Help PETA ID Texas Dog Torturer

Written by PETA | November 9, 2010

PETA is offering up to $2,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who apparently mutilated a dog with a machete in a southern Texas town last month. The poor dog (renamed “Angel” by rescuers) “somehow escaped” from his family’s yard and was found the next morning suffering from deep lacerations on his head, face, back, and feet after apparently being hacked with a machete at least six times. Angel’s tail had been nearly severed and had to be amputated.

If you have any information on this case, please contact PETA’s Cruelty Investigations Department immediately. People who hurt animals are cowards who seek out “easy victims,” and they often take their issues out on humans too. And for the love of dogs, cats, and other animal companions, please ensure that your animals don’t end up like Angel—keep them safe indoors and never let them out of your sight when they are outside.

There has been so many incidents like this around here lately- im from the area where this happened. First this happening to what was probably an amazing dog- I have a pit/lab mix and Id kill anyone that would ever harm her. Also heard about a 280lb man that killed a 4lb Chihuahua after it barked at him and he feared for his life- so he kicked it. Cops dont want to do anything about it here- so some locals are taking it upon themselves to find the guy- maybe authorities will get involved then

  • Sandra says:

Animals are the most souls and deserving in the world.

  • anne says: Please watch the video. This is how they kill dogs in the Philippines.:( It should be illegal and I don’t understand why they treat dogs that way. This will make you all cry so beware.:(

  • Margaret says:

Chicago woman here…if he needs a home, let me know. Thank you.

  • patty says:

This makes me so very sad. That a human lives among us that could do this to an animal…this person is very dangerous. Angel, I am so sorry, my heart breaks for your spirit and wounds. I pray that someone very loving gives you a life in the future full of love that many of us would give you, if you were ours. God bless this animal. IF the person who did this is not found, they will face our God and have to answer for this horrible abuse inflicted on one of His creatures, take solace in that.

  • Marilyn Benavides says:

WHAT TX TOWN??  HAS ANIMAL BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM THE OWNERS?  Kind people posted they wanted to adopt!  This dog needs to be taken out of this town.

  • anastacia nathalie says:

This saddens me so to see a normal human being torture this poor dog like this. I’m in nj and if I lived closer I’d like to adopt her. I’m for Peta and 100% animal cruelty ,I’m doing a campaign for PETA next how KFC is portarying chickens as fast food chain same similarites. But uhm, this is the most thing I ever saw what happen to angel not even a dog but a puppy. When I was growing up I did witness animal abuse chained up. My dog Rex, he was a year old and my father who has mental illness beat the crap out of him. Ive shouldve called the authorites and had done something to prevent it but I was 12 years old at the time. And it was constant ongoing the abuse. To this day I do think about that incident occurred, having guilts I think about my dog Rex. I’d do want to help to stop this abuse.

  • Zoe says:

Unofrtunately, this isn’t uncommon in Texas. I live here and have seen what people put animals through. There’s something with southern states and just not caring. I hope Angel recovers and the bastard who did this is punished

  • Dirk Rogers says:

Once again-humans exhibit their most disgusting character flaws.A beautiful and sweet dog…disgusting

  • Karen Saucedo says:

The dog somehow escaped from the yard and came limping home? And someone, not the owner, has rescued it, changed it’s name and is taking care of it? This smells of a drunk owner and a machete. Look close to home….

  • Brent says:

Please provide more information about this case, city or town etc. This monster needs to be caught before he or she can continue this abuse. I pray for any animal or human, a small helpless child most likely, that comes anywhere near thi monster. It looks like this isn’t the first time for this freak. You would have to build up to this. Especially frightening is that the dog could have easily been killed by the machete, but care was taken to inflict pain and suffering without the mercy of just being killed.

  • Teresa says:

My heart aches for the little angel.

  • lorna says:

I don’t know how people can be this sick.I WOULD LIKE TO DO THIS TO THEM!!!

  • Tejaslonewolf says:

It’s around the McAllen area, in the valley, not far from the Mexican border. Poor dog must of escaped his yard and met up with a waste of a human being. Poor sweetie, hope they’ll forget the horror and have a wonderful life from now on.

  • Jerilyn Capaccione says:

This is just horrible. How can a human being do something like this to an innocent animal? Please, find the perpetrator and punish him severely. An animal lover in PA Jerilyn Capaccione

  • Catherine says:

This happened in Brownsville. A few friends of mine are working with local organizations, shelters, and vet offices to help also as far as I know. (I’m from the area) The last I heard a group called Brownsville Paws is taking donations on Angel’s behalf to help pay for his medical care. Sadly animal cruelty (as well as abandonment and over population is a horrible problem in the Rio Grande Valley area. Following is a link to the local news story. Its wonderful to know so many people want to help the animals that are so often neglected in my hometown.

  • xkrissyrx says:

In texas if you murder someone you get the death penalty so what happen to this dog should be done to the owner what a coward and a disgrace for a human

  • nadia says:

omg..! is he ok now?? that’s sou horrible..

  • PETA says:

Thank you for everyone’s concern over Angel. She’s currently undergone surgery and is still hospitalized at the moment but is spoken for with a good home. We’ll post an update once she is released.

  • Marianne Crawford says:

Individuals like these need to be punished to the max…how inhumane… wish we could to the same to those people, that would teach anybody a lesson…

  • WillowG says:

Angel is not the only dog in need of a loving home. There are thousands of animals out there right now waiting to be adopted. Let this story inspire you to adopt one of them, don’t just focus on Angel. He is merely a representation of all the suffering out there.

  • Rev. Meg Schramm says:

The accompanying article stated the dog was from an area of town called “Little Mexico.” Sadly, I am not surprised by that. My own dog, Buck, was adopted from the Santa Ana California Animal Shelter which has since been closed down. He was found with his brother running loose along Spurgeon Street in the city of Santa Ana. Most of us in the city of Orange call the city of Santa Ana “Mexico, California.” Most of its residents are recent arrivals from Mexico and points south, and they continue to live the way they did back home. It’s not unusual to see chickens in the backyards of single family homes there. Where is this leading? If “Little Mexico” Texas is anything like “Mexico California” the dog got out, ran into another yard, and started harrassing chickens or other livestock and their owner grabbed a machete to take care of the problem. I am not condoning that action at all but that is how it probably would have been handled back in Mexico. If Angel’s guardians had kept him securely contained he would not be suffering right now.

  • Kristi says:

I hope PETA is investigating the family who apparently allowed her to escape. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone in her family did it and then claimed she escaped to get off the hook.

  • DianaDC says:

How can someone do this????? I am so upset and full of anger. But the only thing I can do is pray for the capture of that killer and to wish that no other dog will have to bear this kind of treatment.

  • Raymond says:

I want the puppy. Did someone adopt him yet?

  • Eileen Conrod says:

what could an animal ever do to cause this to happen. No animal should ever be put through this torture I just can’t believe that anyone is capable mentally to do this ,but i guess they are .PATHETIC

  • Nuo says:

I don’t have much but I’d like to add $100 to your reward amount. Please let me know how to. I want this person to be found. I have a dog myself and he is my child. Your photos made me cry. I hope his is getting better every day.

  • Ms kitty says:

Yes I read about this, it’s so sad. Even sadder and horrifying is the news clip on abcnews dot com about the greyhounds whose trainer, used duct tape around their mouths and neck, to starve them to death in their kennels after racing season was over. I believe authorities should throw the book at this sick individual.

  • Chaminda says:

Could you please provide us with more details such as where exactly Angel was found. There’s a possibility of track down those who did this on Facebook, as many other incidents like this.

  • Abe says:

ANYONE READING THIS: Let`s at least double the $2,500 rewards by donating to Peta at least $5/Each to pay for lawyer and other expenses. Or join Peta`s efforts to catch that person. Our system of laws works this way: When a crime is commite…d the law system has to catch the person(s) who commited this crime and give him justice and demonstrate to people what kind of punishment you get when you commit such a crime so people get afraid and think twice before commiting similar crime in the future. So we must bring this guy to justice if not it will be done again. I will donate to Peta right now fr this cause please join me!!!!
