PETA Sailors Get ‘Nauti’

Written by Michelle Kretzer | June 11, 2012

PETA’s “skipper” and “first mate” set their course for Harborfest in Norfolk, Virginia, to tell the throngs of visitors in town to ogle tall ships from around the world how to keep the wind in their sails for years to come.

By making it vegan the next time they’re in the galley, staying healthy will become smooth sailing for these mateys.

Not to mention the added benefit of keeping unwanted pounds at bay!

Hi Carmen, I was the same way we were raised on meat and potatoes. I became a vegetarian because of health issues. Later I realized I made the right choice beacuse of ethical issues how animals are treated. I watched the video Earthlings narated by Joaquin Phoenix and I don’t think any time in my life I cried as much as when I watched this video. I have and never will be the same again. If I knew then what I know now I would have been a vegetarian from a very early age.

You know, I remember that I used to be quite resistant to vegetables. I loved my meat..and vegetables were a very small portion of my diet. But today, I understand the suffering and unethical treatment of animals who cannot speak for themselves. Who lie hopeless under the cruel hands of mankind. Who depend on us to speak for them. But all this was not realised, until I came across a post by a being so kind and compassionate – H.E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche. On his blog, he had a post on Earthlings, and that was where I watched the video, with much horror and sadness. Sadness as to why I never thought further and took things for granted..things that I labelled as just food for my stomach.
