Airline’s Panties in a Bunch

Written by PETA | May 21, 2010

A Sports Illustrated swimsuit model’s image on a plane is OK, but an ad with metal undies is too much? Really, Southwest?

Metal Underwear Ad

Recently, Southwest Airlines rejected this ad saying that it was “too provocative” for their in-flight magazine, “due to the lack of clothing the woman is wearing.” Can I get a ticket to Prudes-ville via Hypocrite City, please? The only thing revealing about this ad is the fact that going vegan is the best thing that you can do for your health, the environment, and animals.

Personally, on my next flight I’d much rather see metal panties with a pertinent message than another passenger wearing sweatpants with the words “Bootylicious” or “Juicy” stamped across the butt.

HUH? They’ve got to be kidding!!!

  • Donna says:

This from an airline who’s flight attendants wore hot pants and boots back in the 70′s.

  • Toby says:

Perhaps the ad was rejected because they don’t want to promote PETA that is afterall a Southwest plane with the model on it… maybe it was a private commission though I don’t know but they don’t seem very conservative. Speaking of conservative it is the American Conservative thing to reject veganism or vegetarianism according to former vice presidential nominee and former halfterm governor of Alaska Palin at least… she speaks for this oldfashioned part of American culture which values Christianity American nationalism European heritage guns meat and a lack of public services the far Right… about 20 of the US. Maybe Southwest is Conservative and not conservative like it claims.

Why are you complaining? It’s no different then your attempts to put your half naked Lettuce Ladies on things.

Get over it southwest … this is a classy ad with a serious message makes more damn sense than Bootylicious !!!!

  • Abi says:

I’m sure their rejection of this ad is due to them not wanting to remind customers about body scans and create reluctance to fly. It would be nice if they were honest about that with you though!

Southwest Airlines … you’ve GOT to be kidding!! I am a very morally conservative public high school teacher of 30 years and have never been accused of being “wild” or “too liberal” … and find this ad not only acceptable but innovative and thoughtprovoking. After all what’s more moral or ethical than respecting all sentient life forms and adopting a vegan lifestyle?
