SeaWorld, It’s ‘Plane’ and Simple: ‘Free Tilly!’

Written by PETA | March 8, 2010

PETA’s forecast for SeaWorld San Antonio—cloudy with a chance of freedom:

On Saturday, PETA’s “Let Orcas Out of Prison” banner flew across the sky while dedicated PETA supporters on the ground spread the word that trainers and animals will continue to get hurt or die until SeaWorld frees the animals to sanctuaries.

Coastal sanctuaries are the only humane places for the wild animals who are currently used by SeaWorld and other parks and who suffer for years in confined, unnatural conditions. One psychologist has pointed out that Tilikum—the captive orca who killed a SeaWorld trainer—is so traumatized from the shock of his capture, the disruption of his natural development, and his more than 30 years of imprisonment in a concrete pool that if he were human, he would undoubtedly be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

SeaWorld’s continued exploitation of these sensitive animals is nothing more than a callous way to turn a cheap buck. Please don’t support it.

wait if you free tilly you can also kill him he will die in the wild

  • Sandy Steffen says:

Please free all the animals you have in captivity. We don’t know the harm we are causing them by keeping them in cages or tanks. God put them here for all to enjoy and I’m sure he didn’t mean for them to be caged or in tanks for life..Again please free all you have in captivity.

  • kendall says:

seaworld is a horrible way to treat animals make they entertain for food. people say they have a personal connections with the trainer and the whale its only because it has to beg for its own food and has only one way to release all its energy perform. its sad and i went to seaworld when i was a kid but when i have my own we will not be supporting seaworld for being cruel to marine animals.

I wonder if they will let Tilly go if he kills another trainer. Nah I don’t think so.

  • Estelle Hogan says:

free the animals from this parody of cruelty

  • Michelle says:

After seeing the recent Acadamy Award winning documentary “The Cove” I am horrified and ashamed to be among the same species that are as ruthless and heartless as humans can be. Can’t they see these animals are crying out? What worries me the most is when I hear the younger generation saying “it’s too late” and “there’s nothing we can do about it now”… I want to prove to them that we CAN change it.. we can never give up!!! Please … oh please… I pray that we the little voices of the world can help Tilly and the rest.. one at a time.

  • Chris Lewis says:

That was so awesome to see the plane out there with the banner. I heard a lot of people inside seaworld were looking at it. It was great to be a part of the protest thanks Shari.

  • Shari says:

Hurray! To see that banner in the sky that day was great! PETA should do more air land protest. It’s kinda like “protest warfare” You hit them from all sides. Think about it with that banner in the air it was like dropping a “peaceful bomb” on them! And then we had the protest ” troops” at ground zero in front of the gates with our protest posters! We won the battle that day and we will WIN the war to end animal abuse cruelty! PETA …. You make me proud!

  • Andre Inglis says:

Eyes are on Seaworld. Motivation is high in the animal rights community and we are going to win this! Keep the pressure on. Your voices are very powerful! People ARE listening!

  • margo alexander says:

You can take the animal out of the wild but you can’t take the wild out of the animal. This is an old saying but it’s very very true. Don’t cry if these sadistic captors get killed. They advocate exploiting wild animals and if they really loved animals they wouldn’t be trainers.

  • cARRIE kNIGHT says:

Although i feel the for the trainer and her family I dont blame the Orca was only doing what they do and if Tilly had not been in captivity this would not have happenedFree Tilly!!!!

  • Rose says:

This is such a sad situation. I think alot of people are under the impression that sea world is a place of sanction for the animals where in reality it is more like a circus. Even though Sea world educates visitors on wildlife etc it still does more harm than good. The other day my 5 year old nephew caught a lizard and put it in a jar he was convinced that if he let it go it would get hurt or eaten by a bird. For some reason is reminds me of this.

  • Kamila Momora says:

Free them Now! See how you like being imprisoned in what feels like a cardboard box for 30 years!!
