Naked Angels: Nothing New to Catholic Church

Written by PETA | December 4, 2009

We’re heartened that our new ad, featuring Joanna Krupa and a lifesaving message about animal adoptions, is receiving strong support from Catholics and non-Catholics alike. However, we are perplexed by the few complaints we’ve gotten that we dared depict our angel in the nude! Why they want to cloud the issue at hand (helping millions of homeless cats and dogs) is perplexing: The Catholic Church has a long history of depicting their angels in the buff, so what gives?

Caring people everywhere, of all faiths, applaud our beautiful, artistic ad that encourages compassion toward animals—and Ms. Krupa for her decision to assist us in that effort. They also recognize that the anguish endured by millions of neglected and abused dogs and cats who suffer in backyards, back alleys, puppy mills, and pet stores is the issue that truly warrants our society’s outrage and attention.

I want to make it clear I like the idea behind this ad to go and adopt animals from shelters. My pets are from shelters. But you’re asking “What gives” as to why the ad is being frowned upon by many in spite of the Renaissance nude statue and I’ll tell you why The sculpture on the left is a nude angel however it is covered with a piece of fabric in the spots that need be. In your ad you are using a cross to strategically cover Krupa’s parts that cannot be shown in an ad. This is sacrilege and why people are frowning upon it. Had you covered the important parts with fabric ribbons no matter how skimpy there wouldn’t be an uproar about it. This is a great idea PETA we should adopt as much as possible however there is a keen reason as to why they are upset try not to use religious items as coverup because instead of this being really helpful you turned away a lot of people for lack of taste. Ribbons good crosses not so good.

I can appreciate everything the PETA does to at least get people to make a reasonable decision … on the opposite .. the people and organizations that exploit animals .. they are extreme and very unreasonable .. all for the almighty dollar .. at least PETA does it for the love of God .. and the pic showing the gal with the cross .. if that showed up in my dreams … be a happy camper.

Traditional Angels specifically Catholic ones do not hone in on primal instincts and sex appeal. The angel in the ad however noble the message and truly it is is based on intended sex appeal. Certainly the complaints are based on this. However the message of the ad is definitely worth abiding by.
