MUSE School CA, founded by James Cameron‘s muse, Suzy Amis-Cameron, and her sister, Rebecca Amis, is a progressive elementary school in Calabasas, California, that is “inspiring and preparing young people to live consciously with themselves, one another, and the planet.” So, true to its mission statement, the school announced that it will go completely vegan by 2015. MUSE is already a leader in food education, with an on-site garden and seed-to-table program. But as Suzy astutely put it, “You can’t really call yourself an environmentalist if you’re still consuming animals. You just can’t.” This fall, MUSE will welcome many more students, with the addition of a middle school and high school.

And the Camerons are already racking up accolades:

  • Get ready to “awww” over John Legend and Chrissy Teigen’s newest family member: their adopted three-legged dog, Penny. Chrissy described Penny’s former family as “buttheads” and promised to “shower her with love.” PETA helped start the showering with some new toys and treats for Penny.
  • It’s a girl for Tricia Helfer, too. She’s been happily sharing the news of her new rescued kitten, Prissie. Not to be outdone, Prissie got her own homecoming gift from PETA.
  • Boxer David Haye is best known for his right hook, “The Hayemaker,” which made him a world champion. So when he injured his right shoulder, the rumor mill was quick to say that David’s career was over. But he had other plans. David is determined to bounce back, with help from a new training program and a decision to go vegan. And he’s not ditching meat and dairy products just to help himself: “I watched a TV documentary about how animals are farmed, killed and prepared for us to eat,” he said. “I saw all those cows and pigs and realized I couldn’t be a part of it any more. It was horrible. I did some research to make sure I could still obtain enough protein to fight and, once satisfied that I could, I stopped. I’ll never go back.”
  • And around the globe, people are celebrating resounding victories for elephants, as Mexico City banned animals in circuses and rescued Indian elephant Sunder is relishing his new sanctuary home: BLOCK_MULTI_1 https://twitter.com/kirstiealley/status/474681414416596993
