HBO Documentary About PETA Wins at HIFF

Written by PETA | October 25, 2007

The folks at the Hamptons International Film Festival just announced that “I Am an Animal,” the forthcoming documentary about PETA and Ingrid Newkirk, has been named Best Documentary! It’s not actually coming out on HBO until next month — and I haven’t seen it, so I can’t tell you all that much about it — but I can definitely recommend checking out this interview with Ingrid and the film’s director, Matthew Galkin. It looks like it’s going to be a hell of a film. The HIFF people certainly seemed to think so anyway.

I think Ingrid is truly blessed and that God has blessed her and put her on this earth do do just what she’s doing. I admire Ingrid and Peta and everything she has done and doing. I became a vegetarian in Jan after my daughter and I watched a video of the meat Industry both of us changed that day and it was not hard for my daughter to be a vegetarian and myself to become vegan.

Keep in mind this is NOT about Ingrid it’s about animals of all kinds and kindness to them always…

I hope the media doesn’t use censors! Fucking censors.

Maggy Totally agree with you I have the same problems with my family and friends all like to put their heads in the sand. I wish this movie would air in Australia.

I am hoping it will reach people who want to hide from facts. I have many friends who really love animals but when I begin to tell them the things I know they say “Don’t tell meI don’t even want to know.” When I email them PETA pages and asked if they have read them they say they could bear to do so. It is hard for me even with all I know to look at some of the videos but without knoweldge we are indeed powerless and stupid. That is the mentality that allows our government to run all over us. I worry sometimes that PETA is only reaching the choir. Hopefully HBO can change that.

Most HBO documentaries are eventually available on dvd at rental and sales outlets after a time. Take a look now at the excellent HBO documentary DEALING DOGS about the petlab animal trade. It’s available at rental places or ask your library to order it.

From my heart I thank you for this film. Please keep me posted. I just saw the photo of the hog being hung from chains. I just couldn’t bear to watch the video. I am amazed daily at how life can function… as though everything were all right while all the suffering that humans cause to animals. I do believe exposure like this film will help greatly to inform and change hearts.

Do my homework! Either Schoppenhauer or Schweitzer said in rough translation “Kindness to animals is such an unarguable sign of goodness that you can be sure that a person who is cruel to animals is not a good person.”
