PETA’s McCruelty Statue—People Are Lovin’ It

Written by PETA | March 3, 2011

You can’t keep a good bird down. PETA’s crippled-chicken statue was shut out of Louisville and Denver, but it has finally come home to roost in Raleigh

PETA unveiled the new anti-McDonald’s statue, which was designed by New Yorker cover artist Harry Bliss, to a receptive parade of passersby, who took home more than 400 leaflets explaining how chickens killed for McDonald’s continue to suffer broken bones and wings and be scalded to death in defeathering tanks, even though a less cruel slaughter method is available. Many people wanted to talk to the PETA staff about the statue and the McCruelty campaign, and everyone flipped over the McCruelty stickers.

If you haven’t already, please join our fine feathered fowl and tell McDonald’s that you’re hatin’ it

I AM SO SICK OF MCDONALDS AND THEIR CRUEL AND DISGUSTING METHODS OF PROVIDING CHEAP MEAT. REALLY? THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE EATING THE NEXT TIME YOU CHOW DOWN ON THAT MCCHICKEN BURGER. NASTY BLODD , CHEMICALS , HORMONES , PESTICIDES ETC ETC.. PLUS THINK ABOUT ALL THE FEAR GRIEF AND PAIN AND RAGE THAT THESE ANIMALS FEEL. IS IT REALLY WORTH IT? GO VEGAN AND DUMP MCD’S!

  • Sickly Passerby says:

I ate McDonald’s before I went to PETA, and I threw up. Maybe if they switched to a safer and nicer version of killing, it would accutally taste GOOD!

  • kitkattluv says:

  • Sid says:

Ummm… McDonalds, like KFC, get their chickens from various suppliers; they do NOT raise their own. How about a boycott of all restaurants & supermarkets that buy from these companies as well..

  • James says:

@ani magic – yes that is a beautiful, truthful quote that exemplifies Buddhist ideals, but, sadly, Dalai Lama XIV make an exception for himself, and publicly admits that he eats meat :( !!!

  • chris o says:

From what I can see, PETA has ways of protesting that appeal to almost anyone. Can’t miss the statue, but what do you suggest, Kez? it’s childish to throw stones and not contribute, so give us your best!

  • Jarwanto Wiyono says:

  • kate says:

C’mon McDonalds, stop causing so much cruelty. Turning a blind eye to the way these animals live and die only to end up making mega money for you is really off! It’s always about the money and the poor animals suffer as a consequence. Lift your game and be responsible and compassionate. PLEASE!!!!

“A nation’s progress can be judged by how they treat their animals.” Gandhi Enough said.

  • jacqueline Ruebsam says:

  • Gerry says:

Looks to me like McDonald’s is not going to change their way of getting chicken McNugget’s, sickning !! I guess there’s going to have to be a more visual method of changing their ways. TV announcements or commercials of kids holding dead chickens refusing to go to McDonalds because of the cruelty. This sucks !!!

  • Kez says:

Oh, PETA, you sure have one the most childish and stupid ways of protesting. The statue stupid. I wish you guys have GOOD ways of making a point.

  • melmac says:

  • Ingrid says:

A corporation torturing the animals it kills to sell and make profit off? Nothing short of disgusting, and bordering on sociopathic. If you are going to take an animal’s life, you treat it with respect. You can give all that money to cancer charities and kids groups but it’s just blood money. Money made from the suffering of another species. WAKE. UP.

  • inxs91 says:

How can people be so blind? How can they be so cold? Have humans lost our sense of compassion and love towards harmless animals? We should not enjoy the suffering inflicted on others to satisfy our “needs”.

  • chloe Lietzke says:

MacDonalds also refuses to give leftovers to the needy.

  • nancy says:

What a great way to bring attention to the issue. I never walk into a McDonald’s to support them with a purchase. I’m hating it too!

  • vicki s. says:

Why is it that if some lone kid scaleded animal after animal to death, they would be arrested and charged but these mega companies do it on mass scale and people love them?!?! What is happening to our society?

  • Shelbie says:

Peta should come up with a mini version of this. Like a key chain with peta’s name or slogan on it to pass out with flyers. Give people something to remember so they can tell everyone they know about it

  • joyee0221 says:

    Savages!

  • ani magic says:

“Life is as dear to a mute creature as it is to man. Just as one wants happiness and fears pain, just as one wants to live and not die, so do other creatures.” — Dalai Lama XIV

    McCruelty must stop!

  • HeidiB4 says:

  • Heidi says:

    Unacceptable

  • Nitasha says:

Anyone who thinks ANY large American fast food coorporation is justified should you tube “farm to fridges” and tell me if you think this is worth your “McCraving” Its sad that we subject these poor animals to this much pain and cruelty to satisfy our fat bellies! At least be humane when slaughtering these poor animals! The heads at major fast food corporations would consider being more humane if the fact if how animals were slaughtered in production of your beloved $1.89 junior chicken burger were boycotted. Let’s face it, Mcdonalds isn’t going anywhere, they will do anything to take the market over, and if it made us happy and kept us buying burgers, they would change the way the animals were slaughtered, and they’d do it with a smile on their face and dollar signa in their eyes!

  • Sunny says:

It is our duty to treat animals with compassion and respect. As a leading food company you have the ability to be a roll model within the industry.

  • cybergent says:

If you have to eat chicken, please do it humanely.

  • sandra de vits says:

this must be stoped !!! i’m not loving with your doing to animals. i hate it
