and does the other!. Her so called “fashion” could look one hundred times better without real bunny fur. It could look great with fake fur. Why Kill innocent animals just to make a few dollars! and most of those people who buy her clothes are only celebrities! Sorry DK me and you are done!!!!!!

  • Gala says:

Money turns people into idiots. Some are so blinded by their greed and filthy lifestyle that they are blind to the suffering and death of those around them. It’s hard to get someone like her to remove the blinders.

  • judy says:

Criminals, killing innocent creatures for profit.Bastard bitch

  • Kristin says:

No.  “Did we stutter?” is not offensive to people with speech impediments, or shouldn’t be.  Stuttering may cause a person to not understand you.  They are saying we all know she hears our message loud and clear.  I think a person with a speech problem would know that having a speech problem may make a person difficult to hear correctly.  Thats not offense.

  • Katie says:

Tara, people who don’t have speech/language disabilities can also physically stutter. Everyone stutters when unsure about what they are going to say. And PETA is clearly saying in this blog title that we are very sure about our message. Let’s not get distracted here; the living creatures most offended are definitely the ones skinned alive for Donna Karan’s designs!

  • florina says:

Come on , how stupid she can be !!! How much money does she want?

  • N Alarcon says:

She can keep her “blood” money and her “blood” fame made with the pain and mutilation of animals.

  • Tara says:

The use of the phrase “did we stutter” is offensive to many people who actually have a speech/language disability.

  • Jeehyong Kim says:

    Please stop skinning helpless animals

  • MICHELLE says:

HEY CAN YOU THINK ALITTLE BIT ON OUR LIVING CREATURES AND DONT BE PART OF SUCH A CRIME …..KARMA IS SUCH A GOOD THING AND SOME DAY IT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU..

  • nancy says:

I can’t help but find her a revolting person. Those are my true feelings.

  • Rachel says:

this is just sad. i live in the area inwhich the protest is taking place, and i will deffinitly be attending. i just dont even know what to say about this sick, sad woman. i hope she reliezes that taking the lives of other living breathing things is not “fashionable”.
