PETA Wants Bible to Show God’s Love for Animals

When PETA heard that the Committee on Bible Translation had revised the New International Version (NIV) of the Christian Bible to use gender-inclusive language, such as replacing “men” with “people,” we thought, wouldn’t it be great if the new NIV showed consideration for female (and male) animals too? So we wrote to the Committee on Bible Translation and asked them to use “he” or “she” rather than “it” to refer to animals in the next edition of the NIV.

“Language matters. Calling an animal ‘it’ denies them something,” PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich told CNN. “They are beloved by God. They glorify God.”

Since God loves all His creation (and if you’re not convinced of this, try reading Matthew 25:40Isaiah 11:9, or Luke 6:36), it’s only fitting that humans do the same by showing respect to every living being. Maybe Psalm 50:11 says it best: “I know and am acquainted with all the birds of the mountains, and the wild animals of the field are Mine and are with Me, in My mind.” Perhaps if we change the way we speak about animals, our thinking will follow.

    Proverbs 12 (AMP) 10 A [consistently] righteous man regards the life of his beast, but even the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

  • Gail Sinclair says:

    “… and to every animal of the earth, and to every fowl of the heavens, and to everything that creepeth on the earth, in which is a living soul, every green herb for food. And it was so.”

    – Genesis 1:30

    “And all flesh perished that moved upon the earth, both fowl, and cattle, and beast, and every swarming thing that swarmeth upon the earth, and every man; all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life…”

    – Genesis 7:21,22

    “Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing and the breath of all mankind?”

    – Job 12:9-10

    After the flood, God establishes His covenant to never again destroy the earth by flood, with humans and animals alike: “I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth that is with you, as many as came out of the ark… When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

    – Genesis 9:9-10, 16-17

    Animals respond to the felt presence of God when people are praying together: they are drawn into the circle of concern. They bark, hiss, or cringe when the presence of spiritual evil is felt. They are often more intuitive and keenly aware of spiritual realities than humans are:

    – At Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, He again chose a way to enter into Jerusalem that symbolized His relationship to the animals: He was carried in on the back of an unbroken, untrained donkey that had never had a rider before (Mark 11:2). Yet, that colt was so sensitive to the presence of God, that he did not shy or startle or balk.

    – When the prophet Balaam did not see the angel with his sword drawn in his pathway, but his faithful donkey did, and saved the prophet’s life! (Numbers 22)

    – The Philistines who sent the ark of God back to the Israelites on a cart pulled by two dairy cows, and kept the calves back at the barn. The cows were more obedient to the will of God than to their natural instinct to return to the barn and their calves, and hence proved that they recognized God. (1 Samuel 6).

    – Elijah the prophet was fed by ravens, at God’s command.

    Job 12:7-10:

    “But ask the animals, and they will teach you,

    or the birds of the air, and they will tell you;

    8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,

    or let the fish of the sea inform you.

    9 Which of all these does not know

    that the hand of the LORD has done this?

    10 In his hand is the life of every creature ….”

    Psalm 104:

    25 This great and wide sea,

    In which are innumerable teeming things,

    Living things both small and great.

    26 There the ships sail about;

    There is that Leviathan

    Which You have made to play there.

    27 These all wait for You,

    That You may give them their food in due season.

    28 What You give them they gather in;

    You open Your hand, they are filled with good.

    29 You hide Your face, they are troubled;

    You take away their breath, they die and return to their dust.

    30 You send forth Your Spirit, they are created;

    And You renew the face of the earth.

    “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.”

    – Romans 8:19-22:

    “I am establishing my covenant with you and your descendants after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth that is with you, as many as came out of the ark…When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”

    – Genesis 9:9-10, 16-17

    “Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your judgments are like the great deep; you save humans and animals alike, O LORD.”

    – Psalm 36:6

    “All flesh shall see the salvation of God.”

    – Luke 3:6

    “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”

    – Psalm 150:6

    “Then I heard every living creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, singing, “To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshipped.” – Revelation 5:13-14

    I am a big supporter of PETA and also a Christian. Yesterday i had my beautiful friend, my girl/dog Sally put to sleep and it broke my heart but she will live in my heart forever and i know she is sleeping peacefully now. Why waste time with all the crap about blaming God or changing words in the bible. We dont need anyone to clarify it, she, or he as we know in our hearts what we feel and what our pets/friends,companions and animals mean to us Why not just keep doing the best we can to speak up and try to stop cruelty to animals and change legislation etc, bringing God into the picture is not helping our animals or our fight to speak for our friends. Instead of bitching about things we can not change let us try to change what we can. May my beautiful Sally rest in peace. xxx

    Dont try to defend any animal rights issues with the Bible. It clearly dedicates page after page of detailed instructions of how to perform required heinous animal sacrifice. As well as regulating the trade, sale, and raising of animals for food and beasts of burden. As well as mandating the slaughter of any animal that has unwillingly become the victim of beastiality. So… lets not kid ourselves here. Lets not try to reinterpret the Bible. Lets admit what it really is. An illogical, barbaric book written by bronze age nitwits.

    Please read the bible carefully, originally man was not meant to eat animals, as all creation lived together in the Garden of Eden, untill the sin of Adam and Eve. Go on to read Leviticus (11 versus 26 to 29) as to what we may or not eat, Gods law is law and applies to all his creation. Cruelty to his first flesh and blood creation will not go unpunished the Word of GOD starts off with not eating animals and if you read Isaiah (65 & 66), take note of the scriptures,you will see the earth ends with animals being there with humans.In Revelation all creation shall see the Salvation of GOD. GOD will not be mocked, in my opinion evil is evil and wicked is wicked, that only man is capable of, why were animals used as sacrifices in the Old testament for the atonement of mans sin, Because they are innocent yet so abused and cruelly treated by humans.Dont forget that the same hands that formed you formed them. Animals are a magnificent creation and so happy with very little, whereas humans never have enough the fleshly greeds and lusts and despicable manner in which they treat another form of life.If you live by the sword you die by the sword, what you sow you will reap. Makes one think, dont be fooled their Creator will not allow their suffering to go unpunished.

    who ever justifies that god created animals to be slaughtered and killed and eat should never forget that all religions condemn animal killing… buddhism:-He who for the sake of happiness hurts others who also want happiness, shall not hereafter find happiness. (Dhammapada, 131.) apart from this buddha before his death addressed his followers and had told hence forth tell all my followers tro refrain from all kind of meat,,,in christianity also 1st commandment itself says”thou shall not kill” and many other quotes are found whwre in we understand god loves animals also,,in vaishnavism and vedic and jainism and buddhism it is clearly told just like 3primary colors make millions of colours similarly 3levels of consciousness makes millions of species so by killing animals we shud never forget we can also get animal body since spirit soul is present in all the species even in plants but plants have least sensitivity so it is not killing if we eat fruits and vegetarians,,,,,,in islam we find only halal meat but we shud understand from history islam was meant for arabs whose consciousness level was very bad they had turned into evil by all soughts of crime including inhumane killing so this was an easier method of killing but they shold practice vegetarianism for further spiritual advancement,,,hope ppl will understand this things from their heart and not their mind,,mind is more towards sense gratification
