• A Little Bird Told Us … Hollywood Gossip

    Written by PETA

Whoa! Joey Lawrence rescued a dog from a local animal shelter while filming in Australia. He called his new family member "the most amazing little thing ever." Another shelter dog—a pit bull who was rescued from a trash chute—has inspired Newark Mayor Cory Booker to build a new state-of-the-art animal shelter. And to further fight cruelty to animals, the mayor's also a vegetarian.

The Rev. Al Sharpton has made the heavenly decision to cut meat almost completely out of his diet too. And Lady Gaga will have to cut meat out of her wardrobe when she performs for Bill Clinton at the Hollywood Bowl tomorrow. The former pres told David Letterman, "In deference to my diet, she'll be meatless that night."

Speaking of cruelty-free garb, The Veronicas sent flowers to Australian designer Rachel Gilbert to thank her for ditching fur.

And just check out what these compassionate celebs had to say to their Twitter followers:

  • Celebrities Tweet Seals Right

    Written by PETA

Celebrities took to Twitter yesterday to make a huge splash for seals. We asked compassionate celebrity supporters to tweet a message to their fans telling them that the Canadian commercial seal slaughter had begun and including a link to our "It's Time to End the Seal Slaughter" donation page. So many of them responded that our Twitter page looked like an A-list party.

Supporters who spoke up for seals who are bludgeoned and sometimes skinned alive for their fur include Ellen Degeneres, who also posted it on her blog, Pink, Sophia BushDaniella Monet, Jayde Nicole, Lea Michele, Vida GuerraAlicia SilverstoneDave Navarro, Stephanie Pratt, The Veronicas, Bill Maher, Ian SomerhalderDiablo Cody, Sasha Grey, and, of course, Honorary PETA Director Pamela Anderson.

Get in on the action! Tweet this link to your Twitter followers: http://bit.ly/gNMLOJ. Or go to our donation page to help stop Canada's barbaric seal slaughter.

  • Vote for Your Favorite Anti-Fur Ad

    Written by PETA

They're graphic, grotesque, and downright ghastly—and I just can't get enough of them. I'm talking about PETA's "Here's the Rest of Your Fur Coat" anti-fur ads. This is my favorite series of ads—after all, nothing says fur gorement quite like the bloody remains of a skinned fox. That's why I was super psyched to see a brand-new one starring The Veronicas.

These awesome Aussie pop sensations join Persia White, Shirley Manson, and Sophie Ellis-Bextor, who all posed for similar ads in order to expose the cruel treatment of animals raised on fur farms, where rabbits, minks, foxes, and other animals are crammed into tiny, filthy cages. Many of them are skinned alive, and some remain alive for up to 10 minutes after they've been skinned. Rabbits, who are timid and gentle animals, are pulled out of cages by their ears and shot in the head with handheld electrical devices—often multiple times—causing them to scream like human babies.

Like I said—graphic, grotesque, and downright ghastly. Speaking of which, how about telling us which of the ads in this in-your-face series is your fave? Cast your vote in the poll at the bottom of this post.

    The Veronicas

We were blown away when we read that Jess Origliasso, one-half of the gorgeous pop duo The Veronicas, feels the way she does about the nasty fur trade.

Not only is Jess fur-free, but she certainly ain't shy about lettin' the world know it. She told Confidential, "Death for these animals is a horror story—the most common method used for killing foxes is electrocution. I can't speak for Lisa [her twin and bandmate], but I admire the approach to the eye-catching photo shoots PETA [does] to get the important message out there." Wow! Well-worded, and thanks for the shout-out!

She's so bold with her animal rights message that she's even worn a faux fur jacket that reads "F*** Fur." In-your-face sass like this makes her fans set down their soy mochas, snap their necks, and say "Daaaaaang!" at how fly this girl is.
