‘Jesus’ and a ‘Chicken’ Remind Baptists: Thou Shalt Not Kill

Written by PETA | June 23, 2009

Chick-fil-A founder and lifelong Southern Baptist S. Truett Cathy wrote the book Eat Mor Chikin: Inspire More People, but at the Southern Baptist Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, PETA’s “Jesus” and a “Chicken” were there to inspire people to eat no chicken—or any other animal.

PETA immersed convention attendees in our pro-vegetarian message, which is based on biblical teachings of love and compassion. “Jesus” carried a sign reading, “For Christ’s Sake, Go Vegetarian,” while the “chicken” reminded people that “Jesus loves me too.” They also offered conventiongoers free copies of our “Vegetarian Starter Kit” as well as leaflets relating vegetarian living to Christian teachings.

On a related note, our Sexiest Male Vegetarian of 2009, Monty, grew up eating meat in a Southern Baptist household—until he saw the light and announced to his family that he refused to eat abused animals.

I’m a believer—that many conference attendees will alter their diets to be more compassionate by going vegetarian.

Kurt K. My brother my friend my provocateur forgive my impoliteness. That is what I like most about the Catholic Church aside from their unshakable faith in Christ is charity and forgiveness. It is a good thing too they are going to need it you know. The “inquisitions” were anything but Godly. If your church told you to burn someone at the stake because they are gay or a witch or simply question the authority of the church would you do it? The church is far from perfect Kurt and the Pope is not God. Salvation is through God not the church. You asked how I discern right from wrong. Well that’s an easy one. I choose Love and Life. Every living thing on this planet was chosen by God for life. What an enormous presumption error for people to believe that only they are chosen for life. It is difficult to sum up the answers to your questions in a blog format. I could write a book a very thick book on my reasoning’s revelations divine interventions miracles and deliverance for why I believe what I believe. You believe what you believe because someone told you to believe it. I am grateful to you though. Through you provoking me into fits of anger more mysteries of the Bible and God’s divine will and purpose have been unraveled to me.

Saucy First off I want to thank you for being polite. I will do the same as long as our dialogue stays at this tone. My question for you is and I ask this out of respect how do you know which parts of the Bible to believe and which ones to discard as contraditions? You seem to have a knowledge of the Bible. I will say you probably could quote it much better than I. I was raised Catholic and recently I have made an effort to renew my faith in my church. It is my belief that God gave us animals for our survival. He didn’t put them here to torture and kill without purpose. I find acts of cruelity to be barbaric and horendous. However I also believe that the true sons and daughters of God are humans. We were created in his image I believe we are the choosen ones not the animals. My faith allows me to ask for forgivness any time I feel I have sinned against God. When my time is up and God or his angels tell me that I have sinned by eating animals I will ask for his forgivness. Our loving God will grant me his forgivness. I have to believe that the Catholic church is here for the good of mankind if it was against the will of God to eat animals my Church would tell me. Sorry that is just what I believe.

Brien If Jesus was a meat eater I’m the Easter Bunny.

Kurt K. again you are missing the point. Paul was murderer. Paul killed Christians. Paul had alot of blood on his hands. Paul made alot of mistakes. He was imperfect in every way. Even in his preaching he asked “Are you baptized in the name of Paul?” “Or was it “Paul” who was crucified on your behalf?” A person who was responsible for “feeding” people to lions for not denouncing Christ is not someone I am going to seek out for dietary advise. This is a perfect example of the imperfection of the text. This chapter that you mention to me states the obvious. This meat eating culture that had begun through the “LIES” of individual men who manipulated the text for their own benefit $$$. was being called into question. There was a market place the love of money is the root of all evil for the bludgeoning of animals. Today look Kurt with your own EYES and SEE what that market place has become. How can you believe in a LOVING GOD and believe that this is permissible? Kurt I want to be gentle with you and step out in faith here and believe that you are here to seek the truth and not just stir up strife. No one is judging you but God is going to judge the world and God is going to judge the Church. Personally I am sounding alarm bells to the Christian community. The devil is a liar a devourer the fallen archangle of worship an evil genius the ruler of this world. What do you think that means Kurt? The Bible is full of contradictions and also manipulations. That’s why in the last chapters the Bible says that “woe” is going to come upon those who lied and manipulated the text. It is domonic Kurt. I implore you. Stop consuming the blood of beasts. You remember that scripture don’t you? Sadly Kurt I must question your heart condition your Love of God. Afterall if you tell me you love me then step into “my household” and beat torture kill behead my dog and then eat him and I have prepared for you a plate of pasts how angry do you think I will be with you?

  • Kurt K says:

Romans Chapter 14 “Accept him whose faith is weak without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man’s faith allows him to eat everything but another man whose faith is weak eats only vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand for the Lord is able to make him stand.”

I became vegan after I read Genesis 129 “And God said Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed which is upon the face of all the earth and every tree in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed to you it shall be for meat.” There are also a couple verses in Revelations about the wolf and the lamb lying side by side etc. I’m not sure of those exact verses but Genesis 129 was enough for me! What more proof do Christians need that God DOESN’T want them to eat meat ?? http://www.myspace.comveganval http://www.facebook.comveganval

  • Deborah says:

“Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren ye have done it unto Me.” The fact that Jeshua was always pictured with an animal the dove of peace the lamb of God the fish riding in on the humble donkey etc. He didn’t eat fish he ate bread that was in baskets lined with fishweed or seaweed which is what they used to keep the bread moist and fresh. Genesis clearly states… “Then God said “I give you every seedbearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food.”

Religion is just as much of a desease as eating meat. I’m glad this is having a positive impact though.

  • Brien Comerford says:

Jesus was probably not a vegetarian. But man was vegetarian before the fall and the Prophet Isaiah envisions Messianic times to be vegetarian.

I’m a Christian and a vegetarian. I have had the hardest time trying to convince my fellow Christians the importance of being a vegetarian.

  • Andi says:

Religion is manmade and cultivates hypocrisy and greed. Spirituality and worship of our Creator is Godmade. You don’t need a middle man to pray. What would Jesus do? He would tear down the factory farms the vivisection labs the fur farms the puppy mills and remind us that every herb and plant is here on earth to heal and nourish us. What have they done to God’s creations? They have no right!

  • lauren kelly says:

It’s true! We should show compassion towards all of God’s creations humans and animals alike. It is always good to point out that God would SURELY not want his animals live a lifetime of torture and then be slaughtered inhumanely just for human consumption. That’s not what they’re on this earth for.

  • Louise Thompson says:

Have been a vegetarian for several months now and feel GREAT no more nightmares and my conciounce is CLEAR. I feel healthier and can not belive just what an emotional load it has lifted off my shoulders.

  • Saucy says:

That’s right. Jesus loves you little birdies and the little piggies and cows too. People think because they are at the top of the food chain supposedly that it is OK to eat and destroy other beings in the most gruesome way as if God doesn’t care about these creatures because they do not have all of the abilities and gifts of people. However if you have two children and one is very gifted and everything you ever wanted in a child and you have another child another creation that is retarded you don’t allow the gifted child to torture and destroy the retarded child. I am very pleased to see the demonstrators out there at this convention. We really need to concentrate an effort in this direction. There are conventions going on all across the country. Two of my favorite evangelists are Joyce Meyer and Joel Osteen. It might take a while and we might have to get more graphic. Like the Bible says “Come Boldly before the Thrown of God”. In other other words no sugarcoating.
