• PETA Pals Heat Up 'Dancing With the Stars'

    Written by PETA

Get ready to tap your feet—the two-hour season premiere of Dancing With the Stars airs tonight on ABC, and as usual, PETA pals are strutting their animal-friendly stuff.

Just a week after she unveiled her "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ad, Elisabetta Canalis will make her Dancing debut, and she's rumored to be the early favorite. When asked if Elisabetta's PETA ad would help in the competition, her partner Val Chmerkovskiy said, "I don't know if it will help us, but I do hope it helps PETA. Before I found out that Elisabetta was involved with PETA, I was astounded how conscious she was about animal cruelty and how passionate she was about helping animals involved in any sort of mistreatment."

Fellow animal advocate Ricki Lake could be a serious contender too. She proved she has determination when she was arrested after storming Karl Lagerfeld's showroom to demand that the designer stop using fur. And spay-and-neuter advocate Metta World Peace (aka: "Ron Artest") might put his fancy footwork to good use off the court and pull off an upset.

Elisabetta, Ricki, and Metta World Peace are in good company. Previous DWTS rosters read like the guest list at a PETA fundraiser. Pamela Anderson, Cloris Leachman, Steve-O, Joanna Krupa, Kelly Osbourne, Lance Bass, Jennie Garth, Audrina Patridge, Belinda Carlisle, Holly Madison, Mario, Shanna Moakler, Karina Smirnoff, and even judge Carrie Ann Inaba all know that the most important steps you take are those that help animals.

Good luck, Elisabetta, Ricki, and Ron! We'll be rooting (and voting) for you.

  • Top Angels for Animals

    Written by PETA

In honor of "Be An Angel" Day, an international, nondenominational celebration of acts of kindness, we thought we'd share some of our favorite ads starring celebrity angels for animals—including Kimora Lee Simmons, Audrina Patridge, and David Boreanaz—who have earned their wings by spreading heavenly messages about protecting dogs, cats, and other animals.

To be an angel for animals today, consider giving bedding and treats to a lonely chained dog, playing with cats at an animal shelter, driving a needy animal to a spay/neuter appointment, or just giving your best friends some extra TLC.

Find more tips on being an angel for your animal friends in PETA's Caring for Animal Companions Guide.

  • PETA Pals Heat Up Maxim Hot 100

    Written by PETA

Call it "animal magnetism," but we couldn't help but notice how many of the women on Maxim's Hot 100 list look awfully familiar. Olivia Munn edged out almost everyone, claiming the number two spot, but she's number one in our eyes for her defense of animals used in circuses and horses forced to pull carriages—just ask Hoda Kotb

Rubbing shoulders with Olivia on the list is Katy Perry at number three. Ms. Perry became Mrs. Sexiest Vegetarian in the UK when she married Russell Brand, and he might be rubbing off on the singer, who has said that she loves Tofurky. At number five, Mila Kunis is definitely hot, but fur, she says, is not.

Vegetarians liberally pepper the list, including Anne Hathaway, Natalie Portman, and reigning Sexiest Vegetarian Celebrity Olivia Wilde

Lea Michele has more in common with Olivia Munn than just talent and beauty—the fur-free vegetarian star has tirelessly campaigned to end horse-drawn carriages too. Near to Lea on the list and in their animal-friendly values is Eva Mendes, who bared her skin for PETA to save the skins of animals killed for fur. And Audrina Patridge is an angel for animals, asking her fans always to adopt from an animal shelter in a PETA ad.

So many of the Hot 100 ladies are doing great things for animals that they were too numerous to mention here, but one thing is clear: Being compassionate makes one beautiful inside and out.

  • Dancing With the (Compassionate) Stars

    Written by PETA

There has never been a shortage of animal rights supporters on ABC's hit show Dancing With the Stars, and season 11 will be no exception. Vegetarian singer Michael Bolton is as easy on animals as he is on the ears, and funny lady Margaret Cho told the audience at PETA's Millennium Gala in Hollywood, "[Fur] is really ridiculous. It's outrageous. We're not living in igloos. We don't need to trade pelts anymore." As for what The Hills' Audrina Patridge thinks about buying animals from pet shops, we'll let her tell you herself:

  • Maxim's List Smolders With Sexy Animal Lovers

    Written by PETA

Maxim just released its "Hot 100" list, and apparently the editors understand the appeal of kindness toward animals. The list isn't just a "who's who" in hotness—it's a "who's who" in compassion too.

    Olivia Wilde

Number one on Maxim's list is Olivia Wilde, who always gets House fans' pulses racing. While she plays a naughty doctor, she still knows how to play nice with animals. You guessed it, Maxim's number one is vegan!

Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power, gets her audiences purring with her sultry voice and gorgeous looks, but we're happy as a kitty in catnip over the fact that she helped us promote spaying and neutering.

How much hotness can one woman dish up? Eva Mendes is the answer! Need more proof? Check out her sexy "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" ad. Eh, what'd I tell ya?

Stunning Charlize Theron is as compassionate as she is talented—just ask her dog.

Audrina Patridge's sunny smile could light up Las Vegas—but it's her heart (which has a gigantic soft spot for animals) that we're interested in.

Millions idolize blonde beauty (and Sexiest Vegetarian contest winner) Carrie Underwood, and we can't say we blame them.

Tricia Helfer's luminous looks and love for animals are otherworldly.

The evidence is in: There's no trace of a doubt that Roselyn Sanchez's steamy anti-fur ad is muy bonita.

The reason we're happy that ravishing Joanna Krupa graces magazines all over the newsstand? She refuses to compromise her values and never wears fur.

  • Audrina Patridge Unveils PETA Ad

    Written by PETA

Relationships on MTV's The Hills are unpredictable, to say the least. So, after having been on the show for five seasons, Audrina Patridge threw on a pair of angel wings and took her dog, Speedy Gonzalez, to pose in PETA's latest Angels for Animals ad. After all, a dog's love is absolute. They're never so fickle that they'd turn their back on you anytime some new guy walks into the room.

The ad was unveiled on a billboard in West Hollywood today, and Audrina was there to let people know that they should always adopt and never buy—because for every dog or cat bought from a breeder or pet shop, a shelter animal full of unconditional love will die.

Check out the event below and then enter to win autographed copies of seasons three and four of The Hills on DVD.
