You've probably never heard of elephant polo, and now that Guinness World Records has agreed to stop documenting records for wins in elephant polo matches, perhaps you never will again. The publishing giant made the move after learning from PETA U.K. that captive elephants forced to perform in such matches in India and Thailand are torn away from their families, beaten, and gouged with rods that have sharp metal tips.
In a letter to PETA U.K., Guinness Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday wrote, "This decision is in line with our policy not to accept or recognise any records based on the killing or harming of animals."
Among the other records the book will not recognize are those involving fox hunting and bullfighting. Anyone who still thinks that elephant polo or other cruel "sports" are acceptable should have the divots stomped out of them.

P.S. fox hunting and bullfighting is Murder and for Guinness that should be a no-brain er, all animal cruelty should be kept out!!
What a crazy "sport"!! People never cease to amaze me.
This is nothing new - they already had removed/stopped accepting records for things dangerous to humans. This is just another step.
It's good though that it does discourage people from using animals to get a brief blurb in Guinness. Hopefully soon they'll include gluttony (all kinds) in the banned category.
This is not news - they already have banned any type of record that harms humans (i.e. sword swallowing). It was only time before they banned animal ones that can cause harm to humans.
PETA, with this awesome Victory you have managed to push 'Wretched Elephant Polo' closer to extinction.
Now the rich & the famous animal abusers have been EXPOSED, I am sure they would soon quit endorsing the nonsense.
I just pray they have this much sense though.
