• Carrot Gives New Meaning to 'Veg Out'

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

Chris P. Carrot got to reminisce about being a baby carrot when he visited with children at Memphis' Peabody Park yesterday.

The root enjoyed getting back to his roots and gave kids stickers and booklets encouraging them to eat their veggies, not their friends. A recent University of Minnesota study showed that when kids were shown pictures of vegetables, they ate more of them.

Helping kids eat healthy veggies in lieu of fatty meat? Piece of (carrot) cake.

  • Chris P. Carrot at the Tea Party

    PETA at Glenn Beck rally

In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic plea for nonviolent change, PETA's very own Chris P. Carrot and "cow" brought a message to those attending Glenn Beck's "I Have a Dream"–themed rally Saturday to think about compassion for animals by going vegan. The outpouring of high-fives (and cold beverages) from the crowd made it clear that our nonpartisan purveyors of peace were indeed the life of the (Tea) party.

    Oops—I meant to say "Parade."

OK, so maybe that pun made you wince, but the photos from Toronto's first annual Veggie Pride Parade will make you beam! PETA's own Chris P. Carrot, Lettuce Ladies, and "seal" joined hundreds of revelers who encouraged curious onlookers to help animals, their own health, and the planet by going vegan.

Even the veggie dogs were all smiles.

  • Vote for the Cutest PETA Picture

Calling all connoisseurs of cuteness: We need your help deciding which of the following pics from recent PETA demonstrations is the most aww-inspiring.

    Ellie the Elephant

Personally, I'm rooting for my boy Chris P. Carrot and his sweet pea Penelo, who recently attended the Veggie Pride Parade in New York City. Then again, I really ♥ the picture of the little dude in diapers sharing his disgust over the abuse of dairy cows at a Land O'Lakes supplier. But how can you not love Ellie the Elephant, who travels around the country educating elementary school kids about Ringling's abuse of baby elephants? Dang, I can't decide. You decide for me:

  • PETA Spices Up San Francisco Pride Parade

    Written by PETA

San Francisco's gay pride parade—touted as the world's largest—got a healthy infusion of vegetarian pride on Sunday. Working with local group Bay Area Vegetarians, PETA showed up in full force—accompanied by more than 100 men and women who were eager to educate the public about the benefits of a vegetarian diet.

Our float's Lettuce Ladies, Broccoli Boys, costumed animals, and sexy "strippers" caught everyone's eye.

Obviously, everyone who participated in the parade had tons of fun—but the icing on the (vegan) cake is that more than 500,000 people attended the event and learned that by cutting meat out of their diets, they could be healthier, reduce their carbon footprint, and save over 100 animals' lives per year.

Check out even more pictures of the parade here.

  • Independence Day for New Hampshire Hounds

Back in December, we spread some holiday cheer with news that a greyhound racetrack in Hinsdale, New Hampshire, had closed. Today we are celebrating Independence Day for all greyhounds used in racing in New Hampshire, because the last two dog tracks in the state have stopped racing greyhounds!

Greyhounds in the Granite State will now be spared routine racetrack horrors, which include long hours in cramped kennels, broken legs, heatstroke, and heart attacks, and being abandoned, starved, shot, or sold to laboratories when their racing days are through. Break out the bubbly and join us as we toast this victory.

  • Is Mayor Bloomberg a Veg Head?

    Bloomberg

    Magic 8-Ball says, "Outlook good."

According to a recent piece in the New York Post, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg paid a visit to Morton's Steakhouse in downtown Brooklyn, "but refrained from eating any meat and was 'strictly vegetarian.'"

Think Bloomberg has been talking to our friend Chris P. Carrot? Chris P. and Bloomberg are both politicians fighting to make our planet a little greener, so it only makes sense that they would run in the same circles—or at least run into each other occasionally. I know Chris P. hasn't won any elections (yet), but there's no denying that the guy's full of great advice on the green front. Bloomberg might be paying attention to Chris P. when the über-tuber says that going vegetarian is one of the best things that we can do for the environment.

  • Your Election Day Treat From PETA!

    Written by PETA

So off we go to the polls today (I went this morning; shazam!)—and we've got a lot of important decisions to make. Not all of us will get the opportunity to take a big step forward for animals, but we can all support the candidate whose platform includes going vegetarian to fight climate change, taxing meat for the environment and health, and eating our way to a smaller ecological footprint.

OK, OK, I wasn't going to spoiler you on this, but I guess I can tell you—it's Chris P. Carrot! He's fantastic. I love him. I almost uploaded my "Chris P. Carrot Girl" music video to YouTube, but I got embarrassed.

I am particularly fond of Chris P. Carrot with hummus. Oh! Yeah, I went there.

So, you may wonder, how exactly does one vote for Chris P. Carrot? Why, by going vegetarian, of course!

Oh, and in case you didn't realize, we're talking about an anthropomorphic vegetable—not any of those candidates you'll see on the voting slips. We're a nonprofit, kids; we don't do that. Similarly, don't bother leaving comments regarding "real" candidates or any political parties—we just have to delete them, and it's super tedious. Leave comments with your favorite Chris P. Carrot accompaniments instead, if you wish. (Baba ghanoush is really good.)

    Happy voting!

  • Hilarious Political Spoof Video

    Written by PETA

You might remember the wildly popular "Road to the Greenhouse" video from earlier this year. Well, it's back and better than ever as Broccoli Obama and Dijon McCain battle it out with a surprise third-party candidate extraordinaire … [spoiler alert]Chris P. Carrot!

Now, Carrot ran for election back in 2004 but got a lot of flack from haters when his "Eat Me" outburst made headlines, but now he's back—more mature, patriotic, and delicious than ever.

So go ahead this year and Rock the Vote … or, er, Vote or Die … er, um … Go Veg? No, that's not right. Just do yourself a favor and watch our super-funny video!

That's right, our new video is hilarious. We packed it with more jokes than you can fit in Carrot Top's trunks. We're so funny you probably missed half the jokes. To prove your wit, post a comment with how many puns and double entendres you counted in the video. Everyone who gets the right number will win a special prize.*

P.S. As a 501(c)(3) organization, PETA does not endorse or oppose any candidate for public office or any political party. That also means we won't allow any comments of that nature, so please save us the trouble and don't mention any candidates or political parties in your comments. Deleting them is tiresome. Ditto if you don't like our video. Keep it to yourself, because we know it's awesome.

*The special prize is to be determined. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post those too.
