Hey Susannah. If I were you, I'd allow my family to bring their "meat" dish, but, in return, you can give them a packet of information about the truth of the meat industry. You could even just print out a PETA factsheet. That way, it's an exchange of values: they bring their meat, then they leave with your perspective. And if they don't want to read about how turkeys are slaughtered, well then clearly they shouldn't be eating them! Good luck :)

P.S. A five year "tradition" at my house - I adopt a turkey at Farm Sanctuary every year, so "my" turkey gets to run around and have a good time on "turkey day".

I've been vegan for five years now and have navigated the rocky shoals of having the holidays with non-vegan relatives without coming to blows, so far. My question: they're going to be here at my house for Christmas. They won't eat "vegan food" (although they do eat vegan food all the time - duh...vegetables? Fruit? Grains?) and I won't eat animals or animal products. Do I tell them to bring their own "meat" if they just have to have it? It's going to be a buffet and that might work, even though I'd rather not have meat in my house... any opinions, PETA friends?

Er, imagine if everyone in the world went vegetarian, then they wouldn't breed millions of birds only to cut their wattles and combs off, to let them stand in crowded filthy conditions, and to scare the bejesus out of them by grabbing them by the legs, hoisting them upside down and slitting their throats. They'd stop breeding them, JBdoll! Nature is better at population control than our species which is taking over everything to the point there's almost no land left for any other kind of being. Try going veg, you might like it, I was a big meat eater but one day it just didn't make sense if I also believed I wasn't a cruel person, and so I stopped...cold turkey!

I absolutely loved my Tofurkey and gravy, vegan sweet potato casserole, and my vegan Maple Pumpkin Pie!! So proud to be VEGAN! People need to stop hating! :)

turkeys yes are not the smartest animals in the world they will drown them selfs in the rain becuse they look up and dont rember to put there heads back down so there naseal cavitys fill up with water and drown!
