NBC’s Sexually-Explicit Super Bowl Ad Rejection Makes Us Blush

Apparently, NBC has something against girls who love their veggies. After we submitted our proposed Super Bowl ad, which features a comely crop of models demonstrating their fondness for fresh produce, NBC nixed the ad, saying it “depicts a level of sexuality exceeding our standards.” No joke, this is straight from NBC—so stop fondling your fruit salad right now and read the list of shots NBC requested we cut before they’d reconsider:

  • licking pumpkin
  • touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli
  • pumpkin from behind between legs
  • rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin
  • screwing herself with broccoli (fuzzy)
  • asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina
  • licking eggplant
  • rubbing asparagus on breast

Wow, that list even made us blush! You can read the full NSFW letter from NBC here and then watch the video to see what the controversy is all about.  Not as pure as eating apple pie, but it sure does drive home the fact that vegetarians make better lovers. And I’m pretty sure that most Super Bowl fans would find the ad a lot more appealing than the impotence and other not-so-sexy effects that a steady stream of chicken wings and burgers can have on their love lives.

Why so grouchy NBC? Sounds like someone’s not getting enough um…vegetables. I’m thinking network execs could really benefit from a broccoli booty call.

    How many ads have I seen during a superbowl that consist of half-naked, big breasted ladies “loving” their ice cold beers? While I definitely agree that we don’t need to be selling sex to get our message across, this is total hypocrisy on the part of NBC!

    Everybody calm down. The ad is fine. I’ve seen more suggestive and/or offensive behavior on prime time TV (including NBC) every evening. And I’m definitely eating more asparagus now and not raping anybody.

    As a man, I find these ads to be quite humerous. I don’t see what the problem is. A bunch of dinosaurs at NBC. Should have let it be. Also, something to be said about their fear of women expressing sexuality – in any form. Ladies should consider this. I don’t think it depicts women as sex objects. It turns the table and depicts the vegetables as sex objects. Women can do whatever they want – and confident, compassionate men like that a lot more. If the goal was to illicit a response, it certainly did (and would have even further if it aired). I don’t think it would’ve been negative at all. We can show so much destruction and horror but not sex or love. I find the PETA commercials that depict animals being harmed as very difficult to watch – not appealing because the reality bites. We find a way to show it through love or sex and its banned, hmm?

    You can have a better ad without all the “sex”. When is the world going to realize that we are not all pimps and sluts??? Want a great ad? Sell it without using sex. Try getting to our brains instead of our sexual responses. Now that would be a brilliant ad.. I support peta, but won’t continue to if they continue to do ads like this. If you want young kids to be vegans and supporter then gear your ads as such.

    First, I LOVE THE AD. Excellent implications yet accomplished with style, grace and taste. Interesting how NBC saw things that were not there or things that didn’t happen. Judging from what I’ve seen and heard on NBC’s own programs, they don’t have any standards – or they waive their so-called standards when it comes to their programs. Obviously, NBC did NOT WANT TO run an ad for PETA, especially an effective one. Seems as if that decision was made BEFORE they ever viewed the ad. Then they simply looked for as many reasons, real or imaginary, as possible to reject it. Too bad the airwaves don’t really belong to the public. Too bad NBC didn’t have the balls to run the ad in spite of the gazillions of dollars they receive from the meat industry. Granted, it takes real courage to do the right thing – the kind of courage described in detail by President John F. Kennedy in PROFILES IN COURAGE. All I can say is PETA made a GREAT TV AD and NBC made themselves into a GREAT EXAMPLE of a company with no integrity and an enormous amount of cowardice.
