PETA Names Celebrity Grinches of 2011

Written by PETA | December 24, 2011

Just in case Santa is having any trouble with his last-minute “naughty or nice” decisions, PETA has teamed up with World Entertainment News Network to circulate a Christmas Eve list of the most animal-unfriendly celebrities of the year. So here are our Top (Bottom?) Three Celebrity Grinches of 2011:

  • When Janet Jackson had her infamous “wardrobe malfunction” during the Super Bowl, at least the flesh that popped into view was her own—unlike the stolen animal skins that she drapes herself with, which are as dead as her taste in fashion (not to mention her career). Ms. Jackson, you’re just plain nasty.
  • Filmmaker and former visionary Cameron Crowe went retro in the wrong way for his new flick, We Bought a Zoo, which relied on the performing-animal industry—in which the “actors” are routinely neglected and even abused—instead of using state-of-the-art computer imaging. Exploiting live animals to tell a story about saving animals? At least Elizabethtown won’t go down as his worst creative flop.
  • Some have speculated that Kim Kardashian‘s wedding to NBA forward Kris Humphries was fake. Too bad the socialite princess doesn’t have the same enthusiasm for faking her fur. Unlike her sweet sister Khloe, who starred in her own PETA anti-fur ad, Kim just can’t seem to divorce herself from fur and say “I do” to a kind and kompassionate wardrobe.

Here’s hoping that the hearts of this terrible trio grow three sizes this holiday season and that we can start the new year off (animal) right(s)!

I am shocked and surprised to hear about Janet Jackson! What a disappointment.

  • tfortune1 says:

Good comment. On your back or plate. I hope they are recycling all of those cow and pig skins. I sure do enjoy my meat for dinner, and most americans enjoy their eggs, despite how the chickens are treated. Did you ever think about the tendons and ligaments attached to muscle in a turkey leg. Put it all in prospective. The only difference is the “star” has her fir out where we can see it and you don’t.

  • Brandi says:

Although we live in a civilized world kinda, it’s pretty pathetic that some people still feel the need to where fur from animals. If it was 10,000 years ago, I could see it.. But get over it.. Wearing fur is like wearing your pet.. You wouldn’t do that would you!!!!!

  • neb says:

i would never ever wear fur (bah) but for the people who really want to wear fur ( i dont see why but ok) why cant they take the fur of animals who had a normal life and died a natural normal death (hopefully of old age), instead of killing an animal for their fur?

  • Angela says:

I was a Kardashian fan until I saw this!!!

  • kim says:

Kim kardashians.. Peta sat her dawn and showed her different video, she did not care she just went ahead and purchased more furs…. Kardashians collection is made in China’s sweat shops using child labor… If you do not have any Compassion for human being you think she has any for those poor animals ??? Boycott Kim kardashians

  • sbentley says:

YOU CAN ADD JOAN RIVERS TO THAT CRUEL LIST !!!! THESE PEOPLE JUST DON’T GET IT. WHAT’S NEXT: HOW WOULD THEY LIKE US TO SKIN THEM AND WEAR IT…HOW FASHIONABLE.! WHERE IS THE COMPASSION?!!

  • Vet Barnes says:

Wearing animal skins or furs is part of the cycle of nature and far better life for these animals to be well taken care of until their death. In the wild many would not live past 6 months of age. That is a fact and to really acknowledge the support human beings give these animals and all animals is to acknowledge that nature designed this relationship to ensure the survival of all species.

While I am not a fan of Kim K, I was a bit disappointed in PETA when I saw this Press Release. It’s one thing to have a list of grinches (so that consumers can make decisions about who gets our money), but quite another for an organization to espouse and broadcast such personal attacks. If 2011 has taught us nothing, it has taught us that bullying is real and hurtful words do damage. I believe that PETA is above comments such as “dead as her career”, etc. Here’s hoping that PETA can start the new year with wit that fights fair.

  • BikerMed says:

Davide PETA is not saying the dress ugly or tacky. They are saying the fact that they CHOOSE to wear animals it tacky and ugly. The fact that the animals they CHOOSE to wear didn’t have a choice in the short tortured life they lived and then killed. I agree Kim K is disgusting, I don’t think people like her need to be in the news all the time. What does she do that is so great? Anyone that turns a blind eye to how animals are treated whether its before they end up on your plate or on your body should be educated. It is not right these people claim ignorance, and stupidity and think it is ok that animals suffer

  • Davide says:

i am sorry to say, but PETA you have no say in fashion so don’t go telling people they dress ugly or are tacky just because they have a different view

  • I <3 Animals :) says:

At least one Kardashian has done something good for the world. LOL >D

  • billy williams says:

hmm,I will remember these names when thinking about what to buy,I won’t pay to see these celebrities in their movies,music,fashion,Whatever-None!-Stick to cruelty free celebrities like Rupart Wyatt :)

  • pinkdiamond504 says:

These people make me sick. If they were smart enough to check out the facts about how they make the fur and what they do to these poor animals maybe they would change their mind or maybe their just heartless whore bags that don’t care maybe someday God will put it in their hearts to see what’s really going on..And for Kim she might be all over t.v but she should be more like her sister..Big ups to Khloe.
