Sex and the City Movie

Written by PETA | November 7, 2007

Sex and the City. People either love it or hate it. And since the series has ended, there has been no shortage of drama between the show’s loyal fans and its detractors, and also between the actors themselves. But believe it or not, jumping into that fray isn’t the point of this post.

The movie version of Sex is filming right now, and this picture is making its way all over the Internet. Apparently, there is a scene in the movie where people who call themselves PETA tell Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall’s character) what they think of her choice of outerwear, as they throw paint on her. Here’s the photo that’s been doing the rounds of the Sex and the City fansites today, so you can judge for yourselves:

And for the record, PETA doesn’t throw paint on fur wearers. What we suggest is giving them an earful while handing them one of these nifty anti-fur business cards, or maybe encouraging them to display one of these wonderful little warning labels:

I’ve been watching old SATC episodes and it didn’t occur to me back then that there is fur in nearly every episode. I am so angry! Hopefully they have realised now that fur is cruel.

  • James says:

Where can I get one of those stickers from? I need one pronto to stick on my silver fox

  • Jen says:

Real fur or not once that scene came on i could have cared less about watching the rest of the movie. It was ignorant. If anything good came out of it it would spark interest to a viewer who might want to visit the PETA site and would find out who we really are and what we do. The world needs to know we aren’t crazy!

  • tjep says:

I was watching with my husband when it just came out on video adn was sort of enjoying the movie not too much though because the movie itself is pretty lame and after that scene made fur protesters look like wackjobs it ruined the rest of it for me and I couldn’t even focus on the storyline.

  • froggy says:

sjp and kim cattrall do not wear real fur in real life

  • B. Kramer says:

I think it’s silly to ruin a perfectly lovely fur coat. Wouldn’t it be better to prevent their production than ruin ones that have already been produced? Such a waste.

  • Cheryl Williams says:

I just saw the trailer for the movie looked all over the internet for an avenue to complain to In Line Cinema or HBO and found none. I will not be seeing this movie. I am sickened that these stars can make light of the cruelty of fur. C. Williams

  • Tanner says:

I think peta should be outraged by this… it makes a mockery of the antifur campaign. the ruining of a fur coat would make them go and buy another one.

  • karsen says:

I think that PETA is bogus for throwing paint on people fur!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • melissa says:

I seem to remember when Pink was getting an award from PETA she mentioned that we throw paint on people. I believe its a general misconception to throw PETA followers in with that group. You have to admit though that it does get into the headlines and have people thinking about it. Once that happens people talk about it. Maybe just one person will change their view on fur or who knows will even start being a vegetarian. It might actually be worth it just to get the message out there to that one person cause who knows how many others that one will touch.

  • Felicity Brach says:

The coat probably is not animal fur. And Antoinette I loved how you stood up to your teacher. And I love all you PETA animal supporters. Felicity

  • Friend of animals says:

I LOVE the faux furs this company sells fabulousfurs.com They are so gorgeous but even if I could afford to buy a coat I’d feel like I’d need to wear a sign that said “FAUX” !!! I’m a peta supporter and a vegan but I’d still feel guilty wearing fauxfur. GO PETA

  • kaitlyn says:

im sure people wouldn’t be stupid enough to think PETA would acutally throw paint of peoples’ fur. they only did that because it would be FUNNY. damn PETA people get so worked up about things.

  • EA says:

Wait until we have actually seen the movie and then pass judgement who knows the storyline may end up condemning the fur industry.

  • lisa gass says:

I have mixed views about this scene. On the one hand it is not correct information as PETA do not do vandalism however I feel that it does highlight a fact that wearing fur will make you a target for hot debates and it raises the issues again in the public eye that it is a humanistic faux pas.

  • Jazmine says:

Well I never liked the show anyway. But why the hell is she wearing fur! Only ugly peoaple wear fur! GO PETA!

  • Jessica says:

Isn’t using a real organization’s name in reference to actions they don’t do or condone some form of illegal?

  • me says:

i don’t get this. what’s wrong about the paint? do you consider the fur coat to be somebody’s property?because the way i see it it is only property of the animal bearing it on hisher skin.

  • Melissa says:

How do you know if they’re wearing real fur or not? I wouldn’t judge them unless you knew for sure it was real.

  • Colleen says:

I hate how PETA supporters get a bad name by a few nutty individuals that do go out and act like “terrorist” as I have heard them been called I really think that the PETA people who do this are detremental to the message and what peta is really trying to do This means you Lacey from Rock of Love!!!! It’s hard to be taken seriously when the most noteable news of PETA is when the nutsjobs are acting up again.

  • Tamara says:

I dunno…I like to think that if John Lennon were alive today he would have gotten rid of all the fur coats. That happened probably prePETA or very early PETA and alot of people just didn’t realize. PETA has made alot of people aware of these issues. Then the people can choose or not choose. Of course we want everyone to choose the compassionate way. And if they don’t PETA keeps making their point and educating. I’m not making excuses. But I like to think once it was pointed out to him that fur was cruel and unnecessary that he would have done something about it.

  • Tamara says:

I didn’t know any of this…as a huge fan of SATC I am very disappointed. I don’t like the “paint thrower” image too much. I have had discussions about animals with alot of shelter workers rescue people and my birds’ vet tech. And they all give me a similar line. “As long it’s not one of those crazy PETA people”. I then point out to them that I am one of those “crazy PETA people”. I always love the look on their face. LOL I don’t know what they expect a “crazy PETA person” to look like but evidently I don’t look like one and they are shocked. LOL I explain why PETA does its’ stunts. It’s to get people’s attention and THINK. I also explain briefly about pet store selling small animals incl. birds since that’s pretty much my “cause” or whatever I always like the looks I get when I wear my PETA tshirt. And I wear it alot at least I have been lately. It’s just comfy. I think people think I’m gonna jump on them or start yelling at them about animals or something. But I don’t think this scene in the movie is going to help…or maybe it will. Maybe we can let people know we are “crazy PETA people” and we really don’t throw paint etc. The problem with that is it’s only gonna work for those “crazy PETA people” who get out there and have a chance to dispel the image.

Where are the “I’m an Asshole I Wear Leather” labels? Or do we like the near gender specificity of fur? Shades of Virginia Woolf’s “The Plumage Bill” anyone?

  • Genni says:

It’s just a movie and I’m sure they are nothing like the characters they play.

  • Niranjan says:

If anyone get the video of activists throwing paint post em! It’s nice PETA gets more media attention. Its the only way to get our msg across.

  • vegan4animals says:

I’ll bet with PETA’s lawyers on this they will have to drop this scene or drop out PETA’s name which is defamation of character. I’m sure the show’s writers thought it was a witty scene but PETA does not throw red paint PETA uses stickers and cards. Honestly I think it’s great that someone would throw fake blood on fur coats but in reality this just doesn’t happen. Too bad.

  • sarah says:

what if the furs were fake. I thought you people thought that was okay.

  • Ana says:

Antionette I am so proud of you for speaking the truth! What your religion teacher failed to mention is how wrong it is to wear fur.

  • Ariel says:

Antoinette I GREATLY admire you for standing by your convictions! The teacher’s reaction and the outcome just goes to prove that some people fear the truth and some even feel threatened by it. So it is not uncommon for people like that to try to “hide” or even try to disgrace someone else from telling the truth. Many an ar’s activists have faced and had to deal with much much worse reactions but nonetheless you proved to have TREMENDOUS bravery and courage. And please don’t let anyone ever take that away from you!

There is a full set of pics on the wenn database. http://www.wenn.com

  • Rom says:

I was disgusted to see a picture of Sarah J. Parker dripping in fur with a caption about the wonderful costumer responsible for this great outfit. I just wonder why an attractive relatively young woman wants to look old and passe. I mean no offense to those who are old by this but that is what I would like to say to such people. As for their pathetic comeback attempt with this movie taking cheap shots at PETA is not chic. Is there a slander lawsuit in the works from PETA over this?

  • AnimalLib says:

Kim Cattrall signed a petition to eliminate the use of “cruel” leghold traps but I have photos of her wearing mink fur coats It’s interesting how people are so mixed on this issue. Like Kimberly Stewart who used to attend PETA parties. Or Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford who used to be antifur. Or Kate Moss who signed the compassionate supermodels thing then wore shitloads of fur then signed up with that company that is against fur then PETA sent her flowers then a week later she wore this hideous purple fur for Versace that looked like a grimace outfit. Or Madonna sweet sweet Madonna who used to wear those shirts saying “Ugly people wear fur” yes I have those pictures also aswell as 30 pictures of her wearing fur after and before she wore those shirtsironically she was named by Maxim Magazine as the fourth ugliest female celebrity on the planet well that’s not really irony that’s poetic justice Or John Lennon who wanted to give peace a chance and sung in Imagine “Imagine a world without possessions” and used the money he received from that song to by an apartment in New York to store his fur coats. People are so hippocritical just chose a side and stick to it it’s not that hard.

  • Anonymous says:

as long as she’s being condemned for wearing the fur in the movie’s storyline i wouldn’t be too ruffled. i mean yeah we don’t throw paint and it sucks that people think of us that way but if the movie makes samantha jones look idiotic for wearing fur i’ll bear the insults.

  • Antoinette says:

my religion teacher made a comment this year about how its wrong for peta to throw paint on peoples coats and i have a peta2 messanger bag so i think she new i support peta and i totally flipped out on her saying that isnt done by peta. and i mentioned all the great things peta does for the animals. i actually got a weeks worth of detention for starting a debate and “trouble” but it was worth it cause i made a point. if this scence makes the final cut more people will have negtative views about peta. we have to do something to stop this scene from making the final cut.

  • Aran says:

“And for the record PETA doesn’t throw paint on fur wearers.” That a shame LOL

  • Judith, Freedom Fighter says:

Are these Sex and the City skanks at it again? When in one episode all the girls were wearing fur that was enough for me. Then in a magazine two of the girls were bathed in furs. I have never watched it again.

  • Carla says:

Good exposing this to a national audiance will also get Peta more recognition.
