Sicko Throws Stolen Dog From Car, Faces Felony Charges

This past June, a Maryland man, David Beers, who sought revenge against a couple who had asked him to leave their property, admitted that after leaving the couple’s yard in a huff, he later returned and snatched their 18-month-old dog, Zoey. Beers drove off with Zoey and then hurled the four-pound dog out of the passenger side window of his car and over the side of a bridge. Her tiny body was never found.

When we first heard about the story, we wrote to the prosecutor and pushed for vigorous prosecution of Beers. We also asked that Beers be required to undergo a psychological evaluation and receive counseling and also be prohibited from having animals.

Now Beers is headed to court and faces a felony aggravated cruelty-to-animals charge, which could mean three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Zoey’s death is a reminder of the dangers that await dogs who are tethered outside or are allowed to roam unsupervised. Please, don’t ever take chances with your pooch’s well-being—and always take a moment to educate others who might not know any better.

  • LA says:

This scumbag only got four months for killing the dog. He was out, returned to prison for terrorizing his ex-wife and children, and is out again. Now, he owns a dog. How is that possible?

  • Pam Vaughan says:

I hope he gets the maximum sentence and that inmates torture this guy in jail through his whole sentence. That is so horrible and look how cute that poor little dog was. It made me cry reading this story. I have a big loving Australian Shepherd who would not harm anyone for any reason. I have a fenced in yard but I always go outside with him when he goes just to be on the safe side. I am always afraid someone will leave the gate open or that someone will steal him or he’ll get out somehow. I would absolutely loose it if something happened to my dog. My heart goes out to the family.

  • Lulu says:

Ryan “A dog’s life is not as valuable as a human…”? Um you’re on an animal rights web site. Did you get lost on the ol’ “information superhighway?” Or are you just popping in to spread some of your infinite wisdom? Note sarcasm If so it’s not needed here. TY anyway…

  • Ryan says:

It’s amazing to me how many people post i would do such and such to that man and then say he is a sicko for wanting to have done that to the dog. A dog’s life is not as valuable as a human so you are worse than he is. An eye for an eye leaves the world blind.

  • pomomarx says:

I wish my dogs every once in a while had some fencedspace where they could happily “roam unsupervised” for a short time.I don’t think the possibility of some whacko murdering them would make me an irresponsible owner but I guess I could keep an eye out for killers.

That story just made me break out into tears!! my family would be devistated if something like that would ever happen to our family shitzu’s!! I am feeling a overwhelming amount of sadness for Zoey’s family!! I am so sorry for your lose! I hate all of the sick sadistic humans who do such cruel things!!!

  • sandra says:

This is terrible. It is sadbut everyday is easier for me to believe that there is a lot of people in this world capable to do such a cruel things with animals. This is one of the hundreds of stories that I’ve heard of and that I cry for.I wish I could make those people to pay for it the same way and see how it feels.

  • Jamie says:

Oh my god!!!! This guy is disgusting ! He should be thrown out of the window ! This guy deserves all the jail time he gets and then some. Look at that innocent face ! RIP Zoey….your murderer will get his dues ! What goes around comes around…wait your turn. We are ALL animals voices ! They depend on us to live happy healthy and loving lives!

  • Hermenegildo Nunez says:

He should not go to jail. Rather he needs to spend his miserable life in a mental institution. He is a crazy and dangerous man. Disgusting…

  • aleksandra wadas says:

This “man” is simply a waste of skin and space. I wish I could throw him out a moving car window and then run him over a few times

  • Diana says:

I think its important that members of justice remember that when people commit hideous acts of violence against animals their likely next target will be a person or child not that one or the other isn’t any more horrible to victimize but there is serious mental issues with a person operating at this frequency mentally.

  • ghazal says:

I hope this S.O.B gets just what he deserves. If that were my dog the police would be his last worry paybacks a …. you get my point. R.I.P to Zoey!!! When will this end? People please bring your animals inside!!

  • Tammy says:

Look at that face! What a very sad story. I was hoping to hear the little dog was found and is now well and happy again. How awful! I’d love to kick this guy’s ass!

  • Chuck Piorkowski says:

The animal cruelty laws have got to be made more strict! People that do harm to any animal need to face more jail time fines and have less rightsNo Hunting Fishing licenceNot be able to own any animals

  • Jackie says:

Interesting. It’d be considered murder if he did the same thing to a family’s just as defenseless baby.

  • simara delilah rose says:

so true about the reminder warning and also thank you to you to PETA for posting in your lifestyle about the dangers of out door cats when ever I see one I think about alllllll the dangers they are forced to seeing a 3 year old wonder through the streets unaccompanied…

  • cinthya says:

i cant believe a person would do such a thing like that that man deserves to spend more time in jail and should never be allowed near animals or have some of his one ppl like that make me sick and its scary because theres othere ppl that might be hurting the animals in the streets but have not been put in there place because ppl dont complain im glad the cought this man and i hope that this doesnt happen agian

  • Celine says:

That is disgusting and horrible. Who would do that to such a cute not to mention completely innocent living being?

  • Brien Comerford says:

So many malevolent and diabolical human being traumatizing and killing innocent dogs and other sentient creatures. In this case the vicious malcontent also caused emotional harm to the dogs guardians. Another devil in human form.

  • Ashleigh erbr says:

For those whos dogs are there children will understand that this is muder to a family member and those who muder shoul be tried that way or there family members should be thrown off a bridge

  • Re. Meg Schramm says:

Another fine example of a coward who is not in control of his emotions or his actions. Time to take him off the streets and put him with others who have the same problem. This is also a fine example of why even though I like small dogs I chose a dog who has lots of teeth a loud bark a truly menacing growl and the ability to defend himself and his family if need be.

  • Sandra Newell says:

I can’t understand why people think they can use any being to cast their revenege against something or someone else. How was a 4lb. puppy going to make him feel better? He should have a mental assessment as well as jail time. I can’t imagine the fear the puppy felt.

  • Chris Adams says:

Of all the abuse that goes on against animals this kind of thing rankles me the most. I hope he gets three years in jail and then I am going to pray hard that one of his fellow inmates kills him. I mean that. He should never get out!!!
