Rodeo Promoters Get Panties in Bunch, Sue Activists Over Matchbox 20

Written by PETA | April 17, 2008

Honestly, I think I got most of the story out in the title, but here goes: According to TMZ, a booking company called Romeo Entertainment is suing an animal group after Matchbox 20 pulled out of performing at a rodeo. They’re evidently pissed that the group, called SHARK, sent Matchbox 20 info about the cruelty of rodeos, causing the band to cancel their appearance. And this isn’t the first time it’s happened—Carrie Underwood reportedly pulled out of a similar event in 2006 for the same reasons.

Anyway, good luck with your dumbass lawsuit, Romeo Entertainment. I’m sure the courts are going to look really kindly on this waste of their time.

We all want the best things possible for our animals. It pisses me off when I see someone kick a dog that didnt mind quite right, but I am very involved in rodeo. There is a very thick rulebook for every association that protects the animals and the cowboys. These animals are not scared and they know what is happening around them. If a girl is not treating her horse the way she should she would get disqualified and fined. Horses will buck because they have not been trained. Good rodeo animals like bucking bulls can be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, so needless to say they get taken care of better than most humans. A good number of people will haul water from their home, which costs a lot more, so their animal will stay hydrated better in a foriegn environment. These animals get fed calculated rations so they can be in great shape. These animals never go hungry and always recieve proper care when they are sick. If rodeo wasn’t around what do you think would happen to all the breeds of animals that are used for only this purpose? All these animals would be slaughtered, because there would be no use for them. The only cows we would need would be meat and dairy cows. Thats maybe 5-6 different breeds. Rodeos use hundreds of breeds of cows from corrientes to brahma. All the steers, calves, bulls, and horses used in these rodeos would be dead.

Wow have any of you actually ever talked to a rodeo personal or rodeo queen? I’m going to guess not. Have you ever educated yourself on every rule of PRCA have you ever watched a rodeo up close and personal? Once again I am going to guess not. I myself am very active in rodeo. I live for my horses and ride and exersize them daily. Just like any other cowboy or cowgirl I know. We all love our stock and treat them with the best care because without them we would not be able to compete. And as far as the rough stock events bulls naturally buck and charge humans and any other animal or thing the feel like going after at the time. And horses horses buck when being ridden if they are greenbroke. And the flank straps put on the horses and bulls are not anything but leather with wool over them. Completley humane. And if you put it too tight as people seem to think rodeo personal do the animal would not be able to buck. So instead of passing judgement please do your research first. Thank you for taking your time to read these and consider the facts.

I think we Cheyenne are right in sueing. This is bull. I go every year and there’s no animal cruelity. Where’s your proof?

  • JB says:

And yes…. I know that the lawsuit everyone is referring to is against SHARK but there is talk here in Cheyenne now about them going after Matchbox 20 as well….

  • JB says:

Having lived and worked as a radio broadcaster in Cheyenne WY where this concert was to take place I’ve personally met Bob Romeo. This will end up being David vs. Goliath in reverse trust me…. Romeo’s “Evil David” is wasting both time and money in a nowin situation. Matchbox 20 and attorneys from Atlantic Records will absolutely decimate his little Promotion company…. And even assuming they could get any sort of favorable judgement what entertainer will EVER book with him again after this lawsuit?? He’s suing his own organization out of existance and I say good riddance. Kudos to SHARK for simply telling the truth…. And kudos to Rob Marisol Matchbox 20 for knowing it when they see it.

  • Todd says:

Actually Jack you should too … from reading the TMZ doc the lawsuit appears to have to do with interference with a contractual relationship. IANAL but I remember it was covered in Business Law 101 for those of us that didn’t want to go to law school. To sue for breech of contract they would have to go after Matchbox 20 not SHARK. Not saying they will win mind you … in fact it will be bad for SHARK and PETA for that matter if they do.

  • Jack says:

So the activists are liable for breach of contract because they gave the performers information about the event? I think you may need to go back to law school Brian. jack

  • Brian says:

It’s called breach of contract morons.

  • Michelle Greggs says:

They are so stupid. They believe in God so why can’t we be activists???

  • KalgaryKaren says:

I went to Matchbox 20′s YouTube channel and told them how much I respected them for taking a stance on this!

  • Bill says:

It’s McLibel II Just when you thought it was safe to tell the truth.

  • Maureen says:

I suppose you could call a Rodeo a kind of American version of Bull Fighting or Brazil’s Farra do Boi. They all torture bulls and calves and to call it entertainment is sick and disgusting! Kudos for SHARK and Matchbox 20.

  • kelly says:

Romeo Entertainment. Is this the Nazis alive and well in America? What do they beat up schoolchildren too who don’t like the fact that they are torturing animals?

  • Carla says:

Keep up the good “biting” SHARK!!

  • Judith, Freedom Fighter for Animals says:

Shark is one of the finest group of activists that go after the Rodeo Monsters. You would not believe some of the cruelty’s I’ve read about over the years. It the worst I’ve ever seen. Jack Thank you so very much for exposing these monsters. Peace Jack!
