• Chickens Stop Traffic to Stop McCruelty

    Written by PETA

    McCruelty B-ball

Nothing says "all-American" quite like the mass slaughter of animals, right? Um, yeah—didn't think so. These chic-with-a-beak supporters and several other friends to chickens hit the streets outside the McCruelty-sponsored All American Basketball Games during rush hour in Columbus, Ohio, yesterday. They were urging passersby to boycott McDonald's fowl fouls and petition the company to switch to suppliers that use "controlled-atmosphere killing" (CAK), a humane play that would eliminate many of the worst abuses suffered by chickens at slaughter.

People outraged by McCruelty are signing up to host McCruelty demos in their cities, while others are pushing for Ronald's retirement. Which will you choose?

  • 'Foxes' on the Loose in Finland

    Foxes

The temperature may have been well below freezing, but PETA's foxes heated up the bustling streets of Helsinki, the capital of Finland—which has a record of killing more foxes for their fur than almost any other nation. Thanks to Riina Laine's masterful body painting, these ladies were the objects of nonstop attention—and they spread the message that only animals should wear fur.

    Foxes

The easiest—and chicest—way to save a fox (and a dog and a cat and a mink and a—yeah, you get the picture) is to pledge to go fur-free forever.

  • Where's PETA's Seal?

    Written by PETA

Watch out, Waldo—you've got some cute and cuddly competition when it comes to getting lost in a crowd. My new favorite game: Where's PETA's seal?

    Protest for Seals

Yesterday, the Canadian government announced that it is increasing the quota for this year's seal slaughter and projecting a death toll of 388,200 (that's 50,000 more shattered seal skulls than last year). At almost the exact same time, this throng of PETA supporters and friends to seals gathered in Montréal for the International Day of Action for Seals. Bullhorns in hand, they made sure that the Canadian government heard their demand: The massacre of baby seals must end!

Add this compassionate crowd to the more than half a million people who have signed our save-the-seals petition and the result is clear: As long as blood is spilled on the ice floes, the protests will grow.

  • SeaWorld, It's 'Plane' and Simple: 'Free Tilly!'

PETA's forecast for SeaWorld San Antonio—cloudy with a chance of freedom:

    banner

On Saturday, PETA's "Let Orcas Out of Prison" banner flew across the sky while dedicated PETA supporters on the ground spread the word that trainers and animals will continue to get hurt or die until SeaWorld frees the animals to sanctuaries.

    protest

Coastal sanctuaries are the only humane places for the wild animals who are currently used by SeaWorld and other parks and who suffer for years in confined, unnatural conditions. One psychologist has pointed out that Tilikum—the captive orca who killed a SeaWorld trainer—is so traumatized from the shock of his capture, the disruption of his natural development, and his more than 30 years of imprisonment in a concrete pool that if he were human, he would undoubtedly be diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

SeaWorld's continued exploitation of these sensitive animals is nothing more than a callous way to turn a cheap buck. Please don't support it.

  • Victory! KFC Closes for Cruelty

What do you call it when a KFC is "closed for cruelty"? A goreclosure!

    KFC

For more than a year, dedicated animal advocates have been holding monthly demonstrations outside a KFC in North Carolina to spread the word about KFC's tormented chickens—and watching the restaurant's business dwindle. Now, so many people have washed their hands of KFC's blood that the location has recently shut down!

    Rodeo

Shari—an enthusiastic PETA supporter—chatted up tons of rodeo attendees in her community last week about the abuse of animals used in rodeos, in which human performers use electric prods, spurs, and bucking straps to irritate and enrage bulls, horses, and other unwilling "costars" into participating in the show.

Shari's dedication to speaking out for animals is unrivaled. Last year, she participated in the International Day of Protest for elephants at the San Antonio Zoo and held her own anti-Ringling demonstration. She also demonstrated as a caged monkey outside NASA headquarters in Houston and then drove back to San Antonio to step into a human meat tray the next day. And that's only a sampling of her tireless efforts to save lives.

  • Ditch the Dog Graveyard!

    Written by PETA

It's a fact: the Westminster Dog Show aggravates the already dire animal overpopulation crisis and contributes to the deaths of homeless animals by encouraging people to buy purebred dogs from breeders and pet stores. That's why PETA's Grim Reaper showed up on Monday to usher in the dark event:

    Grim Reaper

This year, dedicated PETA supporters gathered outside the dog show to tell passersby that Madison Square Garden should be the final resting place for Westminster—and that keeping shelter dogs out of early graves is as easy as choosing to adopt from a worthy rescue group rather than buying from a breeder.

  • Helping Mexico Crack Down on Childhood Obesity

    cafeteria

Thanks to all the bad habits immigrating from north of the border, the childhood obesity epidemic in Mexico is growing quickly, and school lunches loaded with fattening meat and dairy products are largely to blame. Luckily, we know just how to help Mexican schools tackle this hefty issue: Meat-Free Mondays.

We sent a letter to Mexico's secretary of education, Alonso Lujambio Irazábal, asking that the government adopt Meat-Free Mondays in all public schools. Meat-eaters are nine times more likely to be obese than vegetarians are, and researchers have found that children as young as 3 years old can already begin to show signs of coronary heart disease. Vegan meals don't have any heart-clogging cholesterol and are some of the healthiest options for any cafeteria lunch line.

While we wait to hear back from Mexican officials, it's easy to get your local schools to adopt Meat-Free Mondays. To participate, schools simply need to commit to cutting out meat once a week. In return for their commitment, we'll honor any schools that sign up with a launch party, free materials, and a certificate.

Fit students, an exciting party, and delicious, healthy food—what more could a school ask for?

  • McD's, You're About to Get Served

    Written by PETA

Sometimes all you need is a sign—and with our new McCruelty Sign Generator, you can create one for McDonald's McCruelty. Design your own slogan and expose the painful slaughter behind the "billions and billions" of chickens served. Check out a few signs that the bloggers have already generated:

    Karin's flaming mad at McD's.

Shawna's sure the truth is "billions and billions killed."

I say cheap food isn't worth the price.

We can't wait to see your signs!

Oh, PETA Germany and your seal-loving supporters, you had me at "Hallo."

    Feeding the birds bread

It's not even Valentine's Day yet, but these dedicated demonstrators melted hearts (and snow) with their moving commitment to the tens of thousands of young Canadian harp seals who will soon be slaughtered for their skin. Show your love for the seals by wearing your heart on your sleeve this V-Day.
