Natalie Portman Announces New Vegan Shoe Collection

Written by PETA | December 26, 2007

Natalie Portman has announced a new line of vegan shoes in conjunction with Te Casan. The shoes are available for pre-order on January 15 and 5% of profits will be going to charity. Natalie, of course, is a longtime vegetarian and has long made it clear that she only sports fashion that does not come from animals.Unfortunately that’s all the info that has been released. Hopefully we’ll see prices and the actual products soon. As much as I don’t normally care about shoes, I’m actually pretty curious about these. Maybe it’s because I spent much of my high school and college years praying that Natalie and I would run off and get married. Or at least meet. Natalie, if you’re reading this I just want you to know that I’m officially over you. I’m 100% committed to Kristen Bell now. I’m sorry to break it to you this way. The good news is that Jack is still interested. Maybe we can go on double-dates or something.- Joel

Veeno Is commenting on a “Blog” being part of PETA? And why do you have to repeat yourself?

  • Veeno says:

Caboose. You think its pathetic? You shouldn’t be here. You shouldn’t be a part of PETA.

  • Harveen says:

Caboose. If you think it’s pathetic then you shouldn’t be here you shouldn’t be part of PETA.

  • Caboose says:

    michele pathetic

  • Michele says:

Caboose you spend enough time reading and responding to the PETAfiles that you should already have at least a general idea why vegans are opposed to the use of silk! But for the benefit of anyone else reading this who is just beginning to learn about animal rights issues this is the formal answer as to why vegans would not wear anything made from silk “Silk is the fiber that silkworms weave to make cocoons. To obtain silk distributors boil the worms alive inside their cocoons. Anyone who has ever seen worms startle when their dark homes are uncovered must acknowledge that worms are sensate they produce endorphins and have a physical response to pain.”

  • Caboose says:

    michele SO?

  • Michele says:

Caboose because it comes from silkworms.

  • Caboose says:

    why not silk?

  • Caboose says:

K what can they be made of and are they comfortable?

  • Michele says:

I found a fantastic “patent” look pump from Sears in Canada in September you don’t have to spend a lot of $$$ to get nonleather shoes! Ann I know what you mean about telling salespeople that you don’t wear leather I had stupified looks from a salesperson when I was trying to find a nonsilk tie. She just could not understand what I was asking like she couldn’t believe that such a thing even existed. She was too busy to help but fortunately when I went back another day I easily found a whole section that had polyester versions that looked just like the silk ties. again for a lot less $$$

This is exciting news! It’s great to hear there will be more fashionable choices in vegan wear. I haven’t worn clothing made from animal products in years but that doesn’t mean I don’t like to shop and stay up on the trends it just makes shopping more difficult. When I tell a shoe salesperson I don’t wear leather they look at me like I’m from another planet. Many people haven’t stopped wearing leather because they think it’s too difficult to find attractive and comfortable nonleather shoes so the more nonleather alternatives out there the better. Hopefully she has a fashionable black pump which I’ve been trying to find everywhere!

  • Corinne says:

Yippee!! I love finding new animal friendly products! Cant wait to see the shoes

  • K says:

Caboose It’s not hard to find or make a vegan shoe…

  • Caboose says:

    OOO vinyl petroleum

  • Jaclyn says:

I would have to agree with Monique I find that if I look for vegan shoes at a vegan internet store they are not very fashionable. I prefer to just round up the mall and stores like Target for shoes that say all man made materials. A lot of vinyl stuff is in now so I’m finding a lot of cool shoes for work.

  • monique says:

Thank you for the awesome news! I am finding in my transition to cruelty free apparel that “vegan” shoes aren’t very fashionable. I decided to just buy what was available but it looks like I will have better choices now! Yay!

  • parla says:

she is a real angel her beauty comes from her heart. you are gerat natalie

  • Caboose says:

Michele You dont know what a joke is do ya? What are the shoes made of?

  • darla says:

Way to go Natalie! You are a class act all the way. God bless you!

  • Ruth Eisenbud says:

If the shoes are made in China then Natalie Portman is supporting the worst cruelty imaginable to dogs as the chinese view them as an edible aphrodisiac.

  • Carla says:

I’m back just to find out Joel is back too!! Right on! And many thanks to Natalie!

  • Michele says:

For anyone not clear on the concept VEGAN shoes mean they do not have any component made from animals. Veganism is not just a diet but is a lifestyle choice. My “vegan” body lotion is not something I drink but it was not tested on animals and it contains no animal byproducts such as lanolin or animal glycerin. Way to go Natalie!

  • K says:

    WOWWW That’s pretty cool

  • Caboose says:
