As Lady Gaga heads to India to perform at the Formula One closing party, PETA India has an idea for her next statement outfit: a dress made of lettuce leaves.

Considering meat's monstrous impact on our health and the environment as well as the plight of animals who are dismembered for food while still conscious, PETA India asked Mother Monster to show her fans that even just reducing the amount of meat they eat (or wear) can help.

Will Lady Gaga step into the leaf dress and discover that she was born the herbivore way? We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, you can use these free recipes to cook up some meatless dishes that you'll go gaga for.

Whoa! Joey Lawrence rescued a dog from a local animal shelter while filming in Australia. He called his new family member "the most amazing little thing ever." Another shelter dog—a pit bull who was rescued from a trash chute—has inspired Newark Mayor Cory Booker to build a new state-of-the-art animal shelter. And to further fight cruelty to animals, the mayor's also a vegetarian.

The Rev. Al Sharpton has made the heavenly decision to cut meat almost completely out of his diet too. And Lady Gaga will have to cut meat out of her wardrobe when she performs for Bill Clinton at the Hollywood Bowl tomorrow. The former pres told David Letterman, "In deference to my diet, she'll be meatless that night."

Speaking of cruelty-free garb, The Veronicas sent flowers to Australian designer Rachel Gilbert to thank her for ditching fur.

And just check out what these compassionate celebs had to say to their Twitter followers:

    1. PETA's investigation of international animal dealer U.S. Global Exotics leads to the record-setting rescue of more than 26,000 animals.
    2. A PETA investigation at a Pennsylvania dairy farm reveals the filthy, miserable origins of Land O'Lakes butter.
    3. Worldwide outrage erupts after a girl is caught on video hurling puppies to their deaths
    4. Leaked photos from a company that supplies animal-restraint devices to laboratories show horrifically mutilated monkeys
    5. Lady Gaga's meat dress induces a collective gag.
    6. A laboratory investigated by PETA closes, and more than 200 animals are rescued.

    8. Thousands of chickens are spared from being ground up alive
    9. PETA's use of the pope's image on a spay/neuter leaflet touches off controversy.

  • 'Meaty' Halloween Idea: Vegans Go Gaga

    Written by PETA

Although it made countless compassionate fans wrinkle their noses (and made Eminem remark that it stank, and made Ellen DeGeneres back away), Lady Gaga's dress made from slabs of animal flesh is likely to be a popular Halloween costume this year. So PETA has an animal-friendly idea for vegan fans who want to dress up like Gaga without making people gag-a. How about a faux-meat frock, made from cotton instead of chopped steak?

Grab some fabric paints and plain white fabric—a couple of old, oversized T-shirts or even a sheet will serve nicely. Shape your dress with scissors, safety pins, and twine, and paint it with a rainbow of rotting flesh colors—red, brown, and a dab of purple, here and there. Of course, you'll want to leave some white visible to represent the marbled fat. (Gag!) We found instructions and this video tutorial online.

Or how about fashioning a phony-bologna bikini or a Tofurky tunic? The most important accessory is a visible label to indicate that no animals suffered to make the outfit. Print out this ready-made sign to show that your costume is cruelty-free:

With a Tim Gunn–style "make it work" attitude, it should be a cinch for you to create a killer Halloween costume that no animals had to die for.

Send us photos of your creation, and we might feature it in an upcoming blog post!

  • Eminem on Lady Gaga's Dress

NEW ORLEANS - OCTOBER 30: Eminem performs at the 2009 Voodoo Experience at City Park on October 30, 2009 in New Orleans, Louisiana. (Photo by Sean Gardner/Getty Images)

According to The Mirror, Eminem refused to sit next to Lady Gaga at MTV's Video Music Awards because her decomposing flesh dress stank. A source relates, "Marshall said he didn't want to be sat next to a pile of raw meat all night. He said it smelled pretty bad." Good call, Eminem. According to Dr. Shawki Ibrahim, the chief scientific advisor for Grow Green Industries, Gaga's flesh frock was a health hazard, since it could potentially spread E. coli bacteria, which lives in animals' intestinal tracts and *** and frequently contaminates dead animal flesh. Hmm … yet another good reason not to wear or eat animals! We are hoping Lady Gaga reconsiders.

According to The Smoking Gun Lady Gaga's caught in a new romance, and this one ain't so bad. The website got its hands on Gaga's latest concert rider, and the newest addition to it is a request for Yves vegan hot dogs. Maybe she’s trying to do right by Miss Piggy after wearing her boyfriend as a coat.

Some of my best friends r bitches... Its ALWAYS fake fur. I don't do the real ***. My rekords called ANIMAL!I dont do fur!duhh
    —Tweet from Ke$ha

I wake up every morning feeling like Ke$ha (clearly, the radio station my alarm is set to has flawless taste). And now that she's blasted recent reports that the fur coat she wore on Wendy Williams' talk show was real, via Twitter, she and fellow fur-shunner Gaga will always be my go-to ladies when it comes to synth-pop.

With this Billboard music chart-topper speaking up for animals who are skinned alive for the fur industry, I'd love to see Ke$ha bare it all in one of our anti-fur ads. A Ke$ha-Gaga double feature, anyone?

Gaga's fashion-driven stunts are a feast for the imagination. The avant-garde, synth-pop superstar left me reeling after her spectacularly maniacal, glass-shattering AMA performance and the light-up get-up she rocked during it. I've had her new album on repeat ever since, and with the news that the polar bear coat Lady Gaga sets fire to in her epically trippy video for "Bad Romance" is cruelty-free (I was a bit concerned!), her tracks will forever dominate my shuffle. Fabulously faux, the coat was made by fur-free fashion designer Benjamin Cho in 2004 and was revamped specially for Gaga's video.

Haven't seen the video? Scroll to minute 4:30.

From her Kermit-crazy anti-fur commentary to the humane hotness of her "Bad Romance" video, Gaga's kooky couture makes the chart-topper a style genius and a kind role model, which is why we've asked her to take it all off to educate people about animals killed on fur farms. We're still waiting for her response, but we've already got some awesome ideas. Post-apocalyptic disco dreamscape, anyone?

  • Lady Gaga Wears Coat Made of Kermits

Genius! In what looks like an amphibian homage to our "baby" coat, Lady Gaga has chosen a "ribbeting " way to tell the world that skins aren't in.

    Lady Gaga

Check out what she said about the newest addition to her wacky wardrobe:

"The Kermit the Frog outfit is by an incredible designer by the name of Jean[-Charles] de Castelbajac, and he does a lot of museum art fashion pieces. … I really loved this one in particular because I thought it was commentary on not wearing fur, 'cause I hate fur and I don't wear fur. We were all laughing in the house about how it looks like a pile of dead Kermits."
