The Biggest Winner in Bob Harper’s Life

Written by PETA | June 8, 2010

We were already crushing on The Biggest Loser‘s tough-love trainer Bob Harper after he went vegetarian and then signed on to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s 21-Day Vegan Kickstart program. But we’re in full-on love after learning that Bob adopted his new canine companion from an animal shelter, saying, “It just kills me when people spend money on a dog when there are dogs in shelters waiting for someone to take them,” adding, “I want to tell them, ‘No! Those are puppy mills!'”

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

Kelli rescues aren’t trying to “flip” a dog for profit like some people do with a house. Rescues take dogs from kill shelters before they are euthanized and invest time AND money into every animal. Every rescue I’ve worked with has been in the red at the end of every single year. Consider this Pulling a young adult dog from the kill shelter in NYC $150 Taking the dog to the veterinarian $80 Prescription for medication almost every dog gets kennel cough or a UTI in the shelter $40$70 Food and basic supplies depends on the length the dog is in foster care $40$200 Fee for adoption $200

Most rescues are not trying to swoop into a shelter before you have a chance to take a dog and resell them. The dogs they usually rescue from shelters are about to be euthanized. The rescue is saving the dog from certain death! I don’t understand Kelli’s concern since Bob was able to rescue Karl at a shelter.

Does Bob Harper have his Biggest Looser groups go vegetarian too? Wow that would be fantastic! I’ll check out the show and see…..

It irritates me when these socalled “rescues” beat people to the shelters and then charge far more for the dog they basically resell the dog than what the shelter charges. The “rescues” basically charge what the “breeder” would sell the dog for!!!
