Protest at Falcons Training Camp

Written by PETA | July 23, 2007

Welcome to Day 7 of the Michael Vick dogfighting indictment. PETA is still being inundated with calls and emails about the case, and we’re still working round the clock to make sure that the NFL and Vick’s sponsors send a real message to fans about the cruelty of dogfighting, rather than just sitting around to see what will happen next. I’ll have some more updates for you in a little while, but in the meantime, here are some great photos from today’s PETA demonstration outside Falcons HQ. You can be certain that there’s more where that came from.

Ohio State Buckeyes fans out there will recognize the man on the left of this first photo—Bill Long, the QB for the Buckeyes in the 60s who led them to a national championship in 1968, is a longtime animal activist who’s been working this whole week in Atlanta on this campaign. Bill, you’re amazing.

You folks at PETA are idiots and probably RACISTS! The man hasn’t even been convicted yet and you’re already calling for him to be locked away! He was indicted not found guilty of a crime. I’m a law enforcement officer and it’s not hard to get an indictment. Evidence can be circumstantial at best and you’ll get an indictment. During a grand jury they only here what the so called evidence is against the accused and the jury typically renders an indictment. Before you people get in an uproar calling for him to loose his job and have his endorsement deals taken away wait until all of the facts are presented during the trial then you’ll see if the evidence against him will standup. Also there are so many other things to be protesting about in this world……for instance the genocide that’s taking place in the Sudan! Finally if this were a white athlete like Tom Brady would you condemn him from jump or wait for a verdict of guilt or innocence. Oh yeah Nancy H. I will go and protest in support of Michael Vick…..hope to see you there!!

all u muthafuckas can fuck off vick is innocent till proven guilty so shut all ur fuckin mouths u can all my ass and vicks!!!

  • Katelyn says:

Wow I can’t believe there are morons on here actually advocating for Vick. YOU are what is worng with society not PETA. GET A GRIP YOURSELF!!! Boo Hoo little Mr. Rich superstar may not get to play football tear. Let me tell you seomthing Vick is a prime example that money can’t buy class!! If you want to keep cheering him on after what he has done then go ahead hell bring your kids to the game to because he is a fantastic role model. And PS killing domesticated animals is not natural it is actually a sign of severe mental illness. I would know since I have 8 years of college under my belt and do REAL WORK for money not just throw a ball. Maybe you should educate yourself before spouting your mouth!!!

  • Todd says:

PETA is a bunch of cry babies with nothing to do but bitch about shit that doesn’t really matter. Don’t you have better things to do like go to work? You show your lack of intelligence by emotionally jumping on any story that involves animals and humans. You always predictably shout ridiculous claims. Why don’t you understand that no matter how advanced humans get technologically we are still animals ourselves that hunt our food and kill it for basic survival just like all other carnivores. In my opinion you are protesting God for making us that way. This makes about as much sense as shouting at the sky when it has been raining too much!! By the way my family has raised cows from birth to the feedlot for over 110 years. They end up on your table as steaks! Yum!! So why don’t you come protest me!! You suck PETA!!

  • WEDEL ENTERTAINMENT says:

SACK VIC DOG FIGHTING IS NOT ENTERTAINMENT!!!!

  • tammye says:

Keith your a coward The feds don’t play around they have enough evidence for a guaranteed conviction! Michael Vick is guilty and I hope that the rest of his life is a living hell

  • CLARISSA says:

REGARDLESS OF THIS JERKS ROLE IN THIS WHOLE SITUATION REGARDLESS IF HE IS FOUND GUILTY HE KNEW ABOUT IT SO THAT MAKES HIM JUST AS GUILTY. I WISH I HAD THE AUTHORITY TO DO SOMETHING BECAUSE I WOULDN’T WAIT TILL HE IS FOUIND INNOCENTGUILTY. HE HAS MONEY HE’LL GET OUT OF IT. HE WOULD BE THROWN OUT OF THE NBA FOR GOOD I DONT CARE IF I HAD TO PAY HIM TO LEAVE OR NOT. THATS WHAT THIS WILL ALL COME DOWN TO. HE GETS PAID WELL SO WHY WOULD HE WANT TO BET ON THESE DOGS BECAUSE HE IS A HEARTLESS SOB

  • Michele says:

Sponsors like Nike do NOT have Michael Vick on their books because of his athletic ability it is for his ability to bring them $$$!!! That’s where we have to get the message across with our wallets. Every dollar that someone chooses to spend on another company like Reebok or Brooks is a dollar that Nike loses and that is probably the only way to get these companies to notice. Tell them you will never spend another cent on a Nike product until they drop Vick. He does not have to be convicted before this happens Nike and the NFL do not have to wait for any court decision they have to show the public that they are not going to promote someone under suspicion of such a horrific act. If he is innocent which I doubt based on the hard proof that they have used as their basis for even asking for an indictment then everyone can resume their business. VestaGirl unfortunately I think you may be wasting your time trying to convince the few losers on this site to improve their grammar and typing style though your comments are completely on the mark!. I have seen these kinds of posts time and time again usually from the macho hunter types who have to kill defenseless animals in order to feel good about themselves yes hunters I said defenseless in the wild they have natural abilities such as speed to protect themselves however they are no match for a gun!. They don’t get it and probably never will. Fortunately there are many people on these blogs who seem to be interested in opening up their minds to new information and a new way of thinking about animals. Even though Vick is not the first celebrity to be involved in this type of activity at least the hype about it is getting a lot of people to really think about animal cruelty even if they never consciously thought about it before. From reading the posts on all of the Vick items I think there is hope for many young people as well they are the ones who will grow up already thinking in terms of humane animal treatment and will be part of shaping humanity in the future. Sounds sappy yes but in the face of all of this horror I have to believe that a lot of positive change will come out of it.

  • Bill says:

Sports legend Pete Rose was kicked out of baseball for a victimless character flaw. If a bum like Vick is tolerated it will be a disgrace to professional sports.

  • Cam says:

How unfortunate it is that people would reduce themselves to abusing animals and engaging in such acts of barbarism as electrocutions beatings and the absolute destruction of any form of life for we are all sharing the privilege to live on this Earth. How telling it is that those who defend Vick’s actions on this forum would express themselves with such a limited vocabulary as evidenced in the profanity that they so proudly use. Such truly horrible acts can only inspire such negative responses. After the gavel announces the product of due process may the accused suffer for their involvement in this tragedy and may the guilty constantly recall the pain of death that they brought upon the innocent. In God’s universe there is no future for such examples of the dregs of society other than the carrying of the weight of their guilt a terminal and artificial comfort derived from their illbegotten material possessions and most of all the greatest damnation the loss of innocense and the death of the person whom they could have been. He who has taken the life of another should spend a lifetime repenting for that greatest and most terrible theft.

Please please please Peta and everyone else get in touch with Commonwealth Attorney Gerald Poindexter’s office to find out why he refuses to pursue charges against Michael Vick even though he has had proof of his guilt for months. I just called Mr. Poindexter’s office and when I asked why Mr. Poindexter wasn’t pursuing charges they hung up on me! • Imperfect says:

Would you guys please take a moment and think about the judgement you are passing on an imperfect man who lives among imperfect people. If Mike was not famous would you boycott his job? If this were his only way of making ends meat and surviving would you be lobbying for his removal from his livelihood. Thanks to your efforts a man who hasn’t even been prvoen guilty is essentially jobless for the moment. I’m glad everyone in PETA is perfect and all those in America who are judging Mike. Thank You.

  • VestaGirl says:

“JOHN R” Pardon? Please please please as with the other PETA haters consider getting a formal education or failing that an English Language Dictionary. There are plenty of them online. Same applies to “Jourdan Scott” nb numbers aren’t words. Oh one more thing keeping your CAPS LOCK key on simply makes you look even more an idiot if that’s possible. not to mention your predictable commentary… If you’re so keen on Primitive Vick why don’t you go out and protestpublicly show your supposed support of him? I dare you. Oh that’s right your shift at KFC doesn’t end until 1000.

  • nancy h. says:

FYI to Jay the Falcons don’t have to pay Vick if it is found that he violated the conduct clause of his contract. That may be determined by the NFL after review of evidence listed in the indictment and not by a trial. From what I have read in the indictment Mr. Vick is undoubtedly in violation of the conduct clause and will never be allowed to play in the NFL again. The trial will be held midseason making it unlikely that he will be able to play even if the league allowed him to play. Vick will not play this season. He will be convicted and he will never play again. He will be a nonperson in the sport. I wish more could be done to him.

  • Rachel says:

Good Morning I am working on trying to get a group together for the Thursday protest at the Falcon’s training camp will everyone meet at 1200pm?

  • Austin says:

Guilty until proven innocent I guess? Apparently PETA is hoping for a repeat of the Duke Lacrosse case. If Vick is ultimately proven innocent I hope PETA and every media outlet that has convicted him before he even stepped into a courtroom are slapped with the largest defamation of character suit in history. …but this whole case pretty well sums up PETA and most other ultraliberal groups. At least for the organizers it’s not about doing the right thing. It’s just about getting media attention and in turn getting money.

  • Dan says:

What has Micheal Vick been convicted of yet? Nothing is the answer to kick him of the team and pull all of his sponsorship some of which has already started at this point is premature. Rememer the three kids from Duke and how ridiculed they were? As it turned out they were guilty of nothing and had to put up with a bunch of nonsense because people just like you jumped the gun and convicted them before their due process. Vick is owed his due process in our legal system. If he is found guilty he should be punished to the full extent of the law and then some. How do any of you know he was involved in any of this where you there? I think he is guilty and if he is found that way he should fry but not any point sooner than that.

  • Randy says:

Way to go PETA. At least someone is sticking up for the pit bulls against this multimillion dollar football player. I hope Vick gets prison time. Maybe he will then know what it felt like for the dogs he abused.

  • meto says:

Michael Vick hasnt been convicted of anything so just stfu. When he is proven guilty then action can be taken but until then the falcons and nfl should let vick play. Go to hell you fucking stupid pricks nobody fucking cares about you guys protesting

  • anti-sean says:

I don’t believe PETA voted President Bush into office. In all fairness I’ll go doublecheck my understanding of the elections process. As far as the war in Iraq there are numerous socially active groups working on that. I doubt you email private business or individuals “Dear CocaCola… why the hell aren’t you bringing our troops home?”and whine about their lack of involvement against the war so you’ve no better reason to whine to PETA. Good luck with that though.

  • will says:

I personally see nothing wrong with dog fighting. The last time I checked Michael Vick was only accused of crimes not convicted. All of these people who are saying they hope he gets the punishment he deserves are stupid because he hasn’t been proved guilty. I find it funny that the FBI has nothing better to do than prosecute a man who is accused of dog fighting. By the way his cousin was the one who controlled what went on in the house Vick just owned it.

  • Joyce Martin says:

Michael Vick is a THUG. A mentally challenged individual with hate in his heart and sould. He is nothing more than a brutal murderer. I would say that anyone with a pet that can think of what they did to those dogs would not sit still for his return to the NFL or society. The Atlanta Falcons entire team should protest playing football with this horrible piece of flesh. Can’t even call him a human being.

  • JOHN R says:

I HAVE GOT TO SAY WHAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY? OH I FORGOT VICK IS A BLACK MAN IN AMERICA SO THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. AS FOR P.E.T.A. YOU ARE THE BIGGEST BLEEDING HEART LIBERALS AS TO PEOPLE LIKE YOU THIS IS THE REASON WHY AMERICA IS ALL SCREWED UP. YOUR SENSE OF MORALIZATION IS TOTALLY ABSCURED. YOU CARE MORE ABOUT ANIMALS THAT ARE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FOOD CHAIN THAN FOR THE DUMB ASS PRESIDENT YOU VOTED INTO OFFICE WHO HAS STARTED A WAR WITH NO PHYSICAL EVIDENCE. I SAY FORGET THE WAR IN IRAQ BRING OUR TROOPS HOME SO THEY CAN WIPE OUT ALL OF YOU IDIOTS THAT WORK FOR P.E.T.A. PRICKS ENTERTAINING THOUGHTLESS ASSHOLES

  • Mind your own says:

Mind you own business. This man has enough legal problems. With out people like you trying to destroy years of hard work. The companies that sponsor him do so because of his Athletic ability not what he does in his personal life. People who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. what about all the illegal things this Organization has done in the past. Get off this mans back. I think someone ran over a dog in Virginia yesterday go bust his chops

  • anti-sean says:

I see many people complaining in vulgarity or reasonable language that due process is not being followed. Please keep in mind that PETA is not the justice system nor claims to be. They are exercising legal first amendment rights by publicly expressing their conviction that Vick is guilty of the charges brought forth in this heinously damning indictment. Please remember that this is a common form of expression that has played out in front of courtrooms and areas of public gathering for decades. In each of those cases people were gathering and expressing their opinions before a conviction was handed down. So lighten up ok?

  • Wil says:

You are “innocent until proven guilty” in court according to rules of law. The NFL NFL teams PETA and the general public aren’t required to presume innocence in the face of evidence to the contrary we are allowed to use common sense. I’m happy how much attention 50 protesters have gotten. They’ve been on the cover pages of CNN.com and ESPN.com!

  • Hell's Kitchen Guy says:

Peta really needs to get the word out about these protests in NYC Atlanta why not Virginia? ahead of time. They should be at the TOP of the leadin page not some stupid petition.

  • Cecil Harris says:

Honestly you guys are being to anal about QB Vick.I’m not supporting His viewsI’m just saying. What if that was your child or you.Do you think that is fair for him ti lose his job from acompany that has spent millions of dollars. Suspended money taken away donation to PETA or APA and a public apology yes.But not losing something he worked hard for. Get your heads in reality and out your asses. Thank You

  • Corey says:

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

  • gilbert konishi says:

Peta You should organize protests and a boycott of Home Depot products. That will quickly prompt Falcons owner also owns Home Depotto get rid of Vick. Thank you

  • kar_kar says:

check it out! good stuff. httpsports.espn.go.comnflnewsstory?id2946832

  • Anne says:

Bill Long the QB for the Buckeyes in the 60s who led the team to a national championship in 1968 is a REAL RESPECTABLE player. THANKS FOR KEEPING SPORTS CLEAN! YOU ARE A REAL ROLE MODEL FOR KIDS. Thanks so much for bringing national attention to Vick’s sick hobbie.

  • paul says:

Vick is a cruel and disgusting human being. I hope he never plays in the NFL again. Another example of a rich young athlete who thinks he is above the law. An utterly dispicable and disgraceful human being…everyone on the falcons organization should be ashamed

  • Jourdan Scott says:

PETA go fuck yourself u can’t blame Vick 4 something he didn’t do. i love animals but your taking it 2 the extreme. i eat meat i love it. chickenscowspigsetc. have only one purpose 4 us kill and eat them its doggy dog world deal with it!!!

  • brad c says:

it is wrong what you are doing. vick is supposed to be innocent until proven guilty. organizations like yours are what wrong with our nation. you have convicted him before he has even been on trial. if he is guilty he will be punished then. and hopefully to the fullest if it is true but until then we should allow the judical system do its job. prove that vick is indeed guilty.

  • CHRIS says:

Im in Metro Atlanta. I would love to join PETA in protesting but i dont know where or when. Can someone give me info? Kris

  • April says:

I live very close to the Falcons training facility and was wondering if there were more protests scheduled. I want everyone to know that there are plenty of Falcons fans that are outraged of Vicks actions!! Thanks!!!

  • Chris says:

Why dont you give the guy due process? Indictments mean nothing. I’d rather him be found guilty and be banned for 23 years or longer than be suspended only to be proven guilty and then everyone look like fools. This is America and anyone should be afforded due process.

  • D says:

NFL commish just ordered Vick to stay out of training camp pending review!!! Almost there!

  • Robby says:

If the NFL wants their role models for our young people to be engaged in dog fighting then let’s take it one step further. I got an idea maybe one of you graphic artist’s out there could do this Put Vick on the cover of a box of Wheaties have him with a football in one hand and a chained scarredup gnarling pit bull in the other. Then send it to all those NFLAFL football coaches out there. And don’t stop there send it to all the colleges and high schools too. Because there nothing a like a sports figure hitting the “big time” when they make the Wheaties box. And when that box is sitting on all those kitchen counters then maybe just maybe they’ll get the idea.

  • nan mcclain says:

Yes!!!!!!!Roger Goodell just announced that he has asked Michael Vick to stay out of training camp until his “legal” problems are resolved. First kick him out now fire him! I packed up all my neighborhood’s Vick’s jerseys and sent them back to Arthur Blank at the Falcon’s camp today.Every little bit helps.

KEEP the pressure on my fellow animal lovers!Thank you!

  • Ariel says:

A GREAT BIG THANKS TO BILL LONG to ALL of the professional athletes who are not only TRUE role models in their respective sports but also TRUE role models of humane compassion as animal activists which children can truly emulate. Thank goodness for the respectable influence of these REAL men who maintain a respect for their sport themselves their decent team members and for innocent animals. Without them Vick and his type would totally destroy the wholesome image of American sports…which btw has been rapidly dwindling due to MANY sports players being discovered committing various crimes. As FOX news reported the average is one player every one and half weeks who is charged with committing a serious crime.

  • Cita Shepherd says:

GO BUCKS!!! I live here in Ohio and I’ve emailed The Falcons and just about everyone else I could think of Sponsors etc. This guy has got to GO !!! Money? What about integrity? Kindness to animals? Pay the guy off I don’t care just get rid of him!! Sure all of this “due process” is garbage he has lied is still lying and needs to go.. Atlanta needs to take a stand and DROP him give the second stringer a chance anyone but HIM. About a 1000 people should show up before or on the day camp starts!!! This includes old Rev. Al.

  • jay says:

This is stupid we all know Vick is Atlanta and trying to kick him out will not only hurt the falcons but destroy them. They have to pay the man all of the 152 million. He made a mistake and he will have to do some community service for it but kicking him out of atlantamaking stupid tshirts makes no sense. its either Vick stays or falcons with JOEY HARRINGTON will bust.Stop the stupid maddness

  • Jay says:

I have just been reading about Michael Vick protest at Falcons headquarters and to be honest 50 protesters sounds like a very WEAK showing. Certainly not enough to get anybody to act on anything. I’m not going to drive from RichmondVa. but it would seem to me that PETA would have a stronger base than 50 people….. I suppose it’s a start. Please go after this punk.

  • Darren says:

This is fantastic. I really hope the penalty fits the crime. It is great to see people such as Bill Long standing up for the victims here. We are the only voices for the animals who are victims of cruelty all over the world. Shame on anyone who gets pleasure at the expense of animal pain and suffering.

  • BullyDawg says:

Wow I never thought I’d say it but I think I’m an Ohio State fan now! Way to go Bill!

  • Keith says:
