When I was a kid, my parents would tuck me in at night, saying, "Don't let the bedbugs bite." But what had been a cute little saying has become a real nightmare for people facing a surge in bedbug populations. And like so many other problems, this one has a link to factory farming, as Allen Szalanski, an Arkansas University entomologist who is studying the current situation, explained. Szalanski, who was interviewed by the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch, is quoted in the following excerpt from the newspaper:
The poultry industry also has become a sort of mass-transit system for the insect, [Szalanski] said. He's found millions of the bugs living on breeder birds, which are sent across the country. Poultry facilities "are so bad that if you walk in there even with a (protective suit), you'll still get bedbugs on you," he said. "Poultry workers could be moving bedbugs from one place to another."

So if you want to have a "good night" and "sleep tight," it's time to kick the bucket and go vegan. After all, no one ever got bedbugs from broccoli or crabs from a carrot!

I side with Frank, my dear people. A bug is a bug. Aside from that, I think we should'nt argue about it. Let's get bandanas and choke each other to see who's right! :D Tehe, just kidding. <3
Nancy, I suggest you go read the USDA's site regarding qualifications for ALL foods.
You'd have to be growing your own food you pick yourself in order for your claim to be true.
Sadly, you are really misinformed.
very well said Nancy. Vegan is the only way to escape these disgusting occurrences.
Nancy, so what youre saying is that microscopic bugs dont count? A bug is a bug, big or small its still a bug. I've consumed them, you have consumed them, so please do not belittle ralph with your "more ethical than thou" attitude. Thank you.
Ralph, you're extremely uninformed. I'm a vegan and the only "bugs" I'm eating are microscopic ones. There are many bug parts in the genetically modified, pesticide ridden processed foods sold in stores. If that's what you want to eat, enjoy your bug parts.
Given that we eat an assortment of bug parts in any food we digest on a daily basis, this isn't surprising nor a bother to me.
In fact, we have dust mites in our beds every night too and "bug" type critters eating stuff around our eyelashes.
I'm sorry, this isn't a way to turn people vegetarian.
