'Win It' Wednesday: Vegan Body Products

Who loves ya, baby? PETA does, and to prove it, we're giving a lucky winner some head-to-toe pampering with scrumptious cruelty-free body-care products. Included are Nature's Gate Papaya Body Wash with a fresh, fruity scent, Yes To Carrots "C Through the Night" Facial Moisturizer for glowing skin, and Aveda Control Force Hairspray to banish "bad hair days" for good.

All you have to do is tell us what you did to help animals this week. The person who we believe most deserves to kick back for a little R-and-R with some irresistibly yummy products will scoop them up!

The contest ends on February 23, 2011, and the winner will be chosen on February 25, 2011.

I am a volunteer at a shelter for dogs and help at the shelter every Saturday. I live in Sofia (Bulgaria's capital), there is a big problem with unhoused dogs, which contributes to most of the work in animal shelters and the need for more volunteers!

What did I do this week to help animals? I didn't eat any. I didn't contribute to the death or mistreatment of animals. I didn't buy any products that test on animals. I did however hug on my pets. I did buy products from companies sweet on animals. I did make my 1 year old parrot a super tasty birthday nut 'n veggie dinner. I did scratch my dogs belly for hours on end. I did leave veggie scraps for the forest critters to munch on in my backyard. I did refill all the wild bird feeders in my backyard with black oil sunflower seeds. I did leave a bowl of water out for the raccoons to use. But I do this every week. It's being a good steward to the world around me.

i became a vegetarian when i was six years old. I am now 13 years old. My mother is a vegetarian but wanted me to be healthy but I would refuse to eat meat. I have two dogs one that i got from an animal shelter which is an alaskan malamute called neesha and a greyhound who was about to be put down called daisy. I love hens and ducks and pigs and i have 3 dogs, 3 horses, 2 turtles, a lizard and a cat. I walk dog at animal shelters. I get greyhound puppies and make them better again but some die. People threw a one day old puppy into a group of dogs and i tried to save him but he died.

I went veg last year, and I still beat myself up for taking so long to realize it's the only way to truly feel good during a meal. This week, my boyfriend said that he would start trying to go vegetarian too! I showed him the PETA "Chew on this" segment. He broke into tears about halfway through and begged me to stop the video. We had a heart-to-heart, and he's only brought vegetarian food home ever since! Furthermore both my parents tried to give me a hard time for being vegetarian, but I didn't rise to the bait. Instead I calmly explained the slaughtering process in detail, and commented on how much more fulfilling my life is, now that I don't have that guilt of murder on my conscious any more. By being strong and calm, my parent's were forced to at least acknowledge I had a point! This week, I showed my mom how easy it is to use meat-substitutes by making a vegetarian shepherds pie. It was a total hit at dinner!

This week I actually have had cravings to eat meat. I have not had any meat in 4 years, and it was weird to experience that craving. I decided to go online and watch the video "meet your meat" again to remind myself why it is that I don't eat meat or any animal products. I will not eat something that was killed or harmed in any way to be put on my plate.

Well I am a vegan which helps many animals everyday! I am working to get more vegan options on the menu at my family restaurant. I live with 9 cats and a dog, all of which I have rescued from bad situations. I also have taken in two stray cats that live in my garage. I feed them daily. Whenever I get the chance I try to educate people on how they can help animals and stop cruelty.

I helped a rescued parrot find a new home this week! I will be volunteering this Saturday for the rabbit rescue to educate the public on keeping house rabbits and to adopt instead of shop! And I gave all our adopted house rabbits, parrots, and ducks lots of love

This year, I will take percent by percent of meat out of my diet until I am 100% meat free. I will also only buy egg from organic and free roam farms. I love animals and love to show how much I care, I live in WV so I have grown up with many animals. I have one fur coat and I will burn it. I never buy from cruelty makeup or hair brands. I have a rooster and two little cute hens. They are not even close to his size. They're so adorable!! I find it hard to stay away from chicken, but I try very very hard. I have a horse(a saddle bread, not abused at all), five dogs(not in the same house)and 3 chickens. I talked to a leading shoe store worker, telling her about how people who like animals don't wear fur... I don't think she understood. Also I refuse to eat at McCdonalds. NOt only because they abuse chickens, but their food sucks. I have some farmers and hunters in my family, but they never waste a life. They have slaughtered chickens, but in a very quick and effective way, cut its head off. No pain is endured.

I love animals more then people, I volunteered at Sequoia National Park in Bear Management for 5 months saving black bears and teaching visitors how to keep bears safe. It was an amazing time to see bears close up and save their lives. I also did children programs with bear puppets showing them how wonderful they are and to save them is very important. Everyone learned a lot that summer in a beautiful place with bears and cubs.
