• Tiger Gets Revenge on Ringmaster

    Written by PETA

What do the tigers say when Ringling's trainers get too close? Let us prey. Zing!

Well, this week, PETA's touring "tiger" acted out that devious desire for payback. In Rochester, New York, our "tiger" broke out of his cage and shoved his "ringmaster" in—giving her a taste of her own medicine for our first-ever Tiger's Revenge demonstration.

When tigers aren't performing, they're warehoused like widgets and kept in cages barely bigger than their own bodies. So, it would be justice indeed for Ringling's trainers to know what that feels like.
    Tiger Demo
Our "tiger" taunted the "ringmaster" with whips, a bullhook, and other cruel devices that trainers use to force tigers and elephants to perform cruel, unnatural tricks.
    Tiger Demo
Local citizens held signs letting passersby know that Ringling beats animals. After talking to us, seeing the video, or reading the materials, many people said that they would never patronize such a cruel industry.

  • Stunning Pro-Seal Protesters' Photos

    Written by PETA

From Los Angeles, California, to Paducah, Kentucky and from Berlin, Germany, to Zagreb, Croatia—all around the world, caring people are taking to the streets to protest against the shameful Canadian seal slaughter. These caring activists are showing Canada that the world will not tolerate this bloody massacre.

We've posted many entries on this blog with photos from across the globe, but that's just a fraction of the pictures that have flooded into our inboxes in recent weeks. We've just set up a gallery on Flickr, so we're no longer limited in the number of photos we can share with you. Check out the slideshow:

Got demo photos of your own that you'd like to share? Why don't you send 'em our way so that we can add them to our Flickr gallery?

Campaigners from PETA and our affiliates have been working their tails off, fearlessly campaigning against McDonald's, protesting KFC, and pumping up the case against bad zoos. Take a look:

The San Antonio Zoo sold giraffes to Michael Jackson and now refuses to help them. Our giraffe friend just wanted you to know that.

  • Seal Slaughter Protests Across Canada

    Written by PETA

Last week, I shared photos of people across the globe speaking up for seals. Fortunately, many Canadians are also standing up to let the world know that they are opposed to the seal slaughter. Check out these demo photos to see what ashamed Canadians are doing to show that they're not all a bunch of barbaric orcs up north.

Those are some seriously smart kids! These young British Columbia residents can probably relate to the baby seals who are being killed, most of whom are less than 4 weeks old.
    British Columbia Demo
They certainly know how to turn heads in London, Ontario.
    London Ontario Demo
Multiply that pile of bloody seal babies by 32,000 and you'll almost have the number of seals who will be killed this year.

Vancouver residents are preparing for the 2010 Olympics by illustrating the bloody horror of the seal slaughter.
    Vancouver Demo
Add some red ice and a grieving mother seal, and you've got yourself a massacre.

  • 'Win It' Wednesday: 'Mutt Like Me' Collar

    Written by PETA

Thanks for all of your wonderful comments on this Win It Wednesday. The winners of the 'Mutt Like Me' collars are christine, Kelli, and Cheri Anderson-Albert. Congratulations!

President Obama has declared that he's a mutt, so why doesn't your mixed-parentage pup do the same? It's easy with this week's "Mutt Like Me" ID tag collar giveaway.

Did you know that millions of homeless animals are euthanized in animal shelters every year? Their deaths could be prevented if people spayed and neutered their animal companions and chose to adopt rather than buying animals from pet stores or breeders. Our "Change a Life: Adopt a Mutt Like Me" ID tag collar will help you and your canine companion get the word out about adoption.

    Mutt Like Me

How do you win? Just leave us a comment describing the mutt(s) that stole your heart. Tell us how Fido or Spot changed your life, and the three most heartfelt answers will win a "Mutt Like Me" ID tag dog collar.

The contest ends on April 22, 2009, and we'll choose three winners on April 24, 2009. Be sure to read our privacy policy and terms and conditions, as you're agreeing to both by commenting. Check back every Wednesday for new prizes. Good luck!

  • The Fight Against the Seal Slaughter Circles the Globe

    Written by PETA

By now, the whole world knows about the horrors of the Canadian seal slaughter. With demonstrations taking place around the world, it's pretty hard not to notice. Our friends in Canada, Germany, and cities across the U.S. have been out on the streets to spread the word. Check out some photos of recent demonstrations, and then visit our Action Center online to find out how you can organize your own protest.

We love LUSH for being cruelty-free, and now we love the cosmetics maker even more for teaming up with Sea Shepherd to save seals.

  • Baseball Park Adds Gargantuan Burger to the Menu

    Fifth Third Burger

After winning us over with its tasty veggie burgers and meatless taco salads (yum!), the West Michigan Whitecaps' Fifth Third Ballpark has held a special place in our hearts. Unfortunately, the newest edition to the Whitecaps' 2009 menu has us reaching for the Pepto-Bismol.

Weighing in at a hefty 4 pounds, the Fifth Third Burger contains a whopping 4,800 calories. Between two 8-inch buns lie five 1/3-pound beef patties and enough fixins' to make even the heartiest eaters clutch their chests in horror: a cup of chili, five slices of American cheese, salsa, nacho cheese, Fritos, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream. And what do you get for finishing this artery-clogging sandwich? A T-shirt.

Well, PETA is challenging anyone who chows down on the Fifth Third Burger to take on a side order of all the resources it took to create the massive meal. Producing just one pound of animal flesh takes 16 pounds of grain and 2,468 gallons of water. You're probably busy gagging over the mere thought of this monstrous burger, so I'll do the math for you: on top of the 4-pound sandwich, you'll be required to shovel in 27 pounds of grain and wash it down with 4,000 gallons of water. Think you can handle it?

For those gourmands who are intent on ingesting several days' worth of food in one sitting, we're asking the Whitecaps to offer the Fifth Third Veggie Burger. Vegetarian burgers don't waste all the valuable resources that meat products do, so they're a guilt-free indulgence for baseball fans who care about animals and the planet.

  • Ronald McDonald Gets What's Coming to Him ...

    Written by PETA

If you've kept up with our campaigns, you're well aware of the horrors of the factory farms and slaughterhouses that supply chickens to greasy fast-food joints such as KFC and McDonald's. After learning about the cruelty that goes into making every "Happy Meal" (more like Unhappy Meal), some PETA members took to the streets to turn the tables on old Ronald.

Check out these photos, and then send a letter to McDonald's and let officials there know that you won't stand for any more McCruelty.

Finally, the chicken gets revenge. He's boiling mad that his brothers were scalded alive.
    McCruelty Demo

So, Ronald, how does it feel to be on the other end of the knife? The chickens aren't too happy about it either.

  • Bolivia Bans Military Abuse of Animals (Historic Victory!)

    Written by PETA

After less than a month of PETA campaigning, the Bolivian minister of defense went on that country's national television to announce an historic ban on all animal abuse in military training exercises, stating that the Bolivian government is issuing Resolution 217 to prohibit all acts of violence, exploitation, and mistreatment that provokes the death of animals. Not only has Bolivia beaten the U.S. military to the punch, this ban is also Bolivia's first military animal protection regulation ever.

This news comes as a direct result of PETA's and PETA Germany's campaigns, which were launched after horrific video footage was uncovered showing the Bolivian military's mutilation and killing of dogs in combat-training exercises. More than 20,000 supporters joined in the effort, including a leading Bolivian congresswoman, Ximena Flores Castro, who talked with PETA and then met with the defense minister in order to get the resolution on the books.

Resolution 217 puts an end to military training exercises in which dogs were mercilessly stabbed to death as they screamed in pain. Not one more animal—dog or otherwise—will have to suffer such a miserable fate at the hands of the Bolivian military. The resolution also includes sanctions for those who violate the regulation.

This is a giant step in the right direction for Bolivia, and we hope to continue working closely with government officials to enact more animal protection laws.

Everyone who spoke out against this cruelty deserves a big pat on the back! Let's keep up the momentum and urge the U.S. military to follow Bolivia's compassionate lead.
