A Flurry of (Faux?) Furries

If real fur really is frowned upon at furry conventions—as we were recently told by the chair and CEO of Anthrocon, the world’s largest furry convention—San Jose’s Further Confusion (a.k.a. FurCon) is set to have an awful lot of frowny-faced foxes, bears, chipmunks, skunks, and other cute critters roaming around in January.

FurCon plans to allow real fur to be sold in its Dealers’ Room and Furry Marketplace, which immediately raises the question “Do ‘fursuiters’—people who love animal characters so much that they adopt their identities—really want to support an industry that skins animals alive?”

Since we’re pretty sure the answer to that question is “No,” PETA has written to convention organizers asking them to implement a permanent fur-free policy—for the animals’ sake.

Furries: As the old saying goes, “When the fur flies—ditch it!” OK, maybe I made that up, but it has a nice ring, doesn’t it?

BMWwolf, furcons are about art, music, fursuiters, etc. Not about “loving and respecting animals.” If you don’t like real fur, that’s great, but loving and respecting animals isn’t what the fandom is about. Some furries love taxidermy. Doesn’t mean they hate animals or wear it as a fursuit.

  • BMWwolf says:

I don’t understand how a major fur con like Further Confusion could be okay with selling real fur, the point of fur cons is that we all love and respect animals. I am trying to get a fursuit but I never want even a tiny bit a real fur to be used to make it.

Furries literally use faux fur which is made of synthetic materials. Get your facts straight next time PETA.

In response to Bill I think that every one has a right to stand up for their beliefs no matter their lifestyles. Let’s not use the Peta Files to make personal stabs at eachother.

  • Bill says:

Which is why you will never be laid by anyone not in a fursuit. Ouch.

  • Hyou says:

    WTF!!!!! That’s horrid! I’m a furry…

  • Bill says:

That was a weak attempt at a fake quote for a PETA cause but for an accurate representation of the furry community replace “ditch” with “f.” But furries have been known to make donations to organizations such as the WWF and similar groups. Maybe some of that money can go towards PETA…?

I am so happy Peta has made this public knowledge!!! I asked Peta for informational literature so that when I go to my next fur con they can know the horrors of the real fur trade and make conscious decisions about where they eat outside of the conventions center! THANK YOU PETA! And thank you Sarah for being a huge help to my plea 3

The only furry I’ve ever seen was the one played by Michael Mcdonald of MAD TV during a “Lillian Verner” game show sketch.

Most furries At least the ones that I know are either Vegan or Vegetarian I’m betting alot of people will be pissed off over this especially when they realize what actually happens to animals on fur farms. It won’t last for very long.
