3 Lives for $2.99

Written by PETA | August 8, 2008

KFC is known to work with suppliers that breed and drug chickens to grow so large that they can’t even walk, cut off baby birds’ sensitive beaks without any painkillers, and drop birds into tanks of scalding-hot water—often while they are still conscious. KFC accepts these cruel practices because they help fill the chain’s buckets of chicken at a cheap price.

To highlight the twisted practices of a company that focuses on its wallets while ignoring animal welfare, we’ve created a series of provocative billboards. “Another Life, Another Dollar,” “3 Lives for $2.99,” and “Cheap Chicken Means Animals Pay a High Price” are just a few of the taglines. Hey, we never said subtlety was our forte.

“64 cents” is confusing when juxtaposed with the line “not worth a dime” and I would suggest when using cost figures in the main line they should always be paired with a unit. I.e. 3 lives for 2.99 64 cents for ???.

  • Alger Liang says:

    OMG!!! there are killing them

  • Wendy says:

Cheap chicken means animals pay a high price. GO VEGAN!!

  • Jessica says:

I like the 3 Lives for $2.99. Life is so cheap to these companies and I would pay 100 times that just to save ONE.

  • random says:

heres the part i find funny its that peta choose kfc to start a fight and all the other companies that do the same is let go if ur gonna protest animal cruelty shouldn’t it be after every last slaughterhouse and company that sells chicken products?

  • Alyssa says:

The first one says it best. Easy to read and right to the point.

  • Tarryn Hammond says:

i think they are all great and should be posted everywhere! i love your work we need you here is australia too!

  • Ania says:

I like the “to KFC the question “what is a life worth” mathes to the answer “64 cents” and the “cost of everything value of nothing”

  • jordann says:

i think the third one is the best. you need to prove a strong point and that gives it straight out there. you are doing great work PETA. i cant wait untill im old enough to make a diference too. im only 14 well at least a bigger difference. lol xxx

  • Tracy says:

I like the 4th one KFC knows the cost of everything the value of nothing the 6th one one life for one dollar how low can you go?

  • mason says:

the 3 lives for 299 $ is great as the others. We should if we were allowed to do so put an add with a human baby going through the same pain..that’s the only thing that could really chock people we do know that they are not sensitive to an animal pain so if hard ways should be used to put this into their stupid headsI’m on it. Keep on doing what you do you are all great at PETA!

  • Kelsey says:

’3 lives for $2.99′ has the strongest message out of all of them. just like to say thanks today was my first day as a vego!

  • Judy says:

I like the 3 Lives for $2.99 ad. Keep up the good work PETA. Thanks for all you do for animals.

  • Sonja BONFILS says:

None of them as far as I’m concerned … because the life of all animals is worthwhile! but to spread the word I’ll choose the last one … because one day they will bluntly “offer” thee “cheap” chicken for nothing!!

  • Cassandra Lou says:

    I like the first one.

  • Danielle Martin says:

    3 for 2.99 I think…

  • Rachel says:

I like the one that says “KFC knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.” Those people are honestly pathetic that they could kill chickens without flinching or feeling any guilt at all. It makes me sick. And the fact that they don’t use anything to put the chickens to sleep or to make it painless as possible is disgusting.

  • MaryAnn Smith says:

I think the 3 Lives for $2.99 made the most impact but I thank you for everything you do!

  • Manan says:

    Number 3 is best

  • Larry Mayfield says:

One life for $1 is my favorite. So sad that we could stoop so low as a society all in the name profit.

  • Kat says:

I like the How Low Can You Go and the 64 cent question ones…tie!!!

  • Meagan ryan says:

    I like 1 the best!

  • Asphodel says:

I like the “Whats a life worth? At KFC…” one. That rules.

  • Elaine Vigneault says:

I vote for the second one “Cheap chicken means animals pay a high price” But I’d rather see one that said “Chickens lives are worth more. Go vegan.”

  • vegancoin says:

cheap chicken means animals pay a high price

  • dIANA says:

I like the one that says that KFC does not know the value of anything!… Cruelty cannot be excused by ignorance or demand!!

  • Heather Henson says:

I LOVE ALL OF THEM WHERE CAN I GET ONE TO HANG ON MY DESK AT WORK? LOVE IT

  • Lucas says:

I think personally ”What’s a life worth?” is the best one. It is extremely direct and can easily touch someone maybe disgust them but as you said subtlelity is not our forte. haha. I would go more for that one… Very strong. Congratulations and good job PETA!!!

  • Kelly G says:

Well first I would like to say that I dislike the gruesome image of the chicken’s head. Although it certainly catches one’s eye many people especially those who haven’t yet “seen the light” of vegetarianism find it disgusting. Such a rash display can turn people off to your message no matter how just the cause you are representing is. A good alternative might be a live chicken or some live chicks in a KFC bucket or simply on the sticker. It would be eyecatching and help the public connect living creatures with the deepfried body parts they usually see at the restaurant. It would also help spread PETA’s message of nonviolence a definite plus. Reguardless I do like the line “KFC knows he cost of everything… and the value of nothing.” It really packs a punch and carries my favorite message life is valuable. In my mind this awareness is the difference between animal rights activists like myself and those who know about KFC’s doings but continue to support this heinous industry.

  • Maler says:

All of them are great! But i haven’t seen any of them advertised anywhere before ….Why don’t you guys put these signs up near KFC chains? Not much use if it’s only on peta’s website where only people who are already animal lovers see it.

  • kailah says:

i really dig these i think they do a great job of getting a strong message out there

  • elena tripatzi says:

    I prefer the second one

  • Vanessa says:

I like the “.64 cent question” and the “cost of everything value of nothing”. All of the billlboards are very good but those two stuck out. The chicken head is a little disturbing it would certainly make me lose my apetite if I were a KFC consumer.

  • Christine says:

    3 Lives for 2.99

  • emily says:

Like the 1st and last one straight to the point

  • Joy Klankert says:

Cheap chicken means that animals pay a high price.

  • Leigh says:

Number 3. Because it brings out KFC’s lack of concern for the welfare of the Chickens. All meatfoods cost animal lives but KFC is particularly vile because they condone such terrible practices so ad 3 brings that out.

  • rob garcia says:

i like all of them…do you happen to have a myspace code???this would be good for any one who wants to post them and inspire people to help stop this cruelty…..CURSE KFC ALL THE WAY!!!

  • Alex says:

I like the 3 lives for $2.99 one best. I think it would be the most effective one. Thanks to Peta I stopped eating at KFC over a year ago.

  • Dixie says:

    I think 1 2 And 4 are brilliant thanks!!!!!

  • Fawn says:

The 1st 2nd and 5th I think would be the best at getting the main point across quickly and effectively to the ordinary passer by
