… are also keeping a Big Brother–esque eye on the annual massacre’s critics.

We know that countless Canadians care about animals. And it seems that many are concerned about Canada’s economy. So it’s safe to guess that many of our northern neighbors will be fuming when they learn that the Canadian government spent C$75,000 in taxpayer money to hire a company to monitor animal protection groups’ chat rooms, Twitter messages, and blogs. After the company spent time monitoring these groups’ messages, government employees would add pro-slaughter assurances that Canada’s “harvest” (i.e., head-bashing) is only carried out on animals who are “healthy and abundant.” No surprise that they steered clear of the “heated and unreceptive” discussions about the common practice of live skinning.
