A sweet pit bull named Daisy froze to death in the frigid January temperatures in Holiday Island, Arkansas, when the chain she was attached to prevented her from reaching any shelter. The local humane society is requesting that cruelty charges be filed against Daisy's owner, and in an effort to prevent more tragedies like this one, PETA has sent information on safeguarding animals during winter weather to local media outlets.
Sadly, Daisy isn't the first dog to freeze to death this winter—and she likely won't be the last. Fur coats—especially short ones like pit bulls'—don't prevent dogs and other animals from suffering from frostbite and exposure. Animals can also become dehydrated when water sources freeze. Young, old, small, and short-haired dogs like pit bulls, beagles, Dobermans, and Rottweilers are especially at risk. Please—if you see any dog left outside without shelter, call the authorities right away. Your call could spare a dog a lingering, painful, lonely death like Daisy's.
Don't forget: January is "Unchain a Dog" Month. If you know of a chained dog in your neighborhood, you can help by providing him or her with straw bedding, fresh water, treats, and toys. If the dog is friendly and the owners are receptive, offer to take the dog for walks and "play dates."
You can also support PETA's work to provide dogs left outside in the cold with doghouses as well as PETA's work in behalf of pit bulls. And please remember how important it is to spay and neuter your animal companions and help others in your community on this life-saving issue, too.

NEVER FEED TREATS TO A DOG THAT ISN'T YOURS WITHOUT THE OWNERS PERMISSION!!!!!!! Many animals have allergies to certain types of dog food and treats. Just remember, you may think you are doing good by providing yummy treats. That dog could have severe allergies and they could be potentially fatal.
Keeping that in mind... There is nothing wrong with chaining a dog provided the dog can easily reach food, water and shelter. Chains are not bad if they are used in controlled, supervised circumstances by people who care. What happened to Daisy is tragic. It is not the chaining outside that killed her. It was the fact that her owners did not care enough to bring her back into the warmth of their home when she began to get cold.

I hate this......this is so sad and just a terrible trajedy. No animal should have to die like this, no animal should have to live like this! What is the purpose of owning a dog if you are going to chain in up for the majority of its life??????? The people that own this dog, ought to be taken outside in the same conditions that this poor dog lived with and see how long these stupid fucks last???? It makes me sick to hear about the death of a beautiful animal all because of the ignorance and lack of care by some non-deserving human. I hope the owners rot in hell!
SHAME ON THEM!!! SO, SO SAD!!!
SCUMBAGS..WE NEED TO GET ALOT TOUGHER ON THIS KIND OF INHUMANE NEGLECT. IT'S GOTTEN OUT OF HAND. THESE PEOPLE WILL ROT IN HELL BUT ALL DOGS GO TO HEAVEN!
OMG how cruel >:( I know I'm jut a kid and my thoughts don't count much, but that was really cruel.
LETS TEACH THIS WORLD HOW TO LOVE AND CARE FOR OUR ANIMALS... ONE DOG AT A TIME...
All other comments made real sense! If you do not have love or compassion in your heart and dont think anything for a living creature of god! then dont pretend you care, ignorant insensable absent minded.
And the useless owners and neighbours and families continue to sit on their fat backsides and use up the earth's resources while causing nothing but pain and misery around them. No one saw anything ? Bullshit.
Dogs should not be tied or chained ..this is a form of animal cruelty...
I hope PETA pursues the case on Daisy's cruel death in the hands of her owners and this punishable.
I am just now doubting Humane Societies of America...and any organization soliciting donations for animals' welfare...Are the donations really being allocated to neglected abused animals??? Kill Shelters are destroying puppies and dogs without giving ample time and chances for possible adoption. It is more of a slaughterhouse. Check out Pet Pardons in Facebook. Pulanski County Humane Society Eubanks Ky...That word Humane is not befitting. This shelter put down 11 puppies today and who knows how many more...I have read negative feedbacks on this shelter.
