Disruption at Alexander McQueen Fashion Show

During a rare Alexander McQueen fashion show in New York last night, the designer (whose intentional use of fox heads and bird skulls has been called “desperate” by PETA’s president) got more than he bargained for. In the middle of the show, two PETA members with blood-red paint covering their hands leapt onto the catwalk and displayed signs reading, “Fur on your back, blood on your hands,” before being tackled by security guards and dragged off the stage. As PETA President Ingrid Newkirk puts it,

“McQueen’s macabre designs might be intended to titillate, but they simply nauseate. There is nothing remotely ‘fashionable’ about the torture and death of animals killed for something that a caveperson would wear.”

Hopefully this will serve as a message to McQueen and others who condone the torture of animals for their designs that compassionate people will not continue to indulge their cruel fetishes, and that their archaic sense of what’s “fashionable” will soon be little more than an ugly footnote in the history books. That, or they’ll obliviously keep it up until some legislator has the good sense to ban fur farming for good and put them out of business. Whichever comes sooner is fine with me.

I’ll update this entry with more info as this story develops.

Alexander McQueen is by far one of the best designers of all time.  Also, i think people should watch what they say like saying “he” when he isn’t even living at the moment sadly. I do think that using fur is wrong but i think that doing all of these idiotic jump-outs on stage isn’t going to do ****. I like what PETA’s trying to stop.

  • Miss Possible says:

This goes towards Katrina. Uh, real fur is understandable but you don’t even approve of fake fur? Wow. “I don’t get why people keep saying its ok to use fake fur cause its not!!! Its the same concept as using real fur and its very harmful to the environment to make. Why can’t people just not use fur???” You wanna talk about environment huh. There is not ONE thing you can do to avoid hurting the “environment”. If you care about the environment so much you shouldn’t use plastic anything. In fact, you should move OUT of your house and go live in a cave because that very spot you live in used to be a part of the “rainforest” Why are you living there knowing that because of your damn house, trees can’t grow right there huh? Mother nature needs those trees to stay cool. Seriously, you’re being dumb. I’m sure there are a billion things you do that other ppl don’t approve of, but you know what, you do it because it makes you who you are. Real fur = Killing off animals? Understandable. But fake fur is a nono too? Shutup.

fashion is a farce how does it make society a better place. it objectifies an ridicules the masses making everyone want to be the same and pillory the different

  • Katrina says:

I don’t get why people keep saying its ok to use fake fur cause its not!!! Its the same concept as using real fur and its very harmful to the environment to make. Why can’t people just not use fur??? People who use any type of fur are weak and insecure they obviously dont feel comfortable with who they are. And the real truth is that no excuses can be made for those who know how animals are killed when they are skinned but promote it anyway. Why do we have to be so materialistic as a race?? Where the hell have all the morals gone??? Using fur is unacceptable and for those who use it I wouldnt piss on them if they were on fire.

  • Christiane Savard says:

    just buy Stella McCartney.

  • Beau says:

Alexander McQueen is the most genius fashion designer in the buisiness. you people neglect to see the real animal haters. MCQUEEN IS A SMALL TIME DESIGNER he is progressing from edgy to classy and is using less fur than ever. if you want to make a difference dont go after this obscure genius. go after the soulless corporate ones such as Dolce and Gabbana who use far more fur in their shows AND will sell more product and in return kill more animals. or maybe you just didnt want to see the real truth.

  • Ellen E. says:

Saying Alexander McQueen has no creative talent is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. He is widely regarded as the best designer there is. I think you need to know your enemy if you really want to change the industry. If you use language that is so polarised of course designers will ignore you. I know it is an emotional subject but saying Alexander McQueen is a crap designer isn’t the way to go. Of course he will become more rebellious if that is all he hears from the antifur lobby not forgetting a lot of hate. Actually this designer likes birdwatching. btw I don’t think designers should use real fur.

  • Mistii says:

MARC BY MARC JACOBS COLLECTION FTW. AT LEAST I SEE NO FUR IN THE CLOTHING COLLECTION!!!!!

  • Marestela says:

Ohhh my God!!! I went to this animal murderer site and I saw his winter collection. How many poor foxes were anally electrocuted because of his 100 fur collection. Alexander McQueen is incapable of creating fashion without fox fur leather or silk. That’s not innovation at all.

  • Mike Quinoa says:

Kate there’s no hate here. Maybe Alexander just doesn’t understand what fur animals go through. If he does and he continues to use fur his lack of compassion would negate any artistic skill he has in my opinion. As far as his show being ruined being anally electrocuted sort of takes the glow off your day too.

  • Pamela L. says:

Alexander McQueen and his staff and associates need to get to a fur farm and witness the nightmarish horror fear and barbaric terror these helpless voiceless precious animals endure it is what is there daily existence. If McQueen is not affected by what he sees’ and still wants to profit from this living hell he can only be described as a monster who will ALWAYS have blood on his hands.

  • Amber Falobas says:

come on!! they needa stop using fur!!

  • Rose Corletto. says:

That MF…ER I TRULY WISH HE WAS SKINED ALIVE AND SOMEONE MADE A FILTHY RUG OUT OF HIS STINKY FLESH.AND THOSE MODELS WHO WOULD LITERALY WEAR FECES .HOW PATHETIC KNOWING WERE THIS FUR COMES FROM HOW HORRIBLE POOR LITTLE ANIMALS THIS IS SO UNFAIR !IS JUST SUCKS..

  • Kate says:

Ok I am in the fashion industry and I love McQueen. I think how they get fur is awful. But I think doing that during a fashion show is a little kind of crazy. I know I am going to get a lot of hate from this but its just what I think. And just because a designer uses fur does not make them a bad designer. McQueen is a great designer and has some very nice pieces. I may not like that he uses real fur but I am not going to go ruin his show during fashion week because of it.

  • tyler says:

    I love you nicole!!!

  • Tamara says:

I still want to know wtf you can do with a bird skull that is “fashionable”??

  • Frances Peà says:

I agree with PETA president Ingrid having made strike at its gateway are using fur in their design should shame them should know that these animals feel pain and suffering must be put in place to see if they would like to use their skin to make clothes. I will not buy their designs and I will run on my voice in my country you should stop using fur. Frances Pea 16 years Puerto Rico

  • Lauren says:

okay i love fashion alot but real fur is pathetic and thats disgusting ug

  • outrages says:

THE BARBARIC HUMAN RACE AT WORK. WONDER WHY THEY CALL THIS HELL CAUSE IT IS FUR IS BARBARIC AND ID LIKE TO SEE THE SAME DONE TO THE “HUMANS” WHO DO THIS….POETIC JUSTICE WOULD NOT EVEN MAKE A DENT…. SUFFER LIKE THE ANIMALS YOU SLAUGHTERED…. ANYLESS THAN THAT WOULD NOT BE JUSTICE

  • Tamara says:

BIRD SKULLS??? WTF can you do with a bird skull that is “fashionable”??? Seriously…

  • lynda downie says:

This just makes me so angry. The real fur owners are brutally killed and this designer and his models flaunt their indifference to their suffering.

  • Wes says:

Does anyone know where a video of this is?

  • John Carmody says:

    VERY nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mike Quinoa says:

He’s obviously a notalent loser who relies on shock value to mask the fact that he has no real creativity.

  • Mark says:

Wonderful! Congratulations to those who did it! Not to be picky but I hope the websites were printed big and clear on the signs remember that’s the most effective thing. Have you ever considered signs with big photos of animals on fur farms or in traps? The signs at Ringling demos have huge photos and they show up well in photos and videos of the signs. What about slogans with very brief facts about the treatment of animals? I’ve always wondered why that isn’t done because most people don’t know that the animals suffer on the “raches” so the other slogans have little meaning. Does anyone know why PETA doesn’t have slogans about the treatment of animals at things like runway takeovers?

  • Jaclyn says:

I’ve never heard of Alexander McQueen. Fox heads and bird skulls??????

  • Susannah Sulzman says:

I can’t understand why top designers STILL use fur in their designs when fake fur can be used. I don’t know maybe it’s supposed to be a status symbol or something but it’s just cruel and wrongheaded to take a life for such a frivolous and stupid reason. If people just wouldn’t buy their products these designers would stop quickly enough!

  • kelly says:

Alexander McQueen has no vision. No one notices his empty designs so he desperately tries to replace creativity with notoriety. It is time for the younger generations to take over fashion and give it life again!!

  • Kenady says:

ugh.. I love fashion but it makes me wanna gag when people were real fur. I mean what the point of killing defensles animals when we have fake fur its really sad. and i though marylin manson was a good guy i guess i was wrong
