South Africans Have Big Hang-Ups

Written by PETA | August 16, 2010

We are not alone. No, I’m not talking about the existence of aliens. I’m referring to the existence of other passionate anti-fur advocates such as the South African organization Fur Free. The proof of this group’s passion is in this winning poster from its recent anti-fur poster competition.

Fur Free Poster

It’s a powerful poster that’s sure to compel people to hang up nasty old fur habits and pledge to purge their closets of animal pelts forever.

Saying that you love animals and eating them is like saying that you love children but only protecting your own. YOU are not a true carnivore whereas a hawk is a true carnivore. A true carnivore will die if they don’t eat what they are designed to eat. You can be perfectly healthy in fact healthier if you do not eat animal products. Why do you only see the torture of animals for fur but not the fact that billions more animals are killed and are treated in much more horrific ways than those for fur? You are correct that many people are not vegan who are supporters of PETA any organization is going to accept your support even if you don’t agree with them completely. PETA wouldn’t be as successful as they are if they only accepted support from those who agree with them entirely. However PETA does promote veganism. So I would suggest to you that you think about the choices that you are making while blinding yourself to the torture and murder of other animals animals that are deserving of life and respect as much as those who are raised for fur. I’m not the one who is being selfrighteous. I’m only pointing out the contradictions in your choices. Dairy cows and egg layers are the most tortured animals on the planet. If your choices are to eliminate or at least alleviate animal suffering then dairy and eggs will be the first that you give up. This is just the facts. With all due respect…… Tina says “You do NOT have to be a Vegan to love animals or the environment anymore than a hawk that kills a rabbit to eat is…it is nature…. I DO love animals I DO love and respect our environment I DO eat meat and dairy but I DON’T partronize companies tht kill for fashion. MANY people who support PETA also are not Vegan. Think before you feel the need to be selfrighteous and insult us all!!!!”

Each poster is special in its own way and says what it needs to say. I would say ‘bloody gorgeous’ ‘to die for’ and ‘splashing out on fashion’ caught my eye the most and I also found ‘Fox and the Lady’ quite unique and definitely to the point. I am vegan love all animals therefore I have no favorites practice my compassion and empathy for all! I recently joined ‘Fur Free SA’ and have been chatting to Anneke and am so glad I did. You guys are wonderful and I thank you for all you have done and continue to do. Greetings from Namibia and call on me when you need me…. next protest for sure!!!!!

Tina don’t feel bad I’m not entirely vegan either. I guess one could call me an extremely selective omnivore for example when I am at a restraunt with no vegetarian or vegan options and the salads are just dinner size and consist only of lettuce I just order and eat the side dishes and either eat a bite or two of the meat or just leave it. When husband wants meat with dinner I give him most of it to avoid an argument. But believe me when an alternative such as boca burgers are available that’s what I eat. I have already decided my husband and I are having Thanksgiving dinner at home this year and we are eating Tofurky.

You do NOT have to be a Vegan to love animals or the environment anymore than a hawk that kills a rabbit to eat is…it is nature. I love this organization because it let’s me know what companies treat and kill these animals in tortureous inhumane ways. I will not support this and buy their products. I am an animal rescuer a wildlife rehabber and have 2 homeless dogs that are part of my family. I DO love animals I DO love and respect our environment I DO eat meat and dairy but I DON’T partronize companies tht kill for fashion. MANY people who support PETA also are not Vegan. I have 3 favorites “Fur Is Rotten Best Stick To Cotton” “A Lady And A Fox” and “You Laaik?” Humans have in fact been killed for their skin. It was a common Nazi practice. The wife of the commandant of Buchenwald used tattooed human skin to make decorative household items and in many other camps it was common practice to use the skin of victims to make lampshades and bind books.

AMAZING!! I love them all!! But I especially love “to die for?” I absolutely destest anyone who wears fur I pray for a ban on the fur trade every day!

HI I am a Fur Free Member in South Africa and do agree that the organisers had done one fantastic job again with these posters! We are so against fur and hope to unite the world against fur!

  • Julie van Niekerk says:

Definately “This is not their natural habitat”. Animals give up their fur for humans and now have to give up their habitat too for humans. This poster has a dual message.

  • Louise Odams says:

FurFree are just the best and their ads are brilliant. I love the “You laaik” Furfree do excellent work!

  • Carolyn says:

FurFree doesn’t make you crueltyfree. It’s like refusing to buy ivory to save elephants while eating a fish an egg or dairy. There is no pure land but if you ‘ain’t’ VEGAN you don’t love animals and you ‘ain’t’ an environmentalist and you ‘ain’t’ a conservationist just think of all the wildlife that is killed to protect those cows that are tortured for the cream in your coffee. You ‘ain’t’ even a humanitarian just think of all the humans that are starving because you decide that you just can’t give up that ??….HumaneMyth.org
