It’s Payback Time for Circuses

Written by PETA | April 21, 2011

Despite undercover footage of Ringling and Carson & Barnes Circus showing that they treat animals cruelly, both circuses are still trying to deceive people to keep their sales alive. PETA knows that these circuses hurt elephants, and we want to force them to come clean.

We believe that both of these big-top bullies are illegally deceiving the public and must give refunds and monetary restitution to people who were tricked into purchasing tickets, only to be horrified when they learned the truth about what their money supported. So if you or someone you know is a California resident who bought a ticket for one of these shows and would like a refund, call us today at  757-373-0968.

I’m only 16 and even I think that this has gone far enough! Animals are meant to be in the wild, to live freely and breath that fresh air. NOT FORCED TO GET UP ON STAGE AND PERFORM TRICKS IN FRONT OF THOUSANDS OF ANNOYING SCREAMING PEOPLE AND THEN GET SAVAGELY BEATEN WHEN THEY CAN’T DO THINGS THAT MOST HUMANS CAN NOT EVEN DO!!!!!!!! I am SO sick of people having the mentality that allows them to do such things to innocent animals. In honor of all the animals in the world that have gone, are going through, and will go through these DISGUSTING acts of torture, I have given up meat and honestly can not be happier. These kinds of things need to stop and everyone can do SOMETHING to help. I’m going to start a club at school to help inform more people about the growing dangers to animals around the globe. Don’t just sit there, get up and DO SOMETHING!! Post on facebook, tweet on twitter, call friends or family, buy t-shirts, start a club, posters, ANYTHING!!!! One more voice WILL make a difference, and could possibly encourage more people to speak out! We can do this! If we work hard together, all these animals WILL be given a voice!

Have anyone seen “Dumbo” ( I think that’s the name). my mom watched the video with me while I was child. Now I show it to my children…

  • jacqueline juhl says:

elephants are the most majestic peaceful animal they only attack like any other animal when abused and tortured they deserve so much better this has to stop.

@Micetro read something before you bash it. Waterfor elephants is pro animal rights, the main character figures out how horribly the elephant hes in charge of is treated. The Animal cruelty in the novel is a huge part of the book. Sarah Gruen (author) is very anti animal cruelty but way to slash something without knowing anything what so ever

  • Keri says:

Would someone please help me understand why local animal cruelty authorities cannot go into not only the circus atmospheres but also the investigated “caught on tape” fur and other cruelty facilities and confiscate these animals do to said proof? I am not trying to sound silly but we see it on Animal Cops all the time…Someone please explain? This is so frustrating!

  • Micetro says:

Has anyone seen the new movie “Water for Elephants”? I haven’t heard any comments about this yet. I have not seen it, but believe it is about elephants in a circus. Boo.

  • MeganAshley says:

I never go to circuses. I think it’s just so horrible. I feel so bad for these elephants! I wish I could take those sticks away from those men & beat them with it.

  • Dani says:

I have only ever been to a circus once when my kids were small and i was horrified, and so were the kids @ what was happening to the animals, that i @ once reported it to the authorities and had the circus checked out and they closed it down.

  • SHERYL LONG says:

Tell everyone you know to NEVER ATTEND A CIRCUS!!! If there is no demand…then there will be no supply!!!

  • Ashley says:

Elephants and big cats are dangerous wild animals so does it make sense to bring your family into a tent filled with them? Of course not. These animals are not given the respect they deserve and live in horrible conditions and eventually they snap.

  • ALPrice1997 says:

God put these creatures on earth for people to love them not eat and harm them! its so so sad! they didnt want this!

  • chicagogirl says:

I have not attended a circus besides cirque du soleil (who uses no animals) for years and years because of the cruelty they inflict on animals. I cry everytime i see a commercial of a poor elephant being forced to do tricks. Do people still enjoy this? Really? Its sickening! Dont go people!!!!!

  • Deanna says:

elephants never forget! Tigers are endangered, remember that.

  • Abby says:

The poor, poor souls… They did not ask for this. Elephants are so gentle and beautiful and have such kind eyes. I love them so dearly… How on earth can human beings do this?
