Pierce Brosnan Helps Fix Animal Homelessness

Pierce Brosnan doesn’t need James Bond–esque gadgets to end animal homelessness—just a paintbrush. Pierce painted a charming portrait of his rescued animals, dog Shilo and cat Coco, to serve as the artwork for California’s new “Spay & Neuter Saves Lives” license plates. The plates are now being delivered, so soon California drivers will see this important reminder:

The standard plates cost $50, $40 of which goes directly to multiple spay/neuter initiatives across the state.

• The number of people who credit Paul McCartney with helping them see the “veggie” light just keeps growing. Mark Ronson—Paul’s producer for his latest album, New—told news sources that after eating vegetarian with Paul during their marathon recording sessions, he realized that he genuinely liked the food. He added, “You have more energy, which you can see every day in Paul, he’s so driven.” And the numbers will likely keep increasing: Paul is famous for supplying free vegetarian food to all the people who help out with his video shoots, recording sessions, and tours.

• When animal-friendly stars are being honored for their achievements, they often make sure to use the platform to get more attention for animal rights. And one of Major League Baseball’s most compassionate players is up for the game’s highest honor. Our friend Chase Utley is in the running for the Roberto Clemente Award, owing to his fantastic season and all-around awesomeness. Everyone who takes a moment to vote for Chase—and therefore animals—will be entered to win a trip to a 2013 World Series game.

• Just when you thought you couldn’t love the Clintons any more—what with Bill’s primarily vegan diet and Hillary’s and Chelsea’s well-known appreciation for vegan foods—now the Clinton Global Initiative has set its sights on protecting Africa’s wild elephants from poaching. Hillary has announced a new $80 million global effort to end illegal ivory trafficking and save the dwindling elephant population.
