• Just When You Thought Amar'e Stoudemire Couldn't Get Hotter …

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

When Amar'e Stoudemire shot his anti-fur ad for PETA, he said, "I wouldn't want to see anything cruel happen to any animals just for fashion." Now the New York Knicks' star forward is showing that he doesn't want to see anything cruel happen to animals just for food, either. Amar'e says his new vegetarian diet is helping him stay healthy after he had to have a third surgery on his knees.

Amar'e didn't go vegetarian in time to make Shape's list of the 25 Sexiest Vegan and Vegetarian Celebrities, but there's always next year. The mag did give a shout-out to PETA's reigning Sexiest Male Vegetarian Celebrity, Woody Harrelson, as well as our buds Mickey Madden, Casey Affleck, Russell Brand, Steve-O, and Mac Danzig

Maybe Chicago's Rahm Emanuel will  make Shape's list next year. "America's Fittest Mayor" is endorsing Rip Esselstyn's vegan Engine 2 Diet

And these sexy stars made PETA's list of our favorite animal tweethearts:

Before you head out to see Justin Theroux's new film, Wanderlust, check out his PETA anti-chaining public service announcement. In the ad, Theroux appears alongside his beloved best friend, Pooma (who has since passed away), to urge people to allow their dogs to live indoors:

Elsewhere in Hollywood, Russell Brand is reportedly in puppy love. The Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity alum was spotted cuddling and petting rescued dogs at an adoption event in Beverly Hills.

Fellow adoption advocate Amanda Seyfried gushed about her rescued one-eyed cat, Fran, on Chelsea Lately, while Michael Clarke Duncan filled Jay Leno in on the delish vegetarian dishes that his girlfriend, Omarosa, has been cooking up for him.

What do vampires think about fur? That it sucks, of course. Before you "wha-wha" me, read this: Tweeting about his foundation's anti-fur petition, Ian Somerhalder wrote: "Fur sucks…Really. … Furs: Animals being killed so you can wear your new fox coat …." Is it just me, or does Ian Somerhalder smolder hotter every day?

  • Russell Brand & Kristen Wiig: Sexiest Vegetarians

    Written by PETA

I can't decide if I would rather see PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity winners shoot a "Veggie Love"  commercial together or do a comedy sketch about which one of them is hotter. Either one would be sure to be hilarious, since Kristen Wiig's and Russell Brand's comedy (and vegetarian pork) chops took them straight to the top of this year's competition.

As a previous Sexiest Vegetarian in the U.K. winner, Russell might be nearing Sexiest Vegetarian world domination. When Kelly Ripa recently asked him if he supplemented his diet with fish oil, Russell responded, "I'm vegetarian. I think it's cruel to squeeze oil out of a fish. Also, I don't like the idea of dry, oil-less fish swimming about."

Fans of Saturday Night Live and the hit movie Bridesmaids will be excited to hear of Kristen Wiig's coronation. Kristen, who credits her toned physique to running, yoga, and, of course, her healthy diet. We'll say "I do" to that.

    Congratulations to both winners!

  • Who's Your Favorite Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity Finalist?

    Written by PETA

What do Russell Brand, Kristen Wiig, Bill Clinton, Anne Hathaway, and Steve-O all have in common? They're among the 10 oh-so-fine finalists in our Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities contest! Also in the running are the luscious Leona Lewis, Mos Def (a true "rapper's delight"), Nat "she's all that" Portman, the wildly attractive Olivia Wilde, and the foxy Joaquin Phoenix.

As more and more famous folks realize that living la vida vegetarian is the best way to prevent cruelty to animals on factory farms, help the environment, and improve their health and physique, it gets harder each year to choose the winners. That's why we need you to help us pick a female and male winner from this latest crush-worthy crop of smokin' hot herbivores. Visit this page to vote for your faves via Facebook or Twitter. Voting ends June 24, 2011, at 5 p.m. EDT, so make your selections today!

  • PETA’s Feelin’ Hot, Hot, Hot

    Written by PETA

Could be because it’s almost the first day of summer. Nah, it’s definitely PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrities of 2011 contest. Voting has begun to help us narrow down the 100 male and female nominees to our top five in each group who make our little veggie-loving hearts skip a beet beat.

So, which hunk of Bocacake gets your vote? Bill Clinton or a Beatle? Joaquin’s sexy smile or Jared Leto and those baby blues?  Could it be a bi-coastal competition of funny man Russell Brand against easy-on-the-eyes Casey Affleck?

And which veggie vixen will walk away with the top prize? Will it be the battle of the A-team, Aimee and Anne? Or could it all come down to the Kristens – Wiig and Bell? Maybe the inventor of sexy, Pamela Anderson, will stage a coup?

Let us know who you think we should name the finalists! This year, for the first time, voting will take place on Twitter using the hash tag #sexyvegceleb, but you can also use the voting page. Let us know who you think we should pick by June 17 and stay tuned for the swoon-worthy finalists.

  • PETA Pals Heat Up Maxim Hot 100

    Written by PETA

Call it "animal magnetism," but we couldn't help but notice how many of the women on Maxim's Hot 100 list look awfully familiar. Olivia Munn edged out almost everyone, claiming the number two spot, but she's number one in our eyes for her defense of animals used in circuses and horses forced to pull carriages—just ask Hoda Kotb

Rubbing shoulders with Olivia on the list is Katy Perry at number three. Ms. Perry became Mrs. Sexiest Vegetarian in the UK when she married Russell Brand, and he might be rubbing off on the singer, who has said that she loves Tofurky. At number five, Mila Kunis is definitely hot, but fur, she says, is not.

Vegetarians liberally pepper the list, including Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, and reigning Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity Olivia Wilde

Lea Michele has more in common with Olivia Munn than just talent and beauty—the fur-free vegetarian star has tirelessly campaigned to end horse-drawn carriages too. Near to Lea on the list and in their animal-friendly values is Eva Mendes, who bared her skin for PETA to save the skins of animals killed for fur. And Audrina Patridge is an angel for animals, asking her fans always to adopt from an animal shelter in a PETA ad.

So many of the Hot 100 ladies are doing great things for animals that they were too numerous to mention here, but one thing is clear: Being compassionate makes one beautiful inside and out.

  • Hop, Don't Walk, to See 'Hop'

    Written by PETA

If we needed another reason to love the movie Hop, Universal Pictures just gave us a big one. Besides featuring all computer-generated animals and the voice of PETA U.K. Sexiest Vegetarian Russell Brand, Universal took a big step in helping the non-animated version of Hop's animal star. After we let the company know that animal shelters are inundated with animals after the latest movie-inspired fad has worn off, it  posted a message on the front page of the film's website discouraging people from rushing out to buy live versions of the animated rabbits and chicks featured in the movie.

With animal shelters bracing for an onslaught of bunnies abandoned just weeks after being stuffed into Easter baskets like plastic eggs, the message on Hop's website is a timely reminder that rabbits have special needs and require years of care. Unlike a certain recent lizard film that partnered with pet stores and encouraged people to buy animals like the ones they see in movies, Hop's producers are promoting family fun, not animal neglect.

Hop opens in theaters tomorrow. Can't wait 'til then? Catch a sneak peek on YouTube

  • Men Find Compassion Very Desirable

    Written by PETA

We just told you about the Fun, Fearless (Animal-Loving!) Males of 2011, and now the girls are getting their turn. AskMen released its 10th annual Top 99 Most Desirable Women list, and so many animal-friendly ladies were included that it can't be a coincidence—it's hot to be compassionate!

Several Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity alums ranked high on the list, including Natalie Portman, Kristen Bell, and reigning Sexiest Vegetarian Olivia Wilde

Some possible contenders for future Sexiest Vegetarian honors are among the Top 99 Most Desirable as well. Lovely Glee star Dianna Agron loves her veggies, and Anne Hathaway recently added fish to her "friends, not food" list, bidding adieu to sushi. Katy Perry has been singing the praises of eating Tofurky with vegetarian hubby Russell Brand, so it might not be long before his diet rubs off on her.

So many of the Top 99 ladies have done public service announcements for PETA that we wonder if AskMen searched our ads for its candidates. Vegan Lea Michele is a staunch defender of horses used in the horse-drawn carriage industry and of animals killed for their fur. Lea's abhorrence of fur is shared by Eva Mendes, who narrated an anti-fur video for PETA, and by Natalie Imbruglia, who starred in an anti-fur exposé for PETA Australia.

Rounding out our picks of delightful, desirable damsels is PETA pal Olivia Munn, who isn't shy about standing up for animals who are abused in circuses and puppy mills

  • Cosmo's Compassionate Cuties

Cosmopolitan magazine just released its list of "Fun, Fearless Males of 2011," and these boys aren't just kind to the eyes, they're kind to animals too.

The Vampire Diaries' smoldering Ian Somerhalder may play a "cold one" on TV, but he won't date a girl who doesn't have a warm heart for animals. The proud pop to three rescued cats says, "I don't care how hot a girl is—if she doesn't like animals, it would be a major, major problem."

And let's gossip for a minute about Penn Badgley's deal-breaker. The Gossip Girl hunk says he can't handle a girl who doesn't love dogs: "I find that if someone doesn't like animals, I am a little suspicious of them." Badgley definitely gets an Easy A from PETA.

PETA pal Chad Ochocinco danced his way onto the list because of his confidence and candor, both of which served him well when he took it all off for his anti-fur ad for PETA.

And the Fun, Fearless Male of the Year? Sexiest Vegetarian in the U.K. Russell Brand, who celebrated Christmas with his wife, Katy Perry, and a Tofurky
