Hey, Ringling, Pick On Someone Your Own Size

It looks like Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus isn’t anxious for PETA to capture any more footage of its goons employees whacking elephants with bullhooks. How else would you explain the ugly incident that happened this past Tuesday in which a burly, 200-something-pound Ringling worker apparently shoved and almost knocked down PETA staffer Amanda Fortino—who stands 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds soaking wet—while she was videotaping elephants who were being led from a Ringling train to the Rose Garden arena prior to the circus’s performance in Portland, Oregon.

His friends must have been worried that Mr. “Tact and Diplomacy” was in danger of being overpowered by the deceptively slight Amanda (she does have super-vegan powers, you know), Amanda reports that several of the thug’s cohorts bounded to his assistance and surrounded her, effectively blocking her view of the elephants.

Not the smartest move, because another activist was holding the aforementioned video camera and caught the whole thing on tape. We promptly turned the tape over to Portland police, who have opened an investigation into the incident.

Please put a stop to the cruelty and torture. Don’t take your families and children to the circus. I have seen first hand how the animals are treated.

  • Lyn Faull says:

Can PETA please provide contact details for Ringling directly? I am physically sickened by what I have seen their ‘trainers’ do and their denials. I want to be able to tell them personally that civilized people simply do not abuse animals in this way.

  • Amber G says:

Hope she is alright. At least footage was captured. Apparently the “trainers” feel they should treat humans like they so animals. Makes me sick thinking about the animals and how helpless they are. Naturally they will try and fight back and it causes more damage than needs to be done. Let the animals stay in their natural environment not in tiny enclosed areas.

  • chaz says:

What would you expect? People who treat animals like this certainly couldn’t care less about another person.

  • char. says:

Looking forward to seeing that video although I have seen activists assaulted in person plenty of times. It’s just nice to have it on video for a change. Way to go guys!

  • Timothy Sweeney says:

Any circus that uses animals in their acts should be banned. Ringling is among the worst.

  • Sandra Newell says:

Amanda you are a Hero and I only wish I could be there to assist you!

  • Shari says:

It doesn’t surprise me! They beat animals and you know what that means… they think nothing about beating a women or in the case shoving a woman. Ringling Brothers are buttheads. I wanted to say the other word but didn’t know if PETA would allow it Amanda hope your o.k.

  • Dave says:

The family that owns Ringling Brothers the Felds Feld Entertainment hired exCIA people to try to hurt whistleblowers!

These fearless Peta women standing up for animals make me proud to be a female.

  • A Concerned Animal Lover says:

Ringling should be sweating bullets by now. I wouldn’t be surprised if they get shut down in the next 20 years. It’s amazing that a facility with such a bad track record can continue to perform.

  • Brien Comerford says:

The FBI and Psychaitrists concur via asserting that people who are cruel to animals almost invariably cause violent harm to humans.
