• A Little Bird Told Us … Hollywood Gossip (3/9/12)

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

The world has fallen for Lea Michele, but the lovely songbird uses her popularity to help stop cruelty to animals. Lea and PETA scored a spot on Teen.com's list of the "Top 5 Celebrity Charities You Should Support." (We also noticed our buddy Justin Bieber on the list.)

Joining Lea in the crusade to get horses off New York City's congested streets is Smash star Anjelica Huston, who asked the City Council to replace horse-drawn carriages with eco-friendly classic cars. Anjelica's Smash co-star Debra Messing also tweeted her support.

Rescued-dog fan Miley Cyrus is using Twitter to urge Khloe Kardashian to adopt, not buy. After Khloe tweeted that she was ready to share her life with a dog, Miley responded that she would love to help Khloe find a rescue, and Khloe kindly accepted! PETA jumped in to help, too, tweeting Khloe a link to a wonderful open-admission shelter in Dallas. Perhaps we'll be seeing the new addition to Khloe's family on an upcoming episode of Khloe & Lamar

Flip the dial to NBC to catch Wilmer Valderrama's new show, Awake. Before Wilmer was exposing secrets as a detective, he was exposing circuses' cruelty to animals. We know Ringling won't be popping up in any Awake episodes.

  • What's Kim Kardashian's Body Count?

    Written by Heather Faraid Drennan

Unless you live in a sensory deprivation chamber, you probably get queasy at the mere mention of Kim Kardashian. But wait! PETA's new billboard should give the reality TV star a much-needed reality check—at least when it comes to her furry wardrobe, which often features the pelts of animals as dead as her brief marriage.

We've contacted Kim several times about the notorious cruelty of the fur industry, in which animals on factory fur farms are kept in tiny wire cages in all weather extremes and are genitally electrocuted and even skinned alive. In fact, Kim's compassionate sister, Khloe Kardashian, posed naked for a PETA anti-fur ad and kindly showed fur-farm video footage on Keeping Up With the Kardashians. But the hardest thing to keep up with is the number of carcasses that Kim wears.

Hopefully, our arresting billboard on Beverly Boulevard in West Hollywood will inspire the entire Kardashian klan and other shoppers to follow Khloe's example and leave fur off their holiday lists.

When Kim is ready to put an end to her much-publicized relationship with fur, PETA will be happy to take her discards and donate them to the homeless. She can even help us pass them out! I'm sure there's an E! special in there somewhere.

You can get in on the action, too—donate your furs to PETA today.

This whale of a tale is true: Dolphin activist Hayden Panettiere traveled to the White House to thank President Obama for asking Iceland to ban hunting whales and exporting their meat. Fellow ocean-animal advocates Richard Branson and basketball legend Yao Ming are calling for a ban on shark-fin soup in China, where 95 percent of the cruel fare is served.

Yao Ming isn't the only athlete taking action for animals. After being vegetarian for four years, Toronto Maple Leaf Mike Zigomanis has gone vegan as part of his effort to become healthier, stronger, and a better player.

Congratulations to glowing vegan mom Emily Deschanel, who gave birth last week to her first child, son Henry Hornsby. A rockin' congrats also goes out to the inimitable Joan Jett for her well-deserved Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination. She loves rock and roll … as well as chickens, cows, seals, pigs, elephants, and rabbits.

Another award we couldn't help but crack a smile about—furry Kim Kardashian was voted the most annoying celebrity. Maybe kind sis Khloe can teach her how to be more popular.

Speaking of popular—Ellen DeGeneres, Bill Maher, and other celebs helped make PETA's White House spay-and-neuter petition one of the first to reach 5,000 signatures and go to the president for review by tweeting about the dog and cat homelessness crisis. You can join Ellen, Bill, and many others in sending a strong message about the importance of spaying and neutering by signing the petition too.

  • A Fauxbulous Kardashian Wedding Gift

    Written by PETA

The wedding of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries is sure to be a lavish affair, so PETA sent the bride and groom an equally lavish gift: a luxurious faux fur throw donated by Donna Salyers' Fabulous-Furs.

It's no secret that Kim has a penchant for wearing fur, but we're hoping that this elegant velvet-lined throw—the same style that is used at premier resorts—will help convince the future Ms. Humphries to say "I do!" to being kind to animals. If Kim follows in her little sis Khloe's  footsteps and dons Donna's luxurious faux furs, she'll join other Fabulous-Furs customers like Kate Moss, Brooklyn Decker, Ice-T and Coco, and Aretha Franklin in saving animals from being bludgeoned, anally and vaginally electrocuted, and skinned alive. Here's hoping that Kim will ditch fur for good and always choose compassion over cruelty.

  • Want to See More of Khloe Kardashian?

    Written by PETA

Long before she accidentally gave viewers an eyeful on "Fox & Friends," Khloe Kardashian was a friend to foxes. When she saw with her own eyes how foxes and other animals are bludgeoned, electrocuted, and sometimes skinned alive for their fur, she purposefully bared her skin to save theirs.

Khloe is reportedly amused by all the attention the TV appearance is getting, and we're pretty sure she's thinking, "I'd much rather go naked on Fox than wear a fox."

With Mason's dashing arrival and our fave fauxvocative sister becoming Mrs. Lamar Odom, the Kardashian clan has been busy. But on last night's episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kim's storyline went beyond her on-again sparks with Reggie Bush and made dog lovers everywhere give her "two paws up." Kim found an abandoned Chihuahua outside a nail salon, named her Princess, and took her in. She then brought Princess to a vet who performed lifesaving uterine surgery and whose assistant eventually adopted her. Kim was so moved by the experience that she even went back to volunteer at the pound where she first brought Princess. Aww! Maybe this experience (and some help from lil' sis Khloe) will be enough to convince her to star in our "Be an Angel for Animals" ad campaign?

  • Tila Tequila Loves to Fake It

    Written by PETA

Our friends over at globalGrind have given Tila Tequila a place to speak her mind, and the Queen of MySpace has some harsh words for animal abusers.

    Tila Tequila

Titling her post "Killing Animals is F**ING Wrong … It's That Simple," she's giving raccoons, bunnies, foxes, and all animals killed for fur a shout-out:

I don't know who those people are that have it in their hearts to skin an animal while [he or she] is still alive, but I hope that by promoting fur alternatives I'm doing my part to stop that needless suffering. You will never see me wearing a fur, and if you do, rest assured it's FAKE. If you love animals, you cannot justify wearing them. It's that simple. Remember, hot girls fake it … for the animals. I should know, cause I'm hot. Lol.

Yes, Tila, you are hot! And your heart of gold makes you even sexier (if that's possible). I would like to be the first to officially suggest that the charity work you are considering should include joining other sexy celebs such as Eva Mendes and Khloe Kardashian and using what your momma gave ya to rock our "Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" campaign.

  • Khloe Kardashian: 'Keeping Up' With Fur-Free Fabulosity

    Khloe Kardashian

Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Celebrity Apprentice star Khloe Kardashian brought in some reality-TV gold last night. Not only did she manage to escape getting fired in Trump's board room for the fourth week in a row, she also, on her popular E! series, brought some much needed attention to animals raised for fur.

I'm sure you all remember Khloe's sexy ad, which we unveiled not too long ago. Well, on Keeping Up last night, she really went above and beyond by showing—on national television—the gruesome and heartbreaking video footage that caused her to go fur-free. Hopefully, many of the millions of people watching were touched and inspired to make the same compassionate choice. After seeing a fully conscious animal having his or her skin ripped off, it's hard to sport that fur coat.

On the show, Khloe admitted that she had a hard time stripping down for the ad because of insecurity about her body. When you're tall and curvy and from a family full of petite models, that's definitely understandable. But lucky for us, animals, and the rest of the world, she laid her insecurities to rest and rocked the you-know-what out of the shoot. She summed it up best at the end of the episode when she said of the shoot, "It really helped me be comfortable in my own skin. In turn, I really hope this helps animals keep their skin."
