SeaWorld Pass Holder Sees ‘Blackfish,’ Takes Action

Written by PETA | August 21, 2013

Blackfish, a critically acclaimed documentary by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, is SeaWorld’s worst nightmare. The documentary focuses on a captive orca, Tilikum, who was torn away from his family when he was just 2 years old and, out of frustration caused by 20 years of intense confinement, isolation, and lack of emotional and intellectual stimulation, has killed three humans.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise then that SeaWorld’s attendance is down. And this photo is the proof. A PETA Files reader alerted us to a photo from a former SeaWorld pass holder who was so disturbed by the film that he cut up his season pass and declared that he would never visit the park again.

You can help animals imprisoned by SeaWorld, too. If you or someone you know has a SeaWorld pass, cut it up and share the photo with others—help spread the word. Check out to learn more about the orcas suffering at the hands of SeaWorld.

  • I’m sorry for the black fish, makes me sad!!!!

  • Collegegirl says:

This movie made me extremely angry towards seaworld and anyone else who steals animals from their families and habitats. I also cried throughout and I am glad that people are doing something and refusing to go to seaworld. Save the Orcas and all other animals i captivity!!

  • Cindy Dumas says:

I am so glad to hear this! Sea World needs to drastically change it’s future course. Too many of us are now joining the fight to keep Orcas free and wild, not captive.

  • Christine says:

Bravo for Blackfish for revealing the horrid truth about the greedy SeaWorlds of Hurt! Thank you to the people cutting up your “passes to cruelty!” The money you spend on supporting animal exploitation and abuse, could be donated to PETA, or other reputable animal sanctuaries, shelters, etc. I hope Blackfish wins an Oscar–it’s brilliant! Go Vegan and help all animals 🙂
