Feeling Down? You Must Be in Modesto

Written by PETA | April 23, 2009

Forbes magazine recently unveiled its annual list of the country’s top 10 most miserable cities, and the winners losers include Chicago, Illinois; Stockton, California; Memphis, Tennessee; and Modesto, California.

The cities were graded on mood-killing triggers such as traffic, employment loss, crime rate, and, of course, weather. But what about the foods that the residents of these cities eat?

We’re urging folks to turn their frowns upside down by adopting a vegetarian diet, and in Modesto we are pitching our new billboard, which features the message “Put a smile on your face. Go vegetarian.”

Modesto BB

We hope to make life a little easier on animals on factory farms as well as those humans who haven’t realized that meat is a big fat downer.

I live near Modesto and I think I’m the only PETA member that exists in that God-forsaken cow town!

Depending on what part of Arizona you are moving to you may miss the humidity. In some places it gets so hot in the summer if feels as though your skin is literally burning. But oh how beautiful the deserts are in the spring!

I’m surprised Florida isn’t listed. I have lived here for 5 years and it has been 5 years too long. It is a nice place to visit but hell to live too much tourismtraffichumidity and practically no wilderness at all it is all cityoverdeveloped. Moving to Arizona soon thank God.

With the exception of Chicago I have been to all of those cities The headquarters of my church is located in Modesto and I have found that while one cannot always control their enviornment or circumstances one can control how one reacts to them. One could be standing in the middle of Disneyland and be miserable. If you choose to be positive you will be. If you choose to be miserable you will be. I choose to be positive.

I’m from Chicago and I’m not miserable! Well okay I actually live in a suburb north to Chicago but it’s within a train ride’s distance. Oh and train riding save the environment and animals FTW!

  • Brien Comerford says:

I was raised in Chicago and now live a few miles north of it. Chicago does have too much violent crime but we have a very green Mayor and several great vegetarian eateries including the Chicago Diner and Soul Vegetarian East !

If it was Canadian Winnipeg would be number one for miserable city.
