• North Dakota Not Ready for Angela Simmons

    Written by Michelle Kretzer

With all due respect to the Piano Man, I don't really agree that the sinners have more fun than the saints. Most North Dakotans don't either—their state boasts the second-highest percentage of Christians in the nation

When PETA saw that statistic, we had an epiphany (if you'll pardon the pun) and decided that we should erect this billboard in North Dakota:

Angela Simmons isn't just paying lip service to the cause. Rev Run's daughter and the cofounder of Pastry shoes is a devout Christian who practices "thou shalt not kill" every time she sits down to eat. She credits the Bible and her uncle, vegan hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, with inspiring her cruelty-free diet.

One glance at Angela's figure might make a person think, "Have mercy!"—and that's exactly how she does it. By following Matthew 5:7, "Blessed are the merciful …," Angela keeps her vegetarian bod lean and also saves animals from abuse on factory farms and the horror of slaughterhouses.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to place our billboard in North Dakota, but you have to admit that it's pretty divine, huh?

Anyone can have a heavenly body and be angelic to animals simply by not eating meat. Of course, darling, only the meat-eaters die young. Well, they're certainly more likely to.

    Justin Bieber

Word on the street is that PETA pals Justin Bieber and Kellan Lutz will be appearing outside the Kodak Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard to promote animal adoption

    Bob Barker

It's been a while since Bob Barker appeared on The Price Is Right, but he still wants the show he made famous to maintain his animal-friendly ideals. When the show gave away a prize of cowhide boots and a trip to the infamous Calgary Stampede, Bob wrote and told The Price Is Right it was dead wrong to promote cruelty.

    Angela Simmons

Over on the opposite coast, Angela Simmons wrote to her NYC councilmember and asked him to support a ban on horse-drawn carriages that Olivia Munn, Lea Michele, Pamela Anderson, and many others have asked the city to pass.

    Georges Laraque

And Georges Laraque is asking the Toronto Maple Leafs to take a pass on fur after the team promoted a jacket trimmed with coyote fur. He may have played for the opposing Canadiens, but Georges thinks both sides can agree that wearing fur is ice cold.

    Ted Danson & Emily Osment

Ted Danson and Emily Osment are both showing that they are warm to animals. The distinguished actor and the burgeoning star both rave about their cruelty-free vegan eating.

Nothing says "Thanksgiving" like People's Sexiest Man Alive announcement. This year, the magazine named Bradley Cooper, whose good looks are matched by his good heart. He counts as his greatest loves his rescued mixed-breed dogs.

Speaking of actors and their rescued pups, Booboo Stewart showed up at the Breaking Dawn tent city event wearing PETA's "My Dog Is a Rescue" T-shirt. Booboo is one of several PETA pals in the film, so feel free to use that as an excuse to go watch sexy vampires canoodle on the big screen.

Thanksgiving and football go together like Tofurky and gravy, which is probably what Dallas Cowboys starting fullback Tony Fiammetta will be eating during the holiday. Fiammetta recently switched to a healthy vegan diet, which he says makes him feel better both on and off the field.

Would you invite Bill Clinton to be your Thanksgiving menu consultant? Now that he's vegan and reportedly makes his own cream of asparagus soup, Ellen DeGeneres sought out the former president to sample her new vegan restaurant's menu.

Celebs were a-buzz on Twitter this week, including Megan Park and Carrie Ann Inaba, tweeting about their delicious vegan meals:

ForksOverKnives that is true! Thank you for shedding the light!!! We just had a veggie "sausage" pasta! It was delish!!!! Feeling good!

Other animal-friendly updates came from Emmanuelle Vaugier and Lexie Tomchek, both of whom shared anti-fur messages. Lovely ladies Angela Simmons and Simone Reyes posted several updates about a PETA event they attended at Uncle Rush's house.

And what better way to wrap up a Thanksgiving-themed celeb update than with a few words from longtime vegetarian Sarah Silverman?

  • Angela Simmons Bares All in the Big Apple

    Written by PETA

It might be the genesis of a new era in animal rights: Wearing nothing but her long, flowing hair, Angela Simmons—devout Christian, founder of Pastry, and niece of longtime PETA supporter Russell Simmons—made the poignant revelation that eating meat is wholly unholy in a new ad for PETA.

"I want to open people's eyes up. … If this is where I can find my niche to come and help, I want to help," she explained.

Angela unveiled the ad to an enthusiastic crowd at Manhattan's Paramount Hotel last night, including her uncle Russell, whose vegan lifestyle inspired her own, Ami James, Simone Reyes, and other animal-loving VIPs, while enjoying music by Samantha Ronson (who wore a "no fur" button all night).

Angela believes that God's creatures deserve love and compassion, not abuse on factory farms and painful slaughter. "I really want people to know what happens to animals … I think it's important we take action," she said.

You can follow Angela's advice and take action today by ordering a free vegetarian/vegan starter kit. And we promise it's not a sin to covet the delicious recipes you'll find on our Living page.
