• 'Pretty Little Liar' Tells Truth About Fur

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

Torrey DeVitto has been part of some of Hollywood's best onscreen teams, starring in One Tree Hill, Pretty Little Liars, and Vampire Diaries. But now she's joining Team PETA to help animals in animal shelters find a happy Hollywood ending and to speak out against the cruel fur industry

Torrey's tips for star-like style? Anyone not wearing fur automatically looks better than anyone who is.

And her best advice on being a star for animals? Never be silent. Speak up for animals today by simply tweeting a link to PETA's "Never Be Silent" video

  • Why Is PETA Thanking Kanye?

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

    Yep, you read that right.

We want to thank Kanye West for the shout-out to PETA in his new song, "Theraflu." While the aptly named tune does make us want to reach for an over-the-counter remedy as Kanye opines about his inexplicable penchant for slinging tortured dead animals across his back, the song did make #tellPETA trend on Twitter worldwide, giving us a great opportunity to educate people about the revolting cruelty of the fur industry. #TellKanye that 60 beautiful minks have to die to make one ugly coat.

Compassionate rapper Waka Flocka Flame could give Ye some pointers—his "Only Cowards Abuse Animals" PETA ad appears in this month's YRB magazine. (Last month, the mag featured Chris "The Birdman" Andersen's colorful anti-fur ad.)

The cover of the May issue of Vanity Fair features the fair face of fur foe Grace Park, looking as stunning in white as she did in her PETA "Save the Seals" ad.

Fellow seal savior Christian Serratos tweeted her support for PETA's campaign this week: "The Canadian seal slaughter has begun. Pls help @PETA stop the bloody massacre NOW!"

Mickey Rourke saved a stray dog he found on a movie set in Romania. Now Foxy has a great new home with Rourke and his other beloved pups, including Jaws, who stars with Rourke in his animal birth control ad:

When Pamela Anderson visited Turkey and noticed that the country's streets were also teeming with strays, she went on a mission to persuade officials there to adopt an aggressive spay-and-neuter campaign.

Ryan Gosling was a savior for a woman who was almost hit by a taxi in New York City. His lifesaving heroics for people and advocacy for chickens make Ryan a heartthrob with a heart of gold.

Lance Armstrong seems to be made of steel, and now he's living strong thanks to eating mostly vegan foods.

Maybe he'll start whipping up homemade meals from the Candle Café like Christina Applegate

A vegan eatery led to love for Alec Baldwin, who got engaged this week to Hilaria Thomas, whom he met at Pure Food and Wine.

Christina Aguilera took both her loves—her boyfriend and her son—to Cirque du Soleil, scoring herself a thank-you card from PETA for supporting a circus with only human performers.

  • Flour Power: Kim K Dusted in Fur Protest

    Written by PETA

As Kim Kardashian made her way down the red carpet last night at an event to promote her fragrance, True Reflection, she caught a true reflection of how people feel about her penchant for fur. A woman shouting, "Fur hag!" dumped a bag of flour over Kardashian's head. Check out this video sent to us by an activist immediately afterward:

Maybe this rude awakening will finally prompt Kim to consider how animals are anally electrocuted as well as bludgeoned and skinned alive so that she can drape their pelts across her back. Kim has been sent PETA's fur farm exposé and should know full well the torture that animals endure.

PETA has written polite letters to Kim, erected billboards, and held protests. While we weren't behind the flour delivery, we applaud the animal advocates who were. Hopefully a dusting with flour will cause her to take her head out of the clouds and recognize the blatant cruelty to animals that she promotes.

    Photo of the day:

Wildly popular actor, singer, and writer Annie Yi unveiled her dramatic new anti-fur ad for PETA Asia-Pacific in Beijing this week.

Annie—whose video exposé of the cruelty behind fur has already had more than 200,000 views(!)—is the first Chinese celebrity to tell the public, "I'd rather go naked than wear fur."

  • U.K. Style Writer Slams Kanye Over Fur and Skins

    Written by Jeff Mackey

Writing for the website of the U.K.'s Daily Mail, Liz Jones brilliantly eviscerated bloated bag of ego "musician" Kanye West for his use of animal fur and skins in his Paris Fashion Week show.

Jones reminds readers that astrakhan, West's material of choice, "is the fur of an unborn lamb. Yes, a foetus. The sheep is slaughtered, and the unborn lamb is ripped from her womb, its coat still curly and unformed." Other designs featured crocodile skin and fox fur.

But the best part is when Jones speculates on West's motivation:

Well, for one, he was undoubtedly sponsored, probably by Saga furs, the body that governs and promotes the fur trade in North America.

Second, he has no ideas, or anything new to give us. He doesn't know how to cut a pattern, or construct a seam, or even sew a buttonhole.

But he wants us to think his collection is luxurious, elitist and covetable, so he falls back on the thing that all designers with no imagination or morals fall back on: electrocuting small animals via their vagina or rectum, and often skinning them alive.

    Brava!

This is the worst that Kanye has looked since his disastrous Auto-Tune–free appearance on Saturday Night Live. Or since his charity was caught giving nothing to, well, charity. Or since he gracelessly crashed Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards. Or since … well, you get the idea.

  • Photo: Person Snared in a Steel-Jaw Trap

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

    Photo of the Day

Passersby outside a fur store in Toledo, Ohio, agreed that when the trap is on the other foot, fur looks really gruesome.

As our re-enactor did an excellent job of portraying an animal writhing in agony and trying to escape a lethal steel-jaw trap, the fur store owners stayed hidden inside their shop, without entertaining so much as a single patron.

  • Photo: Fur Out, Love In

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

    PHOTO OF THE DAY

If this "Fur Out, Love In" demonstration brings to mind a John Lennon–Yoko Ono bed-in, why not celebrate Valentine's Day peacefully—without the skins of tortured animals? Imagine all the animals living life in peace …

  • Photo: I See Naked Dead People

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

    PHOTO OF THE DAY

They might be 6 feet under, but they still won't be caught under a pile of pelts. PETA's "corpses" rose from the dead to haunt Orlando's LaBelle Furs (an oxymoron if I ever heard one).

Since the store is near a courthouse, lawyers and litigants came by all day—but no one defended the cruel fur industry. The verdict is in: Fur is out.

  • Photos: Arrested at Sundance

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

    PHOTOS OF THE DAY

PETA "cops" were out in force at the Sundance Film Festival, making arrests for fashion felonies. Anyone wearing wool, leather, exotic skins, or fur saw the light. A flashing blue one, that is.

The crime: Ripping off an animal

    The punishment: A public scolding

The penance: Buying a coat that didn't claim a life
