Carrie Underwood's pretty pipes have made her one of the most influential artists in country music. But now she's piping up about something truly ugly: "ag-gag" bills. Currently being considered in several states, these unconstitutional bills would make it illegal for anyone to shoot video on factory farms in order to expose cruelty to animals, in essence making whistleblowers out to be criminals. That doesn't sit well with this vegan gal, who tweeted, "'@nytimes: Taping of Farm Cruelty Is Becoming the Crime nyti.ms/10HpjWn' What the what? Terrorism? Really? Dumbest. Idea. Ever." 

Elsewhere on Twitter, Amanda Seyfried joined multitudes of celebrities and supporters in defending PETA's euthanasia policy, Ireland Baldwin declared that she's going to go vegan (with a little help from PETA)—we sent her a vegan starter kit, Paul McCartney's "Glass Walls" video, and cookbooks to help her get started—and Leona Lewis vented about England's Grand National horse race:

We love our "Never Be Silent" campaign, and Waka Flocka Flame does, too: He never passes up an opportunity to speak up against the cruelty of fur. This time, in an interview with AOL's TheBoombox, Waka called fur "nasty as hell." We couldn't agree more.

Two and a Half Men's Jon Cryer didn't pass up the opportunity to brag about his two rescued dogs in his Us magazine "25 Things You Don't Know About Me" article. 

And over on NBC, Jimmy Fallon's Late Night audience simultaneously screamed with delight and "Awww"ed when the host talked about how überhunk Ryan Gosling has teamed up with PETA to ask for more humane treatment of cows on dairy farms.

Fashionistas around the globe were in for a treat when Tim Gunn released his third book, Tim Gunn's Fashion Bible: The Fascinating History of Everything in Your Closet. Animals were in for a treat, too, when Tim devoted nearly half his chapter "Coats and Jackets" to explaining "why fur belongs in the dustbin of history." He discussed how, during his tenure at Liz Claiborne, Inc., he agreed to meet with PETA Vice President Dan Mathews to discuss the possibility of the 46 Liz brands, which include Juicy Couture and Kate Spade, going fur-free. "[O]ver time," Tim remembered, "I became convinced that fur was unnecessary and even immoral." Liz Claiborne is completely fur-free, thanks to Tim, as is Project Runway. And if Tim has his way, the rest of the fashion industry won't be far behind.

While Tim strutted his animal-friendly stuff during the opening number at the Emmys, Carrie Ann Inaba was using the occasion to speak up for animals, too, tweeting at her Dancing With the Stars fans, "And even though it's a big day for all of us in Hollywood, let's not forget the animals… Help animals in need!!" She then posted a link to a video about why everyone should adopt, never buy. 

Elsewhere on Twitter, Wisconsin native Kristin Bauer was appalled by the University of Wisconsin–Madison's cruel cat laboratories, Kat Graham had a colorful way to describe being vegan, and Sam Simon cracked us up:

Candace Parker wasn't at the Emmys, but she still scooped up an award. The fur foe snagged the Player of the Month Award for the WNBA's Western Conference, and we're sure that animals would agree that it couldn't have gone to a nicer person.

Maybe Candace felt as "damn good" about her honor as Dax Shepherd said his vegan diet makes him feel.

The Boss must be feeling pretty good, too. Bruce Springsteen just turned 63, and he is still rocking, thanks to his primarily vegetarian diet and his passion for exercise.

Vegan Russell Simmons is always doing something rocking for animals. After an African safari in which he got to see animals in the wild, he spoke out against circuses and zoos, writing on his Global Grind website: "These magnificent animals I encountered on the safari aren't riding on bicycles or jumping through rings of fire like kids see them do at the horribly cruel circuses where they are routinely beaten and neglected. These great beasts were tending to their young, running free and just being left alone to live their lives."

Carrie Underwood might not have the same musical tastes as Russell, but the two are singing the same tune when it comes to animal rights. The country songbird posted a picture of a chipmunk she took to her veterinarian after her dog tried to eat the little animal. Dale, as she called the chipmunk, was fine and was happily released back into nature.

Model Joanna Krupa was a model of compassion when she rescued a lost dog she spotted during a hike. After a long chase, she was able to catch the dog, read his tags, and call his thankful guardians.

Al Roker made another dog grateful recently when he adopted a 10-week-old puppy named Pepper from an animal shelter. PETA helped the Roker family welcome their newest member with some fun toys and treats.

As the Discovery Channel wraps up its annual Shark Week, TOMS Shoes is making it Shark Year. The philanthropic footwear company created a pair of shark-silhouette–lined shoes, with proceeds going to protect these often misunderstood, abused animals.

If the vegan shoe fits, wear it. Former Miss World Rosanna Davison is trading her stilettos for running shoes, training for Ireland's Ironman Triathlon. She's also trading her vegetarian diet for a vegan one, and she tweeted, "I absolutely LOVE it & have never felt better! I recommend it to so many people."

Mischa Barton is raving about her vegan diet, too, noting that healthy food and regular exercise have given her the body she wants without having to count calories.

Another great way to get in shape while helping animals? Running with the PETA Pack. Jillian Michaels and Renee Olstead were among the animal-friendly celebs running to Twitter this week, with both gals encouraging everyone to start "packing":

There isn't a chick alive who doesn't love Ryan Gosling, from the ones he woos in theaters (guilty) to the ones he helps on factory farms. He was spotted saving the latter recently by eating vegan at Los Angeles' Flore Vegan Cuisine.

Since animals aren't normally allowed to go to concert venues, Jay Sean invited them into his living room. The rapper performed an online Stageit show from his home and donated all the proceeds to PETA's "Angels for Animals" program, which provides neglected, chained dogs with doghouses, toys, and lightweight tie-outs.

On a slightly larger screen, Bones is set to air another animal rights–themed show. Vegan star Emily Deschanel says she loves hearing from fans that the Bones episode on chicken farming made them stop eating chickens, and now the Fox thriller is tackling the exotic-animal smuggling trade. 

Fran Drescher is hopping on the vegan train as well, telling RadarOnline about some of her delicious recipes: "Lately, I have been eating vegan and gluten-free, so I have been making delicious kale soup and gluten-free pasta with sautéed arugula, garlic, olive oil and pesto. I also like my recipe for white bean hummus, as well as a good simple field and micro green salad with my special house dressing of olive oil, lemon, Dijon mustard and salt and pepper. I like to add raw veggies to it, like peas, corn, carrots, and zucchini."

James Cameron is growing vegan. The director just purchased 2,500 acres of rural land in New Zealand, and part of his property includes a former dairy farm. The government is requiring Cameron to continue to farm on part of the land, and the director, who grabbed a PETA Proggy Award for Avatar, said that since he and his family are striving for a more plant-based diet, they will likely grow crops. 

Cameron is no stranger to awards, and neither is our friend Kate del Castillo, who snapped up several of Telemundo's nominations for its inaugural Premios Tu Mundo Awards.

When former English soccer player Michael Owen ran his leg of the Olympic torch route, he got some help from a special guest—a dog up for adoption at a London animal shelter. The now-famous dog, named Rory, may not be homeless much longer.

Marathoner Michael Arnstein is also giving animals props at the Olympics—he fuels up only on vegan foods. 

Legendary basketball player John Salley will soon be flashing his charming smile all over Detroit. He is just one of the faces of the "Real Vegans" billboard campaign, by nonprofit VegMichigan, which aims to show people how easy and healthy vegan eating can be.

In fact, it's so easy and healthy that vegan eating is heading to the final frontier. NASA announced plans for an all-vegan menu for its astronauts who are setting out for a mission to Mars in 2030.

Bob Barker is sending three elephants on the journey of their lives. The longtime PETA friend is flying Iringa, Toka, and Thika from the Toronto Zoo to the Performing Animal Welfare Society sanctuary in California, where they will get to retire in spacious comfort.

It was a flight of a different sort that had America's Next Top Model alum Natasha Galkina speaking up for animals this week. After she read about PETA's campaign to get United Airlines to stop shipping monkeys to be tortured in laboratories, she tweeted her disgust at the airline, adding to the chorus of animal-friendly voices on Twitter:

What better way to spend your birthday than being with the people you love, eating great food, and doing something good for animals! That's exactly how Carey Hart celebrated—with wife Pink and a vegan meal at San Francisco eatery Prospect. 

Beantown is a great place to be vegan, too, as Tobey Maguire confirmed while munching on nondairy sweets at vegan ice cream shop FoMu. 

Vegetarian Colbie Caillat is getting bubbly over cruelty-free skincare. The singer is the new face of Lily.B, an all-natural product line.

And beauty Pamela Anderson networked for animals on Twitter this week (as she does every week) asking her followers to help end the cruelty of the Calgary Stampede.

Bucking ropes are used to enrage animals in rodeos. The rope is tightly cinched around the animals’ abdomens, which causes them to buck vigorously to try to rid themselves of the torment.

Mariah Carey is rumored to be considering joining American Idol and bringing the show a much-needed breath of fur-free air. Years ago, when one of Mariah's fans, who clearly had more money than taste, sent her a pair of fur coats, she promptly donated the offending skins to PETA.

Fur is running out of places to hide, as Russell Simmons banned it from his news and lifestyle website, GlobalGrind.

Gavin thanked the demonstrators for being there and mentioned that he and his fur-free wife, Gwen Stefani, are teaching their children to be kind to animals.

Chad Ochocinco (whose sizzling PETA anti-fur ad might be part of the reason why he's considered "the ultimate catch") tied the knot last weekend with fiancée Evelyn Lozada. So PETA sent the happy couple—what else?—an elegant faux-fur throw from Donna Salyers' Fabulous-Furs. 

Fur foe Lea Michele is being recognized for her animal activism. She earned a 2012 Do Something Award nomination for her work with PETA to shut down New York City's cruel horse-drawn carriage industry. Be sure to cast your vote here! 

PETA pals are snagging nominations right and left this week. Eva Mendes, Penélope Cruz, Benicio Del Toro, Roselyn Sanchez, Martin Sheen, and Constance Marie are all nominated for 2012 National Council of La Raza ALMA Awards. 

And vegetarian wrestler Austin Aries just claimed the title of TNA World Heavyweight Champion.

When 11-time Olympic medal winner Natalie Coughlin heads to London, she'll have some new reading material for the plane. PETA sent the swimmer vegan cookbooks and a vegetarian/vegan starter kit to help her maintain her nearly 100 percent vegetarian diet on the road.

NFL star Arian Foster is hopping on the vegan-athlete bandwagon. His inspiring tweets were some of the best in the Twitterverse this week:

Dominic Monaghan also took to Twitter to defend animals this week, calling the show Swamp People, which glorifies the killing of alligators, "death entertainment" that "continues to demonize reptiles as monsters and animals that are okay to torture and kill." He then vowed, "I'm gonna stop them."

Bob Barker is ready to put a stop to the Calgary Stampede. Everyone's favorite game show host said of the cruel 10-day rodeo festival, in which three horses have already died this year, "I would like very much to see them celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Calgary Stampede by saying that is enough animal cruelty. Let's wind it up and close it down."

When the Olsen twins—the "Trollsens," as PETA calls them—trotted out a fur backpack, there wasn't a chance that Running Russell Simmons star and animal advocate extraordinaire Simone Reyes was going to let it pass without a comment. She blasted the Trollsens on her blog, saying that they are "unfortunately using their vanity and the pursuit of making a blessed buck at the expense of innocent sentient beings." Russell Simmons jumped in to help, tweeting Simone's blog.

The Trollsens could take a cue from Banana Republic, which is launching a line inspired by the costumes in the upcoming film Anna Karenina that will be designed with elegant velvet, lace, and faux fur.

You won't catch Constance Marie wearing animals or gawking at them in the rodeo ring. She tweeted, "Please boycott rodeos! #Video shows #Reno rodeo horses being shocked to perform: bit.ly/LLoUot #CrueltyIsNotEntertainment."

Horror movie king Eli Roth knows that what's really horrific is when animals are abused for entertainment. He tweeted in defense of elephants: "Elephants need you! Urge the Atlanta City Council to pass a total bullhook ban! bit.ly/LFIivF #NeverBeSilent."

Paul McCartney has schooled many a musician in rock 'n' roll, and now he wants to school children in going vegetarian. He's encouraging schools to join his "Meat Free Mondays" campaign and offer students vegetarian options at lunch.

Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky and Switched at Birth actor Constance Marie joined Paul's chorus, jumping in with the host of other celebs tweeting for animals this week and promoting "Meat Free Mondays" and the veggie life.

The role of WNBA star Candace Parker in the L.A. Sparks' win last Wednesday earned her a Player of the Week nod, but she plays for animals every week by working with PETA to fight fur.

With another fur foe, Aimee Teegarden, cast in the starring role, you can bet that the CW Television Network's new show, The Selection, billed as "the next Hunger Games," will be decidedly fur-free.

Sharon Osbourne told Intermix to get fur out of the mix when she helped Fur Free Los Angeles with a demonstration outside the store. And the host of The Talk isn't all talk—she donated her old furs to PETA several years ago and has been an anti-fur advocate ever since.

Miranda Cosgrove might not be a real talk show host yet, but she does play one on TV. The iCarly star is iCompassionate to animals, telling US Weekly that she never lets anyone kill bugs (she takes them back outdoors) and that she threw a birthday party for her cat.

When Chaka Khan made like a feline, appearing on American Idol in a sultry catsuit, her slimmed-down physique had people wondering what her secret was. Now the legendary singer is spilling the beans (in addition to eating them): She went vegan for her health and dropped 60 pounds in the process.

And two of the sexiest stars alive are teaming up in the summer's sexiest movie, Magic Mike, but Channing Tatum and Olivia Munn are also teaming up to end Ringling's abuse of animals, joining thousands of people in asking the Atlanta City Council to pass a proposed bullhook ban:
