I Love Sophie Monk

Written by PETA | October 21, 2007

Australian singer, actress, and long-time vegetarian Sophie Monk is as compassionate as she is beautiful, which is why she jumped at the chance to star in this beautiful ad promoting vegetarianism.

Sophie_Monk_Naked_Veg_blog.jpg

Sophie is super hot right now, and not just because she’s lying on a bed of chili peppers. She was in Date Movie and Click last year, she’s set to star in Scary Movie 5, and she absolutely killed it in a guest spot on Entourage last season. And I’d be remiss not to mention her amazing cover of the classic Salt ‘n’ Pepa track “Push It.” The video for “Push It,” directed by Sophie’s fiancé, Good Charlotte guitarist and fellow animal rights supporter Benji Madden, became an online hit almost immediately.

Check out what Sophie has to say about being vegetarian, animal testing, and other animal issues in this exclusive behind-the-scenes video from the photo shoot:

I don’t debate that humans should consume meat as part of a healthy diet and that meat is tasty…but the way we handle animals today and the over population of the human race means that we are REALLY messing with mother nature and REALLY taking advantage of the animal kingdom. We used to raise and respect the animals that we ate. Now we have no respect or relationship with our meat products. We should all be vegetations based on the fact that the production and slaughter of animals is unethical and we are supporting this industry with our purchases. Those people that are all pro meat eating and making comments, at lease buy organic or free range..but what I’d really like to see, is you raising and slaughtering your own animals. Then you might just deserve to consume them!

It’s people like you that make me happy I’m an Omnivore because No matter how you look at it You’re all retarded. The human body was designed by our so called God to eat both the Meats of animals and the Meats of Plants. How would you like it if all the sudden Greenpeace Came through and Said you couldn’t eat your Precious plants because it was bad for the Environment? Would you starve? You all fail to see the fact that no You wouldn’t stop so Stop pushing your Bullshit beliefs on everyone else. There will always be someone cooking a steak There will always be someone beating their dog and there will always be some one slitting the throat of a cow. All animals on this earth are Edible and if you really want to stop animal cruelty Go to the city pound and get them to stop euthanizing 200+ animals per day. You people waste more than any other person on the planet because that Delicious Steak you refuse to buy due to your “beliefs” Goes into the trash eventually and Is wasted. Do the world a Favor and put some arsenic powder in your tofu next time you munch on it.

First I agree that the “sexy PETA” ads just don’t work. If you’re serious about a serious subject speak seriously. Second I’m a “stupid” “idiotic” meat eater who just happens to have several vegetarian and vegan friends. We frequently sit at the same tables at restaurants and successfully hold intelligent conversations without belittling each other’s beliefs. My above mentioned friends commented that if they had encountered the reactionary name calling they read in the above posts while considering the lifestyle they might still be eating meat today. Creating antipathy within those you wish to convince is not effective.

yeah animal testing is wrong everyone who takes insulin should be left to die we should stop vaccinating for things like small pox and people who have heart problems that could be fixed with parts of pig hearts should be turned away horay for animal right horay for stupid bimbo’s willing to give up there dignity for a paycheck from PETA

  • Martinp says:

To all of you lot who are leaving comments about what a waste of time etc etc etc this ad was I assure you I have never been to a website about being vegetarian in my life as I am not a vegetarian. I followed the link to see more of this beautiful vegetarian woman Who has instantly dispelled my preconcieved idea that vegetarians are unhealthy looking people…. So I came a read a bit about it. So in terms of promoting vegetarianism this is a 100 success in terms of promoting vegetarians as HEALTHY PEOPLE PEOPLE!! who LOOK HEALTHY it a 100 success. What better way to dispel the myth that vegetarianism make you unhealthy than this woman looking the epitome of good health? Or that vegetarian food is bland and boring than the Chili peppers and the reference to spice which is also a reference to sexual virility and to the hot girl in the add. The catchprase works the add works. Get over it.

  • Chris says:

Vegetables is not food it’s what food eats!!!!! Jokes aside Sophie Monk is an amazing piece of meat!! I’ll eat her anytime!!!!

  • Tim R says:

Thought I would add that I also agree with PETA on the cruelty of animal testing… There are some things that if tested on some rats I could live with if it bettered humankind. But too much of it is completely unnecessary and frivolous and down right cruel.

  • Tim R says:

Haha meateating idiots? People that eat meat do not feel a false sense of entitlement for no reason. I respect the choice of vegetarians for whatever reason they do not eat meat be it moral or health but PETA and the holierthanthou celebrities that you see here are not role models. There is nothing morally wrong with eating animals. Humans are animals. Animals eat animals. Our teeth and digestive systems were made so we can eat meat. Becoming a vegetarian is NOT the best thing that you can do for our environment either that idea is ludicrous. There are much bigger problems at hand than eating a hamburger. Yes… I know the processes. Yes I’ve seen the movies and read the books and heard the protests. But to think you are better then people just because they eat meat is asinine. People want to bring religion and morals into this? Romans Chapter 14 verses 24 One person has faith that he may eat all things but he who is weak eats vegetables only. The one who eats is not to regard with contempt the one who does not eat and the one who does not eat is not to judge the one who eats for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls and he will stand for the Lord is able to make him stand. And before anyone attacks me as some right wing nut job ley me tell you that I am a deist I just know the Bible fairly well. I only brought this up to go with something mentioned above. Let me also add that I do agree with PETA’s stance on fur. There is absolutely no reason for us to use fur but for the vanities of humans. In the past it would have been acceptable in my opinion… Survival of the fittest. Fur once was the best option to deal with harsh climates but that is not the case any longer. So I guess my point really is stop walking around with some sense of entitlement because you eat tofu. Those of us who enjoy eating meat are not ignorant or stupid any more than the enlightened vegetarians. Some people are stupid yea but stupidity knows no boundaries. There are just as many stupid tofueaters as there are meateaters. And meat tastes good. Personally soy products or tofu products just do not cut it for me.

  • Robert says:

Well obviusly it’s a good way of calling the attention. Don’t think people stop eating meat nad become vegetarian for that but what should be forbid is skinning…I have visited PETA’s web for first time today and my current emotional state is shocked. I can’t see the videos until the end chinese farmers for fur

  • Caboose says:

Michele Eating meat does not make you a DEE DE DEE.

  • Mr. Chief says:

Zat tis sa lot off pepperzzz.

  • Leisa says:

Interesting ideas Vegoconics October 23 2007 1057 AM. People hate to face how that “juicy” fat steak gets to their dinner plate. If you appeal to people’s consciences rather than their lust theres probably a better chance of them giving up meat. “Powered by tofu” great stuff!

  • Judith, Freedom Fighter says:

Lancelot I know just how you feel. It is so much easier for me to be around people that put no meat in their body. It has become very hard to be with them. At my age I am just set in my ways. It’s my way or no way….. You are a beautiful lady Sophie with a beautiful soul. Judith

  • Aleasha says:

    Fabulous!

  • Doug says:

    Lisa B not Kim B.

  • Mr. Chief says:

If I went veg as if i wouldnt want to eat peppers!

  • cheesesteak says:

“Sex sells?” Uh yep. I’ve heard of that. Tell me what does sex sell exactly? Fast cars. Cheeseburgers laughably see Paris Hilton Cigarettes back in the day. Underwear duh. Bubblegum ooo dem doublemint twins. In short sex is used to sell frivolity. Is PETA cause frivolous? I’m assuming you think it isn’t. But these campaigns make it so. There isn’t some clever veg subtext here. The way the add works to the uncoverted? “Yeehaw! Chicks! What they showing the skin for? Some animal rights thing? Yeehaw them PETA chicks are CRAZY” Show me a progressive political ideal that successfully martialed “sex sells.” Please. Like I said the tactic reduces the cause to coverage in late night monologue one liners i.e. “Them people at PETA are at it again “it” implying wacky antics on the fringe of the “real” worldview this time they got the hottie from Not Another Date Movie to cavort in chili peppers” or blogosphere snark actually the blog lines would scan just like the monologue lines. Oh yes I’m sold.

  • Susannah S says:

Today I was talking to an acquaitance of mine about the Ellen Degeneres thing and was telling her about PETA’s stance on the issue. She said “Oh yeah PETA. That’s the one that has all those naked protesters? What’s the organization about?” She went on to explain that well she knew PETA was about animal rights but she “didn’t know anything else about what they actually DO except for the naked protests.” Case in point?

  • Michele says:

Vegoconics the problem with tailoring campaigns for “meat eating idiots” is that these people would likely not respond to a catchy slogan like “powered by tofu” either. PETA is targeting people who may be even just slightly receptive to new information. Unfortunately meateating idiots are not likely to be even remotely receptive to hearing about factory farming and vegetarianism.

  • Kris Shulfer says:

She is smokin hot!! i have a new screen saver now! i loved her in date movie and i love this ad even more! it is beautiful.

  • rainbow says:

i love this goldhearted beautiful sugarcandy!!!

  • Vegoconics says:

Ok K I hear you. And I have heard of the phrase “sex sells”. You are probably correct that sexy ads catch people’s attention..they do. But what I was trying to get to was that maybe it’s not working. A meat eating idiot is going to have pleasure looking at Alicia Silverstone and Sofie Monk naked but will he stop supporting slaughterhouses…I would like to say yes but probably not. I agree with Cheesesteak and Susannah S’s comments. I am only wondering if these ads are effective or not. Forget attention. A cow hanging upside down with blades on it’s neck might grab more attention than looking at celebraties naked. Heck you may as well watch porn! K and admakers here’s an idea Maybe put any of the top vegetarianvegan athletes in a cool pose and behind them put this up “POWERED BY TOFU”.

  • Susannah S says:

I don’t know what Jesus said or didn’t say on the subject of public nudity nor do I think that’s relevant here. What’s relevant here is whether cheesecake beautiful or not “moral” or not is EFFECTIVE in promoting animal rights. I have no problem morally or aesthetically with nudity. But while it’s effective in getting attentionhow positively has it really affected animals? If you didn’t SEE the PETA name on this ad it would look like an ad for salsa! Sorry but I think PETA needs some new marketing ideas and I’m finding the constant getnakedforPETA idea boring.

  • K says:

Wow sooo pretty. In response to Vegoconics and Cheesesteak have you two ever heard of the phrase “sex sells”? In case you both have been living under a rock it is everywhere. Think about why that is. It makes whatever is trying to be promoted more intriguing. “Sexy ads” catch people’s eyestheir attention and encourages them to further explore in this case vegetarianism.

  • Lancelot says:

First of all I love you Sophie Monk. Though I actually love anyone who does not eat animals. Secondly to you people above me the “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” is one of the most popular and effective messages to spread the antifur movement which is desperately needed. Even though this ad does not state that it states “Go Vegetarian.” AND the act of going vegetarian also rejects the leather that comes from slaughterhouses. So thanks endlessly for showing your sexy skin to help stop ripping the skins off other living beings.

  • stoptorture says:

“If you are going to take your clothes off for something it better be a good cause” says Sophie in her interview for PETA. And that is exactly why Jesus told everyone to go do that too because His Gospel is a good cause and so all the pretty ladies should get naked for it … NOT!!!!! That’s right PETA I don’t see that socalled logic in the Bible becuase it is WRONG! It is not good to do! Hey let’s bring them to church with strippers? NO that is not right thinking. That is getting tricked by faulty destructive reasoning.

  • Cheesesteak says:

Vegoconics is right. I really think PETA has its media wires crossed. Really what does turning a political message into cheesecake photography thus reducing the issue to late night monologue one liners really do for your cause? Yes these cheeky photos and vids may spread PETA’s name but only as a cause associated with silliness. I’m half a mind to believe the beef pork and poultry lobbies got together and created a provocateur agent engineered to make their political and economic opposition look silly.

  • Vegoconics says:

She’s hot. This is all nice and dandy but once again how does being naked and sexy help animals. Don’t take me wrong. This is an awesome effort but stupid rich or not people are still going to wear fur idiots are still going to get brain disease and colon cancer by eating meat and animals are still going to get abused. I support PETA’s efforts but I sometimes question these kinds of effort!

  • Doug says:

Beautiful. Reminds me of the Kim B ad shown here on 1011. Same photographer maybe? Both ads are sexy tasteful and of course promote compassionate lifestyle choices. Not sure which I like more but if pressed I guess I’d have to go with Kim B’sI’ve always been a sucker for brunettes….

  • Courtney says:

She is a true inspiration yet one thing does trouble me about her husbands stance on animal rights I was watching a episode of Cribs and he had a tiger in his back yard tied with a chain…a TIGER! That didn’t sit too well for me when u call yourself an animal activist dont have an animal that is supposed to be in the jungle in your freakin LA backyard on a 10 ft chain…not hip at all

  • AnimalLib says:

Y’know what would have been cool? If Sophie and Benji did a I’d Rather go Naked Than Wear Fur au Kathy Najimy and Todd Oldham style except without the stupid hats no offence Cris.

  • AnimalLib says:

Today Tonight wont be very happy. Haha good on ya Sophie.
