Burberry Protest!

Written by PETA | November 21, 2006

Burberry, still reeling from PETA UK’s little visit to their London store last week, got another unpleasant surprise this afternoon when four activists showed up at their 57th Street store in New York. Here’s how it went down, according to one of the campaigners who was there:

Two activists went in the store with posters while 2 more waited outside with their bloody fur coats inside out and tucked under their arms. The 2 activists inside were picked up by security (literally) and removed from the store, but not before one activist managed to get inside the Burberry store window and start spreading fake blood all over…

Meanwhile, on the outside, the protesters spread fake blood all over the window display, summed up the finer points of the fur issue for passersby with chants like “Burberry tortures animals!” and (for the visual learners in the crowd) used TVs strapped to their bodies to show footage of animals being skinned alive for their fur. Check it out:

  • Mike says:

Thats horrible all they did was make a mess on the shop windows for somebody else to clean up who most likely doesnt even shop at Burberry. Isnt it possible to share your thoughts and oppinions without disrespecting other people and their property?

  • Vera says:

It’s great the work u guys do i recently find out 4 real about what u do….i used to hear about u but i never got interested untill i saw a couple of videos of a fur farm in china…it was awful that was like 4 days ago and i’ve decided to go veg…u guys really changed my life…

  • Michael says:

Keep it up PETA.Sooner or later Burberry will go out of bussiness.Espically with that petition.

  • Alex Cardinale says:

SHOW THOSE CRUEL IDIOTS WHAT THEY ARE DOING IS WRONG!! YOU GO!! THEY ARE INSENSITIVE LOSERS MAKING CLOTHING FROM FURS FROM TORTURED RACOONS. BURBERRY IS FOR DUMB LOSERS WHO ONLY CARE ABOUT THEIR LOOKS AND NOT ABOUT ANIMALS!!

  • sarah says:

I do believe that cruelty to animals is wrong but i believe what PETA done with this protest is also very wrong. If you want to protest fine but why do you have to go to the extremes of smeering fake blood everywhere?? Instead of making a point to these people they now think you are idiots the people in the store that had to clear up the fake blood think your idiots and yes you will cause attention to the cause but in completely the wrong way and show PETA as a company that supports vadolism. Well done guys!! Did no one stop to think of protesting at head offices with banners would cause just as much attention is vadalism really the answer in this case?

  • Jackie says:

PETA GOOD JOB!!! I SUPPORT EVERYTHING YALL ARE DOING TO STOP THIS CRUELTY IN CHINA! CHINA IS SCREWED UP!!! PEOPLE STOP BUYING FUR!!! ITS TORTURE!!! CHINESE PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT THIS ARE MENTALLY MESSED UP!! THEY NEED HELP!!

  • Anonymous says:

WHAT THOSE PEOPLE ARE DOING IS RIGHT!! DOES ANIMALS HAVE NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG TO US.

  • Chelsea says:

I think it is important to care about the safety and well being of animals but I also think its a matter of supply and demand. If all the companies who currently use fur stopped they would really lose alot of business. In my opinion it is not the companies you should be attacking its the people who are buying the products.

  • aa says:

I love burberry. You guys are gay and criminals.

  • Christina. North says:

PETA is so gay!!!!!!!! u guys have no earthly clue how stupid u r. protesting is only gunna get ur butt in jail and im just gunna keep laughin!!!!

  • CAROLINE says:

WE CAN ALL HOPE A DAY COMES WHEN HUMANS REALIZE THE DEVILISH CRUELTY WITH WHICH THEY HAVE BEEN TREATING ANIMALS FOR CENTURIES. WE NEED MORE ACTIVE PROTESTS LIKE THIS AS IT WILL OPEN PEOPLES’EYES AND MAKE THEM REALIZE THE WRONG DOING THAT HAS BEEN METED OUT TOWARDS ANIMALS FOR AGES. JESUS CHRIST!!!I STILL CANT BELIEVE SOMEBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WILL ACTUALLY WEAR FUR! GOD BLESS PETA AND ALL THE ANIMAL LOVERS AROUND THE WORLD. CAROLINE

  • Evil Walnut says:

Hasn’t anyone ever considered a tactful approach? It is profoundly primative to interrupt someone’s workplace in efforts to make a statement.

  • suchitra.krishna says:

GREAT JOB GUYS!!!U HAVE ALSO MADE OTHER PEOPLE UNDERSTAND HOW BRUTALLY ANIMALS ARE KILLED FOR FUR.KEEP IT UP.WE LOVE U ALL.MAY GOD BLESS U!!!!

  • Diane Moore says:

Burberry doesn’t seem to use as much fur in its collections as other upscale brands. Smearing bloodpaintwhatever all over the place is probably actionable trespassing and criminal damage to private property.

  • Melody says:

Wow Great job! Educating the masses is our only way to stop such madness!

  • voice of reason says:

    get a job fuckin hippies.

  • paul says:

In regards to a previous comment… made by Kb. Although I’ve been following PETA for a short time I agree with you that some acts by PETA may be seen as extreme and even illegal but when PETA does try to pursue other avenues in order to bring changes nothing hardly ever does. Sometimes in a world of silence some people need to speak out and shout for those that can’t.

  • marta says:

    thanks you from spain

  • Alisa says:

I will support and praise you for the wonderful work you are doing!!! Keep protesting for a good cause!!!

  • chelsey says:

Its great that activists are taking initative to expose the cruelty that happens to innocent animals. Anybody that supports this has no values what so ever. Fur is for greedy people who have no regard or respect for life its self and do not deserve it.

  • Amber Mcmahan says:

Congrats on the great strides you’ve made for stopping this animal cruelty

  • Suzann says:

heyyy! keep on protesting! it’s the only way to make them stop the torture their putting these animals through! skinning animals is like skinning people for their skin! and we can only do that if the humans agree to allow their skin to be used for burn victims. so why are we killing animals so you can look like crap in your stupid little fur outfits anyways?? thanks. bye

  • Flavia says:

I wish I was there to help you scream!!!! People need to realize animals are not here to serve us GREAT JOB!!!!

  • Victoria & Nikki says:

GO PETA!! GO PETA!! GO PETA!! POOP ON YOU BURBERRY! 33 Victoria Nikki

  • Katy says:

I think it’s great that you guys are protesting Burberry. I had no idea that plaid could be or was made from animal fur! Unfortunatly I think it would be best it you would protest more peacefully. if you make people angry by making them clean up fake blood etc they will be more likely to be against your cause from spite than to really listen to the issues that need to be addressed. Keep up the good work but try to win over supporters of the cause not turn them away!

  • Brittany says:

you guys rock.i hope they realize what they put animals through.

  • Vida says:

Good Job I believe that if people know whats going on in fur farms and how animals suffer they will stop buying fur products…..the key is educating people and exposing those who try to cover up or ignor the facts

  • christine says:

amazing job!!! i bet everyone in the store that day got a real idea of what the’yre buying awesome job3

  • Cierra Scott says:

Man people who even hurt animals for fur or for fun your messed up! Ever heard of Fake fur? I mean Please no one will even know the diffrence!

  • Gemma says:

People in the fashion industry are fully aware of the suffering and pain animals are exposed to and it doesn’t stop them. I call it BLOOD MONEY and GREED. Gemma

  • jacob says:

way to gooooooooo peta you show them the animals are just like us

  • Andrew says:

Thank you for standing up for those who don’t have a voice. Let’s stop the cruelty.

  • Jordan Dosal says:

I agree that if anyone is willing to hurt animals in the name of fashion has blood on their hands i just cant imagine why people would do this to animals. i mean how would they like it if people skinned you alive to make a human skin coat we all no they wouldnt like it so i jus dont get why they would do it to animals.

  • Anne says:

Great job PETA. I don’t know how your undercover people can bear the heartache of watching animals being tortured for the sake of bringing their abuse out in the open. I can’t watch without crying uncontrollably. Keep up the wonderful work you’re all doing. Hopefully someday people will realize that animals are living breathing feeling loving wonderful beings who have every right to live their lives free from harm.

  • Felicity says:

Well… smearing fake blood all over the windows was a bit extreme… I think people might take these things more seriously if you don’t vandalize property.

  • Liz says:

Sweet!! Way to go PETA! Keep up the good work!

  • nancy says:

good job keep at it shw those idiots what they are buying!!!

  • Stephanie says:

I don’t think I’ve ever cried so much in my entire life. That video completely changed me. Oh dear God how can those monsters do that to those poor animals? What did they ever do to them? That’s so absolutely disgusting. … dear god.

  • Caireann says:

This is great! Keep up the good work. We all have to continue to fight for animals rights.

  • Faustino Alvarez says:

Sin la menor duda ulgun dia pagaremos el terrible dolor que infligimos a nuestros hermanos sin voz. Humanidad sin sentimientos y sin alma. nunca comprar un articulo de Burberry
