It's not often while the annual seal slaughter is going on that I get to write a headline like that, so this is great news. Compassionate Canadians are rejoicing over the prominent new vegan book displays at Chapters, the nation's largest bookstore chain.

It doesn't matter what culture or country, WE ARE ALL GUILTY OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS at one point in our lives. We became VEGANS/VEGETARIANS because somebody open our eyes to all these cruelties(e.g. PETA ). What we all need to do is to educate everybody regarding the effect of meat-eating, cruelty to animals and harming our environment. EDUCATE ONE PERSON AT A TIME and eventually it will spread like fires.

Use your brains. Civilized countries all over the world slaughter millions of cows, pigs and chickens. And you complain about a few thousand seals? Why, because they are cute? That's rediculous! The native canadians use the seal meat and skins to supplement their meagre incomes. How would you rather they kill them? Drown them in nets? Catch them with hooks? Slice their throats? Guess what...there is no painless way to kill an animal! Humans require protein for optimal bodily functions, and the most ready source is from meat and eggs, and derivations thereof. I'm sorry blood bothers you, but saying ALL canadians are barbaric is rediculous. I don't hunt seals and neither do 32 million other canadians. We have one of the only decent economies, and if you crash our economy, the canadian vegans will not be able to afford their specialty foods. So what you are saying is that you are all willing to reck millions of peoples lives for your own self satisfaction? How selfish.

I guess any good thing you can get Canada to do is worth reporting but the seal slaughter must stop. The images of those poor seals haunts me everyday.

Banning of killing seals needs to filter through to the mainstream consciousness of the average Canadian. All countries are gulty of crimes against animals. But the killing of seals in their environment is particularly sickeningly cruel. The more information is made available to them, the more likely the Prime Minister will abandon the hunt. It needs to come from the Canadians themselves cos they don't seem to care what the rest of the world is thinking.

The real pressing and central issue in Canada is its annual murder and clubbing to death of thousands of seals. This atrocity must be stopped. Why in God's Name does Prime Minister Harper allow this crude and barbaric murder of baby seals year after year? President Barack Obama has condemned the clubbing to death of seals and so should Prime Minister Harper. As a resident of New York City, I am just waiting to hear when there will be a mass protest of this atrocity. I'm willing to make a trip up to Canada to protest this depravity in lieu of a vacation because its that important....the seals have the same right to life that I have...I'm waiting..
