April Fool us once, shame on you. April Fool us twice, shame on us. April Fool us thrice, and, well, we've totally got a list in the works! This year, PETA's been the object of April Fools' pranks galore, and now, in honor of our own rat-rabbit hybrid hoax, we're counting down our five favorite fools-on-us:

5. PETA joins forces with the WWF to battle tooth lice—hey, it's a "worldwide oral hygiene crisis"!
4. We don't care whether you call them slankets, snuggies, or snuggles—though our favorite is of course our own snuggle blanket—but if anyone started using fur to make wearable blankets, we'd be campaigning against it faster than Liz Lemon fell in love with her slanket.

3. Sure, "sexpert" Sue Johanson's claim that "Vegetarians—vegans who only eat fruits and vegetables—their ejaculate is sweet and nut-like, whereas males who eat meat, their ejaculate tastes bitter, like burnt leather," is a few years old, but that didn't stop the folks at SuperVegan from turning the classic clip into an April Fools' joke that had me thinking that the American Meat Institute really was serving Johanson with a lawsuit and that PETA Vice President Dan Mathews was leaping to her defense.
2. True: Glenn Beck admires PETA for our consistency and steadfastness. False: Glenn Beck has actually joined PETA—though we would totally welcome him with open arms!
1. Thought rat-rabbit hybrids would've caused an epidemic of cuteness around the country? Well, folks, here's the not-so-cute side of April Fools'-related genetic engineering: cows who bite back! Grass- and blood-fed cattle? Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Fox News host Glenn Beck may not be ready to sign PETA's "Pledge to Be Veg" just yet, but that didn't stop him from dishing up some choice words about Al Gore's continued, convenient omission of any mention of the meat industry's devastating impact on the environment.

"… I am siding with PETA on this one—once again asking Al Gore, 'If you really want to save the planet, put down the cheeseburgers and pick up the veggie burgers. Time for soy milk and Tofurky.' … I've said before I disagree with PETA, but I respect them because they are not hypocrites: They say what they mean and mean what they say. I just disagree with what they say—except when it calls for Al Gore to eat tofu."

Makes me wanna send Mr. Beck some vegan chocolate kisses.

Folks, trying to clean up the environment without going vegan is like trying to mask the smell of rotting garbage by hanging 100 fragrance trees from the ceiling. It doesn't work. The only way to get rid of the stink and cruelty to animals is to change what you put on your plate.

The Internet was ablaze yesterday with "did he or didn't he" talk about Wednesday's episode of The Glenn Beck Program, in which Glenn Beck appeared to boil a frog alive on national television. Was the frog fake? Did Beck actually throw a real frog into a pot? Who would do something like that?

Given that Glenn has a history of showing compassion toward animals, we were sure that he would not throw a defenseless frog into a boiling pot of water. But because enough people were fooled by his prank, we asked him to make a statement on his show explaining that it was a ruse.

And last night, in a segment he called "Frog-Gate 2009," (a possible shout-out to "Flygate"?) Glenn Beck did just that—he replayed the whole segment, read our letter to him aloud, and clarified that the frog he appeared to boil alive was just a plastic toy.

Thanks for setting the record straight, Glenn! Now, could we trouble you to have a little talking-to with those real-life frog abusers over at Brookstone …?

When Glenn Beck broke the story of retired Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, whose dog, DASY, was allegedly shot and killed by two men Beck appropriately refers to as "Dirtbag 1" and "Dirtbag 2," PETA's Cruelty Investigations Department leapt into action. PETA immediately offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and, if it proves warranted, the conviction of Michael Edmonds, a fugitive, and one of the men accused of the heinous act.

Shortly after we sent our letter to the Texas Rangers' office, Edmonds reportedly turned himself in. And we're happy to announce that he, along with Alfonso Hernandez, is now facing cruelty charges for DASY's death. We understand that both of these monsters are also under investigation for other animal killings in Walker County, Texas.
