Slumber-Party Hen Killers Caught

Written by PETA | September 6, 2011

Ten girls in South Africa are facing cruelty charges after PETA alerted officials there to a disturbing YouTube video in which a group of girls tossed and kicked a hen to death. Whoever posted the video on YouTube introduced the clip by writing, “Well basically… um… this is what we do at sleepovers at 6 am as you can see with the pajamas :) … and the chicken did die )-o and please no animal cruelty lectures!!!.”

We’re relieved that suspects have been identified and charges filed against two of them after PETA raised the alarm. Psychiatrists, criminal profilers, and law-enforcement officials have repeatedly documented that kids who abuse animals for kicks are often violent toward humans too. If you know of anyone who mistreats animals, please notify authorities right away—for everyone’s safety.

I’m hoping that you don’t eat meat Virginia. Most Christians will point to the Bible as their excuse for eating meat, so your use of it in your comment is suspect.

  • Virginia Schmidt says:

Regardless of who or what we are, no one has the right to abuse, torture or mistreat any animal. Read you bible, these animals were not put on earth for us to abuse. There should be harsher laws to prosecute anyone who abuses animals. These are sick people!

I hope the girls and parents get punished to the full extent of the law. Where were the parents in all of this? Never around, huh? Majority of parents really need to start doing their job for once. If you have kids, take responsibility.

  • Brenda says:

Where were the parents when the girls were doing this – was there no parental supervision? Do the parents condone this sort of behavior in the first place?

Glad I never saw the video. I agree with Helen. What kind of sick world do we live in, when this passes for “fun”. I am always amazed at the depths human beings sink to, in inflicting pain and cruelty, leaves me speechless.

  • Helen says:

What are we teaching our children The adults must be stopped in letting kids harm poor animals!!

  • brandie says:

How horrible of them. People usually think girls are more compassionate. Not in this case! I hope they are punished. People can be so cruel & ignorant.

Sometimes I wish that I wasnt human -I cant believe what some of us are capable of doing what has happened to mankind!!!??? Sorry to that poor chicken on behalf of all the good humans that do care!!

  • Peter says:

I am not even able to look at the video, because I could not go to sleep afterwards. The human ego is sick and humanity has a tremendous debt to the realm of the animals. My heart bleeds.

  • VeganStudent says:

Everyone who eats eggs and takes part in genocide of billions of male chicks should also be criminally prosecuted. If you pay someone to do the cruelty for you, you are still just as responsible!

  • Ketan says:

This is the state of current generation,…and all parents are responsible for it. If you really ask the girls’ mom,..they will be “ok” with this – at best they’ll scold them a bit.

  • Cindy says:

This is disgusting and as I have said befor it should b an eye for an eye in any cruelty case period my heart just breaks I still can’t get the image of the cow that was pregnant and sent to the slaughter house and to see the men pull The baby out and cut it’s neck sickened me all while they were laughing and now we have the slaughter of baby wolves in Montana this whole world has gone mad pure insanity I guess this Is how folks get there kicks to fight against animals that can’t defend themselves hang them all from the highest tree naked and beaten

Frankly, this news is quite upsetting. The activities committed by these girls shows that they have nothing better to do with their time. Those poor chickens’ lives were wasted for nothing. What those girls need are positive role models in there lives, and they should invest their time and talent in other things . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=81mnQ99u5h0&feature=related

Glad I never came across that video on youtube.

Their worried about lectures, they ought to be worried about their ability to lack empathy. How disgusting, I hope they get more than community service.

P.S.S. I don’t know if you want to post this but my brother did a very similar thing to a bird I had as a young teen. (I didn’t know how inhumane it was to buy a bird from a pet store.) I asked my mother for help stopping him but she wouldn’t. If I had known this was against the law I could have called Animal Control myself. The bird was then given away and died shortly after. Btw-I have nothing to do with either my brother or mother anymore for various reasons (and this behavior toward animals is enough in itself) and I regret not knowing how to protect animals that were in the house with them when I was growing up.

There are many cruel and sadistic vids on Youtube that have been posted to me on Facebook. They have given me nightmares! I reported them to Facebook but I would much prefere that the perpetrators are taken to task over it than just the vid removed. I saw some awful things done to dogs by louts who laughed all the time. It sickened me and disturbed me.Thing is when I clicked on the link I hadn’t realised it was that kind of vid till too late. I still feel disturbed till this day.

  • Andrea says:

As long as there is legal animal cruelty (on farms, slaughterhouses, puppy mills, etc.), it will be hard to ever seriously punish people like this. Is what these girls did worse than crowding hens in a coop full of excrement, cutting off their beeks, and eventually slaughtering them after a short miserable life? Animal cruelty will never be taken seriously as long as it is legal to slaughter animals. These girls will get a few hours of community service and have it erased from their records when they’re 18.

makes me ashamed to be a South African.

  • Lisa says:

    Good job PETA

  • maggie hooks says:

This was cruel and deliberate. They should be charged and ordered to receive professional help. How sick. What will they do later in life. Kill their children?

  • kathy says:

P.S. My previous post was sarcasm. As always, thank you PETA!

  • kathy says:

“and please no animal cruelty lectures!!!.” So I hope they’re happy they’re getting criminal prosecution instead of a lecture.
